Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to view my project, SUNRISE IN THE QUANTUM REALM, a world premiere slated for performances at Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City, Nov 12 and 13, 2010. I am asking your kind help in raising funds for the production.

My company, COLLECTIVE BODY | DANCELAB, is comprised of 11 of New York's freelance contemporary ballet artists. I'll also be working with Karen Young—design team member to Lady Gaga and Matthew Barney, and the evening will feature composers as diverse as Michael Van Der Aa, Abbey Lincoln, Heiner Goebbels, Me'Shell Ndegéocello, Sean Hagerty, and Bang on a Can artist, Julia Wolfe.

My work ventures from Broadway-type audience pleasers to pyrotechnical, non-linear, asymmetrical feats to imagistic, sculptural contemplations on the great themes. SUNRISE IN THE QUANTUM REALM embodies all of those elements in a 50-minute meditation on shadow and light, and is a query into how humans might behave were they to mimic the way molecules interact in the quantum. The work explores various states of existence—physical, emotional, and psychological—tackling the unevenness of human experience. The dancers' movements suggest a duplicity of meaning as the stark, galactic darkness of the set is slowly peeled away to reveal a white, spacious environment; similar to how we perceive objects to be solid when at the molecular level there is hardly any solid matter at all.

The company will also be performing an extended version of last year’s LONELY HOUSE, a 15-minute duet symbolizing the arc of a relationship, from the sublime corporeal to existential isolation.

I've set the Kickstarter goal for this project very low in order to make sure that we actually receive the funds, but the project will take upwards of $25,000 to complete. The moneys received on Kickstarter will be used to pay (in this order): dancer performance fees, theater space, production costs (costumes, lighting, technical), composer fee and music rights, rehearsal space, and director salary.

Thanks for taking a moment to have a look, and help us out!
