About this project
Whether you’re mingling with dinner guests, cooking with family or just craving something fresh; making delicious ravioli by hand is easy, fun and relaxing. The best part is that everyone can get involved, all you need is the Fonde rolling pin and your countertop.
I'm an engineer, a foodie and a woodworker but above all I just love bringing people together. I believe very strongly in the importance of gathering around the table with people I love. Combining good food, good wine and good company is the most special moment I can achieve.
As an engineer I understand how good product design enhances our lives. Everything I design is sustainable, beautiful, durable and highly functional.
My vision for Repast Supply Co is to offer a complete line of high end cooking tools to the serious home chef. With your help, Fonde will be the first of many unique & sustainable product offerings from Repast Supply Co.
Backing this project will help me:
- Send product samples to major retailers and secure purchase orders.
- Launch a marketing campaign to build brand awareness.
- Purchase equipment for higher volume production.
- Prototype innovative designs to extend the product line.
The Fonde ravioli rolling pin is handcrafted in the USA from quality hardwoods. I believe so strongly in sustainability that I plant one hundred trees for every tree used in production of the Fonde rolling pin.
What the critics are saying:
"Really interesting concept! I wouldn't mind trying it out myself" Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine
"The Fonde Rolling Pin will help you win big on your next 100 “hey-let-me-cook-for-you” dates." www.mademan.com
"There are other ravioli rolling pins, but this one looks great, is sustainable and it works like a charm." - jebiga.com
What truly makes Fonde unique is the size and shape of ravioli it creates. Finished pocket dimensions are 2.25" by 2.25". After developing several prototypes I determined the perfect rolling pin dimensions for making mouth-watering ravioli. Deep pockets accommodate plenty of filling, the wide border allows for easy cutting and ensures the ravioli remain sealed.
Follow these steps to make perfect ravioli:
Combine flour, eggs, water, salt and olive oil in a large mixing bowl or right on the counter:
Knead for five minutes:
Roll the dough into two thin sheets:
Sandwich the filling, leaving some extra room for spill-over:
Roll Fonde across the top applying downward force:
Cut your ravioli:
Boil for 2-3 minutes:
I am very happy to offer these rewards for backers of Fonde: (Pledge values include shipping within the US).
And most importantly, THANK YOU!!!
Risks and challenges
With Fonde being a craft made product, the biggest risk is that demand may outpace supply. In the event that this happens, my manufacturer and I have a plan in place to quickly double or even triple output volume. This will require purchasing additional woodworking equipment and hiring 1-2 skilled woodworkers, neither of which is difficult but will extend the delivery time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
After each use you'll want to wipe down with a damp cloth, immediately followed by a dry one. Never put your Fonde under running water or in the dishwasher. Each Fonde comes pre-oiled with food-safe mineral oil. I recommend reapplying mineral oil a few times per year to maintain the rich shine.
Finished pockets will be 2.25" by 2.25" and hold between 1 and 2 tbsp of filling, depending on your preference. Fully cooked ravioli will expand in size by ~10%.
Absolutely! Visit my recipe page located here for a detailed explanation with pictures.
Yes. I can make about 150 rolling pins out of one tree, so for every 150 pins I make, a $100 donation is made to the Arbor Day Foundation. The ADF has affiliates and volunteers across the country who replant trees in the areas that need them most. A $1 donation to the Arbor Day Foundation plants 1 tree.
YES! This was going to be a surprise but all backers will receive a half dozen or so of my favorite ravioli filling recipes. For now, check out the latest from my friend Kenan @Kitchen1204: http://kitchen1204.com/summer/whole-grain-peach-rosemary-ravioli-parmesan/
This depends on a few things: The 6" Fonde has an overall width of 7.5" and if you use a Kitchen-Aid or other brand of pasta roller, you'll only have a 6" wide sheet of pasta so you'll only get 2 ravioli per row after accounting for some space along the edges for spillage. In my experience the width of pasta sheet from these machines varies and is rarely a perfect 6" wide.
You can also take a normal rolling pin to your sheet of pasta after it comes out of the machine and just flatten it out a litte bit more, until it reaches 8" wide and you'll have no problem getting 3 ravioli per row.
Either way you're going to have amazingly delicious ravioli!
