A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Dominoes is a family of games played with rectangular "domino" tiles. We've all seen those amazing displays of a multitude of dominoes toppling over one by one.
At the beginning of this project, we decided to assign a unique ability to our lamps to make them interact like dominoes. So we defined a feature named "Domi" and finally we made it. That's exactly why the lamp is called DomiLamp.
With "Domi" enabled, when two or more lamps are within a certain distance(about 13ft/4m), a light change of one lamp could be easily transmitted to others around it. Then, those lamps which received the change would adjust their light color and intensity to match the first lamp's. This effect would then spread from those lamps to outer lamps if existed.
The amazing thing is that "Domi" could work with any number of DomiLamps, without any configurations.

The rotary dimmer is a classic design in industry. It provides an excellent user experience. We learned from it and made DomiLamp's shade as a bigger dimmer. When you need to change the light, all you need to do is to rotate. Additionally, we inventively added vibration feedback. Thus you could get reminded when you reach the maximum level of the light intensity.
Why didn't we provide the full-color support?
As shown above, DomiLamps don't have the full-color support, which is different from other smart lamps in the market. Intellisn insists to give consumers the simplest experience. Think about it, how often will you make the light turn red, green or blue for the room? 90% of our respondents in the design phase said they would never use it at all. So, we did the subtraction.
Some special algorithms are applied to ensure that every transition between the continuous or discontinuous steps will keep smooth.
Candle light imitates the real candle fire which is not stable and flickering all the time. This is very suitable for setting up your romantic atmosphere.
Cocktail. We borrowed this word from the pub. It is popular because of its unique look by mixing two or more ingredients without breaking the border of each layer. For our Cocktail - 1 light, we mix the orange light and the warm white light. Mysterious and peaceful.
Warm light gives you the soft and warm feeling like the sunshine of spring morning. It could be treated as the main color of all your lights. It shall exist all over the house, decorating every room as a real warm place you would love to stay.
Being different from Cocktail - 1, Cocktail - 2 replaces the candle orange light with the bright white light. It gives you an intermediate color between the warm and cool white lights. This is for the time when you want a brighter lighting effect but don't want to see a pure white light around.
As told in the name, Cool light provides you with a bright and cold feeling. It is suitable for readings and simple lighting. In this mode, the DomiLamp glows like a traditional fluorescent lamp illuminating the place you want to light up.
There are many integrated high-power LED chips in the market. We could reduce the LED amount to significantly save the cost by using these chips if we only cared about the brightness. But in this case, the light would be very concentrated. When it goes through the lampshade and arrives in our eyes, we would feel it too glaring. So, here comes our solution:
Make light glow from more angles with a leading industrial design;
Use more LED chips to increase the glowing area for each angle;
Add optical diffusing materials during the process of lampshade injection.
It was a big challenge for us to find a solution of heat sinking without taking up too much space. After many attempts, we came out with this innovative design as shown below: an aluminum pillar with integrated heat sink inside. The pillar is made of a complete metallic material to ensure effective thermal conductivity. The heat is then dissipated through the holes drilled on the lampshade cap.
Why is heat sinking important for LEDs?
LEDs are also often considered "cool" because they generate light through a mechanism other than thermal excitation of a substance, such as the tungsten filament in an incandescent lamp. Although LED lighting systems do not produce significant amounts of radiated heat, LEDs still generate heat within the junction, which must be dissipated by convection and conduction. Extracting heat from the lamp using heat sinks and by operating LEDs in lower ambient temperatures enables higher light output and longer life of the device.

Risks and challenges
The project was started in early 2017. Over the past 8 months, we've been through a lot of difficulties, including design conflicts, technical issues and the worst shortage of development funds. Fortunately, we solved all those problems and will eventually have our first generation of DomiLamp released this fall.
We are ready to start the mass production as soon as the project is successfully funded. Most of the engineering details are complete except technical optimization for better user experience. We've being ready to encounter any challenges and turn them into solutions & innovation.
