A hundred games in one? Really? Yes, really. From co-op missions that lead players across Rakasa on quests into increasingly dangerous lands, to PVP battles that require players to use a collection of revived monsters as pawns to fight each other (as opposed to relying on upgraded equipment) --it's all up to you based the adventures you want to craft. The gaming possibilities are endless!

We were going to post this video at the end, but check it out now, and then go on to look at the project.  We provide a standard game scenario, but watch how this game can transform!

We want to thank everyone who has been with us since the start of our project and those who will join in the next several days. Your comments, suggestions, and questions have helped us understand how to better tailor our project for our supporters.

To show our appreciation to you early bird backers, we will included 5 Essence Chest cards in each game ordered before Wednesday, January 15th. This day marks the start of our 30 day countdown till our project must fund. Please mention our project with those in your social networks! We are truly grateful for the support we have received and look forward to the next 35 days!

Every copy of Legends for Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory will include a copy of the Treasures of the Penduku. This collection of treasure items will be customized by our highest backers. Players can use these unique items to further customize their adventures. For more details, see the bottom of our project page.

$50,000 [locked] : Every copy of the Legends for Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory will include a copy of the Alchemist Expansion.

The Alchemist Expansion is a 55 card expansion on the potion system that involves mixing potion items and/or potions from across the lands. Through the combining of ingredients found across Rakasa, players can brew ten different hybrid potions not included in The Hunt for Glory.

If you're in need of international shipping, just add $35 to your pledge and you are good go! This includes the $300 tier, though we weren’t able to adjust the shipping description (We can’t change the text on a reward that is already backed).

"We took their land. They will come. We will need warriors. Nobody can know."

There once was a people who found themselves banished from their homelands to a place they called The Void. Among the banished were the legendary "Void Splitters" who could split light from darkness in the void and create a habitable realm. They split the void and gave birth to the realm they named Rakasa, a place of light and life. But when the void is split, darkness and death must come as well. Light orbs and their connecting barriers were designed to shut out the world of darkness surrounding them. Never exploring or even questioning what lay beyond the many layers of barriers encompassing Rakasa, like the rings of a tree trunk, the people lived hundreds of years in peace.

There were, however, a few who knew what they truly did to create Rakasa and the wars that would come as a result. And so, a people living in peace, were guided to embrace hunting and war.

(For more story, check out our website: http://www.trivatch.com/legends-of-rakasa.html)

Our first game takes place 300 years after the creation of the realm known as Rakasa. Players take the roles of newly pronounced Hunter-Warriors, the most elite and holy of all callings in Rakasa. As Hunter-Warriors, players prove their might and worthiness during the Life Crossing Festival by hunting and collecting the most valuable sets of parts carved from the legendary Mahakasai.

Winning these parts is no easy feat for players as they will begin their hunt for glory with nothing but a handful of ingredients from the village market and a set of bone gear, the weakest and most basic of equipment (often found discarded along the roads of Rakasa).

Players roam the land, lay traps, hunt and battle monsters, gather ingredients and spoils, forge new equipment, brew potions, trade in the market for tools and other items, grow in power, and devise plans for hunting the Mahakasai to claim glory above all other Hunter-Warriors.

PLAYER CAPACITY: SOLO, COMPETITIVE, CO-OP (GUILDS).

The Hunt for Glory can be played with a single player and up to, potentially, an infinite amount of players. A unique aspect of The Legends of Rakasa series is that there is no player cap. The Starter Pack and the three Land Expansions facilitates up to 8 players. If more players are needed simply add in a second copy of any land and its accompanying road to add 2 more players. If you want to add a significantly greater amount of players, more villages can be added in as well.

In regards to player numbers, you may be wondering "how long am I going to be waiting to take my turn with all these other Hunters at the table?" The answer? No longer than in a game of four players. Yes, in the Rakasian gaming system, player turns do not need to be completed as one large group. Players may break off into smaller groups or "guilds" and take their turns in a "guild turn cycle." Player progression is not effected by other players' turns. Player interactions (i.e. trading, team battling, dueling) can happen at any point of the game regardless of turn order or guild affiliation as long as interacting players are within the same land, road, or village tile. With groups broken into guilds, players can adjust winning conditions for a guild victories as opposed to individual victories. This aspect gives Legends of Rakasa a MMORPG feel and has been play tested thoroughly and proven in groups of up to 16 players. Players can also join, quit, and rejoin mid game without interrupting game flow.

THE BOARD.

The Hunt for Glory is played on a board made up of tiles that consist of four different lands, a village, and roads. The standard board setup positions the village in the center, with roads placed adjacent to the village, and lands placed connecting the roads in a 3x3 fashion. Each road and land tile has respective decks of monsters and items placed on it.

Once players are comfortable with game play, these tiles and respective decks can be organized in any fashion to create a more challenging and unique game. Players may choose to even leave some tiles face down for an exploration type game. Multiple games can be used together to create larger board types. Though the standard board consist of four lands and four roads, the game can also be played in full with only a single land.

