About

The channel will be home to various educational videos, based on or around the current curriculum. The starting project will be GCSE revision videos of English set texts and advice for passing exams.

The project was an idea that I have been thinking about for a while and will be brought to life by myself and Chris Seery - a teacher training graduate and fellow performer. English was one of my favourite classes at school, along with drama, and as I travelled through my university degree, I became increasingly interested with cross-curriculum learning and the internet as a learning medium. The idea of the videos would be as an add-on to teaching and revision, rather than trying to replace them. In a similar way to BBC Bitesize but in a more modern, accessible and engaging format.

The ‘Episodes’ would be broken down into small chunks of revision information, covering topics such as ‘Plot’, ‘Characters’ ‘Themes’ ‘Symbolism’ ‘Language techniques’ and ‘Exam questions’. Some students will take in and retain information more efficiently through video than through re-reading notes of revision texts - this will cater for those students. The videos will be similar in style to ‘Crash Course’ and ‘SciShow’ but focusing specifically on English Curriculum as opposed to literature in general. The unique selling points will be the high production quality and engaging content, endeavouring to showcase information in a new way. Throughout the production, I would like to have a go-to group of advisors from the teaching profession, and teenagers of the target demographic to discuss various ideas and to review pilots. Overseeing the technical side, including filming and post production will be Steven Wright of Crawford & John LTD. We aim to launch the videos in the New Year and post them on a weekly basis.

The money will be used for the production and promotion of the videos.

How are you qualified to do this?

Chris is a qualified secondary English teacher and Codie has her PTLLS award and has been a GCSE English tutor for several years. Both are experienced actors and Codie has a successful Youtube channel. (www.youtube.com/codiekinzzz) Steven is the Managing Director of Crawford & John, a creative company and has many years of video production and editing. They make a dynamic team, being good friends, and are exciting to launch this project!

Risks and challenges

I guess with us all working full time, there is a risk that we will find it hard to find the time/motivation, however I think the Kickstarter will combat that. This will make us accountable to a whole group of people so it will push us to want to get the project done.

We have wanted to do this for so long and thought about it so thoroughly; we are completely dedicated to this.
