Crush The Pearl, Part 1 is the first section of an evening length concert of sensual and theatrical dances set to Radiohead music.
Crush The Pearl (CTP) is a concert of dance I have set to the music of Radiohead. The dances were orginally commissioned by Fischerspooner for their live show, and helped define the signature choreographic style that they use to this day. And while the dances have laid fallow for years, my love for them has never waned, thus, Crush The Pearl.
Outwardly, CTP feels like a phoenix rising from the ashes in a feather headdress, a dragon with a tail whipping the air around her, or a dinosaur, ancient and primal, roaring her way through time. And CTP's outward power is fueled by the monsters within, ie rage, regret, jealousy, the desire to control, which are all so poetically embodied in Radiohead and Thom Yorke songs.
Crush The Pearl Part 1, the first section of a three part piece, will be presented at DNA in NYC January 26-30th 2011 as part of an evening called SPLICE that I am sharing with Clarinda Mac Low. Soon after, I will set dates to produce Parts 2 and 3 at a larger venue while looking to secure the rights to the music as well as funding for the entire evening length piece. The funds raised here will be used to pay my collaborators and dancers so that we can present and professionally/artistically document CTP Part 1, and then use that document to secure rights and funds for the the entire piece.
The worth of the money that will allow me to fulfill this artistic vision far exceeds the numbers on the bills, and in light of that, I am offering the Crush The Pearl tidbits outlined below to sweeten the return on your donations!
