About this project
Edgar Allan Poe's horror resurrects with Death In Candlewood, a gothic psychological FPS from a new studio made up of award-winning industry veterans who worked on Silent Hill: Origins, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, The Witcher and more, plus consultation from BioShock designer.
Extended Gameplay Teaser:
Death In Candlewood is an open-world psychological FPS heavily influenced by the gothic fiction of Edgar Allan Poe and classic horror films. A love story between the living and the dead, the game plunges its player into the darkest corners of 1940s America.
The game spans a single night in the life of Ray Dune, a doctor whose relationship with reclusive psychiatrist Lester Caravan has reached a deadly crisis point. When his vulnerable adopted son Rizzo mysteriously disappears, Dune is forced to act. Navigating the dark paths of Candlewood Mountains and a terrifying onslaught of inhuman assailants, Dune sets out on a desperate bid to save himself and his son from the bloody machinations of a madman.
Though Death In Candlewood is played mostly from a first person perspective it is not a traditional FPS. The game world is expansive - including over 1,000 navigable buildings in Candlewood and 6km² of surrounding mountain ranges - and you can move around this vast landscape any way you choose. In Death In Candlewood you’ll drive cars and motorbikes, swim through deep waters, use uncommon weapons and face uncommon enemies as you unravel a dark and twisted romance.
- Top-notch visuals and performance immersing the player in a psychological horror FPS influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and classic horror films
- 20+ melee and ranged weaponry from bare fists to Maschinengewehr 42s and tranquilizer pistols
- Lush environments and unique settings, from 6km² of shadowy mountain ranges to 4km² and over 1,000 buildings in the town of Candlewood, which can be walked, stalked, driven or swum through
- Innovative genre with mainly FPS mechanics plus role playing customisation, stealth elements and third person POV for driving a range of vehicles
- Buy and upgrade your ammunition, health, equipment and weapons
- Citizens of Candlewood and characters you encounter throughout the game each have branching, reactive dialogue and randomised events
- Range of animal, human and monstrous enemies, each wielding unique weapons
- Reactive and intelligent AI so foes and NPCs respond realistically to any situation
- Combat system incorporating line-of-sight and noise sensor mechanics
- Slow-motion cinematic dodge manoeuvres for close range melee combat
Melee and short-range fire weapons will be more common throughout Ray’s quests, while the rest will be rarely seen – you can only purchase them at Candlewood’s gun shops.
Founded by Toni Sanchez and Jingjing Fan in 2011, Rosebud Games is an new developer made up of award-winning industry veterans with previous experience on games like Silent Hill: Origins, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and The Witcher. Based in Barcelona, Rosebud formed out of experts from different studios who wanted to specialise in creating intense, immersive game experiences for PC, Mac and console.
Death In Candlewood, due for release in the spring of 2015, will be Rosebud’s first title as a studio.
We at Rosebud Games have been working on Death In Candlewood in our spare time, spending countless nights and weekends on it. We have to work full time on other projects and in other jobs to cover all the development expenses. We completed most of the core gameplay in this way, but there’s still a lot of production as well as a tonne of polishing and testing left to do.
Shooters like Death In Candlewood are big games with lots of content and programming. We need your funding to help us keep our staff on full-time and hire additional staff to speed up production of the game.
Death In Candlewood will be our first release, and one we want to be truly proud of. Your money will go directly towards financing the production and release of Death In Candlewood, and helping us produce our first title as a team. Rosebud Games will get nowhere without the support of fans like you!
$60,000 is the amount we will need to focus full-time on completing Death In Candlewood.
Though we’re really happy with the existing design of Death In Candlewood, there’s a number of extras we’d like to offer you in addition to the game itself. Here’s what we’d like to offer:
We want to focus on making Death In Candlewood as good and as polished as it can be. Rather than using our Kickstarter funding to introduce new features which will delay the game, we’d like to find ways to add more value to the game as a finished product.
We are so grateful to each and every single person who backs Death In Candlewood. Only you can make our game a reality! We’d like to offer the following rewards to show our gratitude:
Risks and challenges
Though we’re a small team with limited resources, Rosebud Games are absolutely committed to completing and publishing Death In Candlewood. It feels a bit like our baby.
We’ve thought carefully about how to go ahead once we (hopefully!) reach our base funding goal so we limit the possibility of there being any snares or hold-ups in the following production process. We’ve built our whole technology pipeline around the established, powerful and flexible Unity engine, which will allow us to develop the game we need while minimising the possibility of technological risk.
Rosebud Games will continue to build Death In Candlewood with its core team of dedicated and skilled members, supplementing them if required by high quality freelancers.
We promise to keep you in the loop about our progress on the game and to deliver Death In Candlewood as promised in this campaign. We also promise to ensure that the money you pledge us is managed responsibly to ensure a wonderful gaming experience on Death In Candlewood’s release.
We want as many people to be able to play Death In Candlewood as possible. It will definitely be released for PC. Also we are expecting to be released for MAC & Linux if we get enough funding.
We would love that! But it’s up to each manufacturer. We will try to talk with all of them if we reach the base funding goal.
Here we go:
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 2.7 GHz or Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4 GHz
Memory: 3 GB (OS 32 bits) or 4GB (OS 64 bits)
Video Card: 512 MB or more with support for Pixel Shader 3.0
Death In Candlewood is a single player only game. There is no multiplayer or cooperative play component. It falls outside the scope of our development plans.
Sure! Once the Kickstarter campaign is finished and if we meet the founding goal, we will be offering Paypal payments from our own website.
Yo can bet! We will be offering a completely DRM-free version through paypal / amazon from our own website.