In the following video, we go through different ways players could setup their boards. We also explain basic player turns.

THE MONSTERS.

The Hunt for Glory introduces 56 unique monsters and the ever changing Mahakasai. Each monster has different speed, power, and defense stats resulting in different challenges for all players based on their choice battling styles. Players face off with individual monsters and sometimes even with groups of monsters. Defeated monsters have several uses. First, and most important, are their spoils. The combinations of these spoils can be used to upgrade player equipment. Monster carcasses can also be used to lure other monsters or can be traded in the market for other tools and items.

Level 5 Monsters
Level 5 Monsters

Of the monsters in Rakasa, the Mahakasai are the most dangerous and are extremely unpredictable. When a Mahakasa spawns, it's formed with random parts and varying quantities of those parts. Mahakasa parts have their own unique individual stats and also a unique full body buff that adds to the overall strength of the monster. Players defeat a Mahakasa by destroying it's individual parts. When first formed, the total buffs from all of the parts may occasionally make the monster nearly invincible. But because each part has a full body buff, as parts are cut off and their buffs are removed, the Mahakasa will become progressively easier. Therefore, deciding when, where, and how to strike a stronger Mahakasa is key.

To learn more about monsters, take the EHA (Essence Harmony Assessment) on our website and see which monster you are in closest harmony with! http://www.trivatch.com/qr-monster.html

EQUIPMENT.
A full set of equipment consists of a headgear, armor, foot gear, and a weapon. All players begin the game with level one bone equipment. These bone equipment pieces can be found one the roads of Rakasa throughout the game. Though weakest, bone equipment is the starting point of all equipment. Players may develop as many pieces of unique equipment as they see fit for their strategy. The first step though, is always to find a piece of bone equipment and add to it.

Level 1 Bone Equipment
Level 1 Bone Equipment

There are three classes of weapons (heavy, light, ranged), each with two types of weapons (Axe/Hammer, Spear/Sword, Long Bow/Crossbow). Each of the three classes of weapons has an ability. Heavy weapons allow players to preform the Berserk attack. Light weapons allow a player to Guard. Ranged weapons can be used to fire bone ammo in the Quick Shot attack.

Players can upgrade their level one bone equipment into one of the 160 different possible equipments pieces (40 per land). To be sufficiently prepared to battle the Mahakasa, most players will need to craft a full set of level five equipment.  Equipment isn't strengthened so much by the physical properties of the monster parts, but more by the Essence (life force) intertwined in the parts.

 BATTLING AND UPGRADING.
In the following video, we step through three battles. Two basic battles and one team battle are walked through. After looking at battles, we do some equipment upgrading and discuss the rewards of battle.

 POTIONS.

Players will come across different potion items in each land. These potion items can be combined with items from the village market and the roads to create a variety of potions that differ in effects.

In the following video we look at trading in the market and using potion items to brew potions.

STARTER AND EXPANSIONS.

The Legends of Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory is split into one starter and three expansions. Our primary goal is to create a vast world full of life and opportunities to explore, discover, hunt, craft, and battle. Because the village alone contains 70 cards and each land and connecting road together contain 180, we wanted interested players to have the option of buying a starter game, and then add on lands as desired. The game has been designed around the option for this type of expansion from a single land game. Each addition adds more unique monsters, equipment, and potions for players to play with. Each addition also adds room for two more players.

Because of popular demand, reviewer comments, and fan requests, rewards on Kickstarter will start at the full Legends of Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory set. This includes the Forest Starter and all three land expansions (Ocean, Mountain, and Desert). Also included in this reward and not noted below is the Treasures of the Penduku set.

Backers pledging $300, $400, or $500 will be allowed to customized 1, 2, or 3 cards of the Treasures of the Penduku set. We will work with backers to ensure customized cards fit within the theme, look, and economy of Rakasa. This set will come with every copy of the Legends of Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory ordered on Kickstarter (one or two sets depending on your pledge of $95 and up). The Treasures of the Penduku set will also be available for purchase after our project funds. Backers will receive specific rules and instructions after the project funds. For now, here are some guidelines to think about.

What customizing will backers get to do? For each card they are allowed to customize, backers will be able to:
Suggest a Treasure Item - This can be something as simple and common as a ring or trinket of some sort, or even as unique as "Green Blankie." ("Green Blankie" is the name of David Vatcher's baby blanket he now occasionally wears as a scarf. Truly, a special treasure.)

Define it's Uses - Ever wished a game had "X"? Well, this is your chance to add it into the world of Rakasa. "Green Blankie" could be used to recharge Essence (Health/Magic), grant invisibility in the Forest, instill fear by disguising a player as the green blob of Rakasa, or whatever else it is you wish your item to do. We will be very accepting of defined uses of items.

