About this project
Have you ever attended a food show where it was so crowded that you didn't get to taste everything? Do you watch cooking competitions on TV and wonder if you can taste the food or determine who wins? Is a restaurant really terrible because a critic said so?
Kitchen Wars is a live cooking competition, with a focus on local restaurants, chefs and foodies around the country, one city at a time. Five local restaurants will be selected independent of reviews. The idea is instead of choosing a restaurant to dine at based off of a review, you will have the opportunity to test the chefs out for yourself using our Kitchen Wars platform. Restaurant participants will have a clean slate and YOU get to be the judge.
The chefs will compete live in a tented event space in front of 1,000+ foodies. Each participating restaurant will have a fully equipped exhibition kitchen. Chef’s need to have the right tools so that they can compete at their highest level, and dishes are served fresh from pan to plate. Competition themes will vary; e.g. Thai, Vegetarian, Spanish, Tapas, Fusion. etc.
This competitive event will be filled with music, fun, food, demos, breweries, wineries, and more. This is more than a competition, we’re celebrating food. Up and coming chefs are given a voice, local restaurants will be marketed, and foodies will splurge. This is an opportunity for communities to come together, for restaurants and chefs to set themselves apart, and for you to be edified, entertained, and fed.
Chefs will be graded on three criteria, originality, taste, and speed. All chefs will have three hours to create a one bite amuse bouche, prepare and plate a one-course meal of 6oz per person, and must incorporate the mystery ingredient in each dish. After tasting all dishes, attendees will grade the chefs using our mobile voting app. Have an allergy? What if I’m vegetarian or vegan? We have you covered! Chefs will have a plan B in case a dietary restriction comes up.
The event will be an all day production from 11am-11pm divided into 3 sessions, averaging 350 persons per session. This breakdown will produce superior flow, quality control, and keep Kitchen Wars fun and competitive. In addition to the competition, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy themselves with open bars, lounges, music, and more.
A chef friend of mine came to visit. During the weekend, randomly a question was posed by my girlfriend. She was eager to find out who was the better chef. After a bit of back and forth, we accepted the challenge. A Saturday night throw down commenced.
She called up a group of her friends, took off to the supermarket and purchased a variety of their favorite foods. She built two identical mystery baskets. The baskets ranged from scotch bonnet peppers, to yucca, and plums. It was all over the place. It’s about 10pm at this point, rules were set, and we had 2 hours to complete a 4 course meal in a home kitchen we've never seen before.
Courses began flowing out of the kitchen. It was an awesome experience, from both perspectives. The people had a blast, eating, socializing, and asking questions. There was a feeling of suspense that lingered in the air not knowing what was coming next; this kept them up and alert. This was true for the chefs as well. We improvised as we went along, not knowing what we would be producing. There was a table of distinctive palates that had to be won over. The night ended off with critiquing and scoring. A little friendly competition didn't hurt either; two totally different approaches to food, one objective in mind, satisfying our guests.
From this night, the vision for Kitchen Wars by Kulinary Concepts was born. The founders set out to create upbeat events where everyone can have fun with food. Currently, we are hosting in home competitions and cooking classes.
Kulinary Concepts has a vision to bring Kitchen Wars to a larger audience. We will host the inaugural Kitchen Wars at National Harbor in April 2014. We've located an event space and started securing sponsors, developing the mobile application, marketing our brand, and identifying chefs to participate.
We want you to be a part of the fun! We have to raise our entire goal to receive any of the funds. Early momentum is key to success. So don't delay, get your reward now.
Secure your spot at the inaugural Kitchen Wars. The first 25 contributors will get tickets for a discounted price of $140. For all the V.I.P’s out there we have tickets for you as well. Have you always wanted to be a judge? We are looking for a select few foodies to be guest judges for the competition. If you can’t get enough we can bring the competition to you. There is a way for everyone to get involved and no pledge is too small.
The pledged funds will be used to execute on this vision. Funds will be used for the expansion of Kulinary Concepts, marketing, and to help purchase the rest of the equipment needed for our events. This is a unique opportunity for foodies, restaurants, and chefs to come together for a fun event that will benefit all. Our expertise and ability to execute quickly makes us the team to bring this vision to reality. This is an opportunity for you to be a part of history.

Be a part of our vision, by pledging today and helping Kulinary Concepts reach our goal of $60,000.
We thank you in advance and hope to see you at our next event.

Risks and challenges
Once we are fully funded, we will sign a contract with the National Harbor to reserve the date for the inaugural Kitchen Wars in April 2014. We're confident that seven months will provide us enough time to execute and produce an upscale event and deliver the rewards to our Kickstarter backers.
We have seen an overwhelming response to this idea by the food community, and are confident that we will be able to attract restaurants, sponsors, and guests to this event. This is referenced by our ability to sell out and attract numerous sponsors for our launch party including Capital City Brewery, Suga Chef Desserts, Chapel’s County Creamery, and Island Bwoy Sausage to name a few.
We plan to leverage Nahum Jeannot’s restaurant industry experience and connections to attract top restaurants to participate in the event. With restauranteur Randall Hoppmann at the helm of event coordination, she will ensure we provide an engaging five star event paying attention to every detail. We have identified a marketing firm to partner with to ensure that the event is well attended. We will utilize, the additional exposure from press and the Kickstarter campaign to generate buzz for the inaugural Kitchen Wars event.
As with all business risk is inevitable, but we are taking steps to mitigate the aforementioned risks to ensure our backers receive their rewards on time. We will be transparent with our backers throughout the process and keep you informed of progress over the next several months.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
