Death In Candlewood is an open-world psychological FPS heavily influenced by the gothic fiction of Edgar Allan Poe and classic horror films. A love story between the living and the dead, the game plunges its player into the darkest corners of 1940s America.
The game spans a single night in the life of Ray Dune, a doctor whose relationship with reclusive psychiatrist Lester Caravan has reached a deadly crisis point. When his vulnerable adopted son Rizzo mysteriously disappears, Dune is forced to act. Navigating the dark paths of Candlewood Mountains and a terrifying onslaught of inhuman assailants, Dune sets out on a desperate bid to save himself and his son from the bloody machinations of a madman.
Though Death In Candlewood is played mostly from a first person perspective it is not a traditional FPS. The game world is expansive - including over 1,000 navigable buildings in Candlewood and 6km² of surrounding mountain ranges - and you can move around this vast landscape any way you choose. In Death In Candlewood you’ll drive cars and motorbikes, swim through deep waters, use uncommon weapons and face uncommon enemies as you unravel a dark and twisted romance.

Melee and short-range fire weapons will be more common throughout Ray’s quests, while the rest will be rarely seen – you can only purchase them at Candlewood’s gun shops.
Founded by Toni Sanchez and Jingjing Fan in 2011, Rosebud Games is an new developer made up of award-winning industry veterans with previous experience on games like Silent Hill: Origins, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and The Witcher. Based in Barcelona, Rosebud formed out of experts from different studios who wanted to specialise in creating intense, immersive game experiences for PC, Mac and console.
Death In Candlewood, due for release in the spring of 2015, will be Rosebud’s first title as a studio.
We at Rosebud Games have been working on Death In Candlewood in our spare time, spending countless nights and weekends on it. We have to work full time on other projects and in other jobs to cover all the development expenses. We completed most of the core gameplay in this way, but there’s still a lot of production as well as a tonne of polishing and testing left to do.
Shooters like Death In Candlewood are big games with lots of content and programming. We need your funding to help us keep our staff on full-time and hire additional staff to speed up production of the game.
Death In Candlewood will be our first release, and one we want to be truly proud of. Though we’re a small team with limited resources, Rosebud Games are absolutely committed to completing and publishing Death In Candlewood. It feels a bit like our baby.
We’ve thought carefully about how to go ahead once we (hopefully!) reach our base funding goal so we limit the possibility of there being any snares or hold-ups in the following production process. We’ve built our whole technology pipeline around the established, powerful and flexible Unity engine, which will allow us to develop the game we need while minimising the possibility of technological risk.
Rosebud Games will continue to build Death In Candlewood with its core team of dedicated and skilled members, supplementing them if required by high quality freelancers.
