The Zarfling Conflict is a creature-packed strategic version of the classic card game War. Players reveal cards from their hands during each of the four rotating seasons, attempting to run off their opponent’s Zarflings through strength in numbers. The suits decide whether Zarflings return to the deck or stay in play that season.
Choose which card to play, and dominate each season. Your opponent is trying to do the same! Not knowing which Zarfling they call upon can turn your plan into chaos!
The game is for either 2 or 4 players. Win the game by running off all of your opponent's Zarflings, reducing their deck to zero. Play one-on-one or with a teammate!
Gameplay - Simple game mechanics mean The Zarfling Conflict is easy to learn, making it a great introductory strategy game for casual players and youth. The game features enough strategy to benefit to careful play, and the element of chance keeps the game fresh.
Education - The emotional theme allows The Zarfling Conflict to also function as an educational opportunity. Facilitate communication through play! Each family of Zarflings represents an emotional range, with the depicted emotions listed under the names. "When was the last time you felt the emotion shown by that Zarfling?"
An order of emotional animals discovered in the Wildestness have finally been named by scientists. These creatures are so unique that they have changed the perception of biological classification.
These "Zarflings" cannot be classified to any existing animal group, though they do belong to nine exclusive families. Their very life cycles are affected by their habitat! Brimming with emotions, studies show that they change beyond maturity with increasing intensity.

Thymozoologists have come from all over to study Zarflings extensively, and return with exclusive results. With more entering the Wildestness, conflicts are certain.

Start the game by setting the four season cards between you and your opponent. Split the deck. Draw four cards from the top of the deck, and begin in spring. Each player chooses a card to play face up, on their side of the Wildestness. High card wins! Winner places the cards under their deck. Turns rotate, and players draw four more cards each spring.
If each card is the same number, this is a conflict. Both players place one card face down, and another face up. The player with the highest total of face up cards wins the conflict!
If the cards are rivals (shown by the image on the bottom of the card), they act the same as above. However, both cards stay in that season on the winning player's side of the Wildestness. They will add to the total for that player, the next time a rivalry occurs during that season.
If the cards are allies (of the same family), they do not fight. Rather, the high card brings all cards in that season to the bottom of the winning player's deck. The two powerful WILD cards are allies with any card they encounter!

It's like you're swapping the #7 of Diamonds with a new #7 of Diamonds, only now you swap the #2 Fleefar from the Fearful family in your deck with the #2 Amfearbian from your booster pack.

I speak with Steven Giddings, a veteran attending school for video game design. He knows games, and can relate to the theme of The Zarfling Conflict!
A US Army veteran, Travis Blair started The Zarf as a creative outlet with his mom in 2013. It expanded from a comic site to become an entertainment site that includes interviews, reviews, and collaborations with other creators. Zarflings came into existence from him studying emotions, while coping with the transition of life after the military. He reached out to the webcomic community to collaborate, resulting in a diverse display of creativity. The Zarfling Conflict was created as a way bring people together to experience and express emotions through the imaginations of comic artists. He currently resides in beautiful Austin, TX, with an amazing woman and their three awesome children.

I am very proud of what this game has become. Thanks to everyone involved, it is something much grander than I imagined. With your help, The Zarfling Conflict can happen! I would like to help pave an entertaining path to discussing emotions, and bolster my beloved webcomic community by creating this game.
I want to give a special thanks to the graphic designer Tony Enriquez, who has been so patient with my ways and bringing to life images even better than my lofty expectations of him as a professional. I want to thank my best friend and "web guy" Logan, for assisting me with the crucial details along the way. I would also like to thank my mom, for coming up with the word "Zarfling". Lastly, I would like to thank my beautiful fiancée Emily, for being amazing and always convincing me to wear my clown gloves.
Risks and challenges
I've taken as many steps as possible to eliminate risks from my Kickstarter campaign. The graphic design work is paid for and complete. With the exception of a few Zarfling illustrations on schedule to be received in the coming weeks, every illustration is already created and received. I used conservative estimates for my production and distribution schedule. Production of the card game has already been arranged with the printer, pending the submission of files and payment for the order. This is why I am not offering any external items (for now) or complicated reward tiers that would delay the distribution process.