Name the Item - Backers can give their item(s) a unique name. "Ring of Glory" or "Green Blankie." The name portion of our cards is limited to roughly 15 characters. As will all text, names will be reviewed and approved or given suggestions. Our game is for ages 12 and up and materials need to stay friendly to that age range. Players may also wish to add Rakasian flare to their names. We can help with these translations. (Rakasian is a Indonesian/English mix. David speaks both.)

Set the Item's Origin - Items are either located in the Market, Road, Forest, Ocean, Desert, or Mountain. Backers can take their pick.

Item Quote - A quote box of varying size will be available for a quote. This box size is dependent on the amount of space used for defined use of the card. The quote box is your opportunity to tell a story or claim your item. "Many suspect David the Wise crafted Green Blankie using dyes extracted from Batang Mushrooms." We will review quotes and give suggestions to help keep language in theme.

Image Suggestions - All artwork will be done by our artist. Backers can, however, provide descriptions or images to guide the card art creation.

For backers customizing two or more cards (or multiple backers customizing one but working together), you may wish to customize cards that work together or against each other.

What customizing will backers not get to do? Backers will not be able to:
Set Pricing of Cards -
Too maintain the balanced economy in Rakasa, we will set the value of items. We will take suggestions, especially those that have unique reasoning. For example, one item that did not make the final cut of the original game is "Fools Gold." The item had no value and no independent use. But when stealing is allowed in a game, Fools Gold could be used to trick up thieves.

Categorizing: Categorizing is related to value and items will be categorized as all other items in Rakasa have been.

Artwork: We will not accept custom artwork as we are trying to maintain a uniform look. We will take suggestions and ideas and craft images as close to these provided materials as we can and remain in theme.

TriVatch consists of three brothers Michael, Steven, & David Vatcher. We all grew up in Fresno, California playing video and board games with family and friends. Michael is an elementary school Chinese teacher in Memphis Tennessee. David also works in education but on the business side in HR. David, Steven, and Michael are all college students working towards different degrees at different levels.

Aside from gaming, the Vatcher Boys have many other interests. Michael has always had a passion for story telling, art, and puzzles and is the Legends of Rakasa artist. Steven has always had a passion for music and organizing gaming tournaments and is the Legends of Rakasa music and video composer and director. David has always had a love for numbers, systems, and marketing. His art is building the TriVatch company. All three brothers have spent a lot of time balancing and organizing game components.

(David, Michael, and Steven)
(David, Michael, and Steven)

The birth of Rakasa came at the start of Michael's teaching career across the country. The majority of design work was done via Skype. Webcam rules were also designed and will be provided for those interested in playing with others around the world. We play tested in our separate communities and on a larger scale at the Anime Expo in LA. During the Anime Expo in LA, we had two sets of Rakasa being played by attendees from 10am till 2am each day we were there.

Though our number one goal is to make games that are fun and exciting for people of all backgrounds to play, we spend hours examining fantasy and Sci-fi novels, movies, and video games in search for ways to capture favored elements in each and discuss ways to bring those elements to our board games (player progression from game to game, MMO play, choices and player autonomy, magic and power systems designed with familiar and popular systems in mind, co-op options, guild formations, etc). This approach has been extremely successful and well welcomed by those who have play tested The Hunt for Glory.

We love working with people. Using Kickstarter to launch our project gives us an opportunity to network, communicate, and collaborate with fans in ways we couldn't funding our project through other means.

It's our intent to take game design from a hobby to a career. Our dream is to create games that take people on epic adventures with their friends and family. We are also preparing to start up a line of educational games centered on adventure and exploration. Your support helps us reach our dreams, and we dream of crafting quality games for you! With your support, we will be able to put into print enough copies of The Hunt for Glory to get our larger operations running.

We want to thank the wives involved who have put up with their childlike husbands, chasing a crazy dream, playing card games in their free time across the country via phone or Skype. Both David and Michael have full-time day jobs, are full-time students at night, and have babies at home. Both of their families have sacrificed a lot to make the creation of Rakasa possible.

A special thanks to our dear friend Harrison Paul. Though equally busy and distant from our headquarters, Harrison has managed to be a part of every edition of play testing. As an extremely talented author and gamer, his critiques of our game have been invaluable. Please check out Harrison Paul and download a free copy of the first book in his series Kaybree the Angel Killer.

We would also like to thank all of those who have spent their precious time play testing the prototypes and beta version of the game. A special thanks to all of our friends from the Anime Expo who have supported Legends of Rakasa and have been waiting so patiently for our Kickerstart launch.

Lastly, thank you for watching our video, reading about our project, and backing the Legends of Rakasa: The Hunt for Glory. We will always be creating, but our fans bring our creations to full life. We are grateful for this opportunity to create with you!

Risks and challenges

Our risks and challenges at this point are all printing related. All other processes are completed and awaiting funding. However, we are confident that enough time has been provided that if a problem surfaces we will be able to find a solution and deliver rewards on schedule. If we hit major misprints though, we would need only a few weeks to reprint and ship.
