Pattern Play is for anyone looking to turn up their creative juice.
Have you ever said:
"I'm not creative."
"I'm not an artist."
"I need to relax."
"I want to be more mindful."
"I'd like to be more artsy, but I don't have time/space/money/talent."
"I need to organize my tangles."
If you have, this book is for you.
Pattern Play is a book about harnessing and expanding your inner creativity through Zentangle®, a relaxing meditative art form. Not familiar with Zentangle? Watch our video for a demo! In short, Zentangle is exploding across the world, being practiced by folks young and old in all walks of life. Why? Because it is fun, relaxing, and easy to do. To top it off, it's portable, inexpensive and only requires FIVE minutes or more. You've got nothing to lose and only your own creativity and relaxation to gain.
The book is aptly subtitled "A Creativity Workout" because, like going to the gym, you need to exercise your creativity muscles frequently to build them. Through mindful practice, you can nurture your creative side, refine your skills and become the artist you were meant to be. Written for beginners as well as seasoned tanglers (people who 'do' Zentangle), Pattern Play will help guide you through the process of discovering and developing your own style.
This process of mindful drawing is great for people who want to feel peaceful and less stressed, increase their confidence, concentrate longer, improve eye-hand coordination, manage pain better, sleep more soundly, meditate more deeply, feel more creative... The list goes on and on.

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk is simply that we won't make the deadline. We have been drawing and writing since August 2013. We are happy to share that 95% of the artwork is done and the book layout complete. That means the fun is done. Now we have to trudge through indexing, cross-referencing, proofreading, publishing and marketing to share Pattern Play with the world.
Thankfully, Cris wrote and self-published "Made in the Shade: a Zentangle Workbook" last year so she has experience in all aspects of publishing a book, even the "icky" parts. Sonya has had dozens of years of graphic design and fine art experience. Although this is the our first book together, we've been friends for over 10 years, weathering cross-country drives, Girl Scout trips, vacations, and the daily challenges of raising teenagers.
After that, writing a book together is nothing!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
