Reddit AMA, FAQ, Add-ons and System requirements

Posted by Rosebud Games (Creator)

Thank you dear friends!

Can’t thank you enough wonderful people for joining us during the first days of the campaign. We got lots of questions, suggestions and tips that will help to keep us focused for this fantastic trip, and if anyone is wondering, yes we are really exhausted from working 80 hours a week!

Reddit AMA

For those of you interested in discussing anything with us, we will be doing an AMA over at tomorrow Monday from noon PDT / 3pm EDT / 9pm CEST, regarding Death in Candlewood, the Kickstarter, and anything else! Hope to see you there!

FAQ is up

We've received tons of questions during the last days, so we have decided to update the FAQ section to answer the most popular ones, and if any of you still have questions and can’t find them there feel free to contact us directly!

Add-ons coming next week

Don't be disappointed if you want to have a specific reward added to your tier! Would you like a boxed copy or an exclusive T-shirt included in a lower level tier? We will be publishing Add-on specific information during the next week!

System requirements

Although we just included it on the FAQ, many of you have been asking about the system requirements. We are still far from completing the game but we have been running several tests, the system requirements below could change during the remaining development, but you could take them as reference:

Processor: AMD Athlon X2 2.7 GHz or Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4 GHz
Memory: 3 GB (OS 32 bits) or 4GB (OS 64 bits)
Video Card: 512 MB or more with support for Pixel Shader 3.0

And again, again, and again.. thanks so much to all of you!

Meet the team #2: Andor Kollar, Lead Artist for Death in Candlewood

Posted by Rosebud Games (Creator)

Welcome to the realm of imagination! The power of imagination connects the two separate worlds of reality and illusion. Imagination is even more important than knowledge: knowledge has limits, while imagination knows no bounds. This is the main principle of an artist and fills up with works with power.

I’m Andor Kollar, Lead Artist for Death in Candlewood, so I deal with numerous parts of Death In Candlewood every day. I’m particularly focused on characters, and I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out. Before Rosebud, I had previously worked on AAA games like Heroes of Might and Magic V, The Witcher, Silent Hill: Origins, Rise of the Argonauts, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and Overlord II. This sets me up perfectly for what needs to be done in Death In Candlewood.

I was always interested in combining traditional art, cultures and real life itself. Artists in the Middle Ages used to paint with oil and carved marble sculptures – nowadays computer graphics are a new, exciting medium, a modern tool with which we express our imagination. Working with 3D graphics is like creating a new world.

I’ve always been influenced and inspired by the human body and anatomy. Part of my job (and the most important and difficult thing for a character artist) is capturing characters’ personalities. I have been influenced by many artistic periods and big artists like Dali, Bosch, Giger, Gaudi, Monet, Duchamp, Dürer or Caravaggio, but specially the great Hungarian painter Mihaly Munkacsy (I’ve turned Toni into his biggest fan!).

I’m very proud of the eerie, emotive atmosphere that Death In Candlewood has and the great plot that reveals the destiny of an insane man in love, with a love as a destructive force that can annihilate anything and anyone. To make these characters seem real, I often had to put myself into their minds and went down into darkness and up again into angelic innocence. The psychologies of our characters are really important in this game.

Working on Death in Candlewood has been a fantastic experience. It allows me to work with inspirational, successful people in an atmosphere where other people’s work and opinions are important to everybody. I'm very proud of my work for the game too, and Rosebud has been a joyful opportunity for me to show my skills! I think we are a small but fantastic team.

There are two important phases in my daily work for Death in Candlewood: the concept and its implementation. They generally require the same amount of time, though design often requires more energy. It’s important to think through my ideas, but as soon as the final thoughts are done I enjoy playing with my work. I cannot rest if I don’t feel the personality of my characters is complex or believable. My favorite characters in the game are the Monsters, the Caravans, all the Chinese men, the Patients, Ray Dune and Rizzo. See? I love them all!

Thanks so much for reading. It’s been a honour to have the chance to talk about myself and my work on Death In Candlewood.

Meet the Team #1: Toni Sanchez, co-founder of Rosebud Games and creator of Death In Candlewood

Posted by Rosebud Games (Creator)

Here we go again with another project update! Today we begin a series of updates aimed at introducing you to the team. First of all, I shall introduce myself.

I’m Toni Sanchez, co-founder and producer at Rosebud Games. I'm the guy behind the KS profile, so I write most of the updates and answer your comments. I also help with programming, drawing and modelling when it’s needed!

My love for video games started a long time ago. When I was a kid I fell in love with the potential of computers from the first time I saw one, so I started developing small games for computers like ZX81, ZX Spectrum or Amstrad CPC in the early ‘80s and sold them at my school gate… how I miss the orange and green phosphorus screens!

Anyway, I'm an old school computer engineer (or was, back in 1992) and have since been working as a consultant, project manager and researcher in video games and media for universities and private companies, earning some international gaming awards along the way. I collaborated in most of the games used by Spanish public hospitals for patients with brain damage, and at present, if time allows, I also teach companies about new mobile and augmented reality technologies.

I started working on the Death In Candlewood concept many years ago. At the beginning I used my own game engine, but the more I worked on the idea the more potential I found, so we switched to the Unity engine to make our lives easier. After some talks with Jay Kyburz and Andor Kollar, the game has become what it is today.

Jay Kyburz was BioShock's Environment Lead. He has his own company (Iron Helmet) but helped us as a consultant. He is a fantastic guy, personally and professionally. Many good things seen in the game come from him, especially the ones related to the player’s emotions – here I also want to thank Raul Mora, our young and talented game designer, who has been able to make Jay’s ideas reality.

Andor Kollar is our Lead Artist and has been working on horror games for many years. He has an impressive resume with experience on AAA games including Silent Hill, F.E.A.R. and The Witcher and is the best artist I've worked with. This sets us up perfectly to make games like Death In Candlewood amazing, and I have been working closely with him every day for the last two years.

So, that’s me! If anyone is interested in finding out more about Rosebud Games or Death in Candlewood, please visit our dedicated websites or contact me!

First day update, thank yous and $60,000

Posted by Rosebud Games (Creator)

Hello and THANK YOU to all our backers so far! $2.000 in 24 hours, I can’t express how much your support means to us at Rosebud – without you, Death In Candlewood will not be made and we are so grateful for your backing. Thank you!

I just wanted to explain something that a number of people seem concerned about: why are we only asking for $60,000 when any game designer will tell you we’ll need much more money than that?

The reason we’re only asking for $60,000 is because Death In Candlewood is already a good way through development. Rosebud have been working on it in every spare moment they can get in the evenings and on weekends for the past few years and we’ve come this far on our own. However, as we reach the final stages of developing Death In Candlewood we’re turning to Kickstarter and to you to help us finish what we started.

We need $60,000 to complete the gameplay, mechanics, AIs and to polish Death In Candlewood to a high enough standard to please you and ourselves. We have the basics, but we can only make the great product we know we can with your help and support.

We’ve got a lot of updates planned for the next month, so stay tuned for ‘Meet the Team’ introductions, Kickstarter milestones, surprise reveals and more! If you have any questions, please do shoot them my way and I’ll either get back to you in a comment or in one of my weekly iPhone response videos.

Thanks again,
