James Woodward and Gentry Smith, creators of the musical children's book "When Rebecca Woogie Came to Town," need your help for their jazzy new adventure: "Sophia and Her Ghost Friend!"
A story of adventure, monsters, and jazz music, "Sophia and Her Ghost Friend" is a rhyming, musical children's picture book, complete in 1300 words. When young Sophia ventures into the spooky woods outside her village, she makes new friends and discovers music that brings monsters and townspeople dancing together. "Sophia and Her Ghost Friend" will inspire children to play a musical instrument and encourage dedication, practicing, hard work and friendship. Building enthusiasm for young musicians and young readers, the story will feature an interactive soundtrack designed to expand children's music through various styles.
Our last musical book, "When Rebecca Woogie Came to Town," saw tremendous success when it reached over 100,000 children across the United States in schools, libraries, and concert halls; received a 2010 Independent Publishers Book Award for Children's Interactive Book; and was performed in live concerts with the Classics Philharmonic, Georgia Symphony, and Etowah Youth Orchestra. Now we are looking to do it again with an all new story and an all new interactive musical soundtrack, and you can help us bring it to life!

Your donations will make this new adventure possible and will fund top quality musicians & recording, provide top quality art & printing, and will contribute towards creating digital versions of the book, a musical concert work, and an entertaining and educational elementary school level program that will be performed across the nation for schools, libraries, and children's groups.
Risks and challenges
While every attempt to have the book awarded and published for a national audience will be pursued, the greatest challenge and risk of "Sophia and Her Ghost Friend" is the adventure of self publishing. Creating, drawing, and recording a musical children's book is an incredibly fun endeavor! It also takes a lot of work and dedication.
We learned an incredible amount from "When Rebecca Woogie Came to Town" and are confident in completing all the aspects of self publishing including advertising, printing, distributing, shipping, running websites and facebook pages, maintaining a stock of books, creating merchandise and apparel, organizing readings at libraries and schools, orchestrating a concert version of the story, printing out parts, hiring musicians, recording in a professional studio, creating and maintaining an advertisement free app, and submitting to publishers and awards. We have an inspiring story that we want to tell children across the country!
A successful Kickstarter campaign of $8800 is the minimum amount needed to fund this new musical adventure but far from the overall out of pocket expense. Recording, printing, and all other aspects of the project will use only the highest, most professional quality. Your donations are greatly appreciated and all reward levels receive a copy of the book! Investors like you made our first musical adventure, "When Rebecca Woogie Came to Town", a great success and it brought a lot of inspiration and joy to children across the country! With your help, we can continue to inspire kids to play a musical instrument, to meet new friends through music, and to learn the more you practice, the greater your adventure!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
