Posting is done! Anyone want colour PoD?

Just a moment ago I sent the last of the emails through RPGNow to all those Backers whose tier covered the PDF and/or PoD versions of the Core Rules.

Possible problems - Possible solutions

That said, based on previous experience with RPGNow's complimentary copy email tool there will be problems ... either because it is, in itself, quirky (to say the least!), or, equally, because I managed to stuff things up (usually in a minor key) because it's quirky. So ...

  • Some email programs simply do not like the format of RPGNow's emails and will not allow double clicking of the Codes in the email to take you automagically to the appropriate web-page with the discounts already included. What you need to do is to cut and paste the codes into your browser. This has worked 100% of the time in the past ... but you need to be careful you've cut and pasted the whole code and nothing but the code (blank spaces cause the same problems as missed symbols-letters)
  • Some of you may receive more than one email for each of the PDF and the PoD books ... if you do, either use or ignore as you see fit.
  • Some of you may not receive an email at all, or may only receive one for either the PDF or the PoD but not both (if you've paid for that) ... first, check your Spam filter carefully to see if the email went there, if it didn't, then email me at aspqrz@tpg.com.au and I will send a repeat email.

Colour Print on Demand

Since there's really nothing in the book that cries out for a need for colour, I only did a B&W Print on Demand version.

At least one Backer has expressed a possible desire to have a colour option.

I am amenable to doing this, but there are issues that need to be considered -

  • It would cost roughly 50% more for standard colour, which RPGNow doesn't recommend any more ... though I find it perfectly acceptable ... as it prints as slightly washed out and on the thin paper that they use for B&W PoD.
  • For premium heavyweight it would cost at least triple, probably more. The colour repro is better, and the paper is heavier stock ... but, frankly, there's nothing in the book that cries out for this level.
  • IF I were to do it, it would be one or the other of the above.
  • IF I were to do it, the approvals process is unlikely to be complete (assume at least three weeks, possibly a month) before the deadline for Xmas delivery of the final product ...

Please respond to this thread if you desperately want a colour PoD option (and note if you'll settle for standard colour if you want premium heavyweight) ... and indicate which level you'd prefer ... if there are at least ten Backers who want colour I'll do it ...

Still not enough. Look, what I can do is this ... I have a Colour version all done and uploaded to Createspace, and their colour is printed on the same heavyweight paper that LSI (RPGNow's printer) uses for Premium Colour, AND their colour is better than standard, and much cheaper than Premium ...

I haven't ordered a physical proof ... yet ... but Createspace creates a PDF proof that is, in my experience,100% accurate the couple of times I have used it before ordering a physical copy.

If someone will volunteer for the tough job of proofing it for me, and they're in the US, it can be there before the end of November ... if they'll pay for the printing via PayPal, I'll pay for the shipping. If it proves good to go (all you'll have to do is check each page and the cover visually) I can then offer it to anyone here who wants one if they pay me separately as well.

If it proves to be a dud, then I'll update it with corrections and post it to the Backer in question for the cost of postage ...

The cost of printing is ~US$33 and Expedited Shipping is ~US12, just as a FYI ...

Anyone who is interested, PM me through Kickstarter (DON'T send money at this stage) and I'll pick the first to do so as the Guinea Pig!

If all goes well, this cuts out the much longer wait that would be involved with me going through RPGNow, which would be, as I said, around 3 weeks, possibly 4 this time of year.

I would definitely go all in with a colour HC premium book. I wish I had a book like this when I started DMing.

Iam sure at least 10 of the 400 plus backers would be interested in color. I think the issue is that many people do not read updates.

My request is that a decision about color happens soon, as I don't want to buy two versions. So I'd buy it if available, but don't particularly need it (so I guess don't count me as a vote for it).

I would also be interested in a colour version, in either of the variants.

      The Colour Option
Six in favour, not quite enough ... yet. We will see!

Hardcover Option - Black & White
I was actually planning to do a HC B&W version some time down the track, mainly for myself ... but I can look into doing it in the next few days. However, there's little chance it will be processed through RPGNow and Lightning Source and have time for me to get a proof copy (and that assumes a second isn't required) any faster than the colour version. So it is extremely unlikely even US or UK Backers would be able to order it and get it before Xmas.

I really don't want to go down the rabbit warren of doing Colour HC versions ... double or triple the print cost plus the cost of doing it as a Hard Cover and you'd probably be looking at US$40-50 (standard/premium) or so even before shipping which would be another like amount for me! Around AUD$110-150!

I'd need 50+ Backers wanting one to do a colour Hardcover.

      @Peter Hollinghurst
I am glad that you have found it of some use ... yes, it did take a lot of research and wide reading over the last decade or so. I wrote the original and did the update because there were so many answers I wanted ... and I figured (somewhat correctly, as it turned out!) that others would probably appreciate the info as well ;-)

All worked perfectly - downloaded the PDF and put in the POD order with no problems! A big thank you. The amount of research and study that must have gone into this book made me do a double take - having bought a fair number of books by historians covering similiar subjects of life in various historical periods this one is the most in depth and comprehensive I have seen. With zero 'waffle' as well, all very straight to the point and informative. A really wonderful and incredibly useful and informative book.

It is always nice with books in premium heavyweight colour, and I also agree with those backers who asked for a hardcover version :)

After a quick skim of the PDF, I'd also be interested in a color option, preferably premium.

I'm Agnostic on Color/B&W but would kill (well almost lol) for PoD Hardcover option.

Hi! I would prefer color, but am okay w/ b&w. If color is an option, I am all in, standard or premium.

As my Art Teacher colleagues would have said, they're not colours, they're tones & shades!

So long as the colour version does not just consist of black, white and grey ;)

I would be interested in color as well. Regular or premium does not matter.

I'd love a premium color POD option. I mean, if I'm going to go color, I'm going all the way.
