Proof has arrived - Good News/Bad News

Well, this is a sort of good news/bad news thing ... the Proof from RPGNow's Print on Demand Printers, Lightning Source, actually arrived today ... four weeks to do so, which is the best by almost 3 weeks ever ... and the interior has printed perfectly as has the Back cover and the Spine. That's the good news.

The bad news is that none of the text on the Front cover, not the Title, not the subtitle, not even the 'by Phillip McGregor' has printed. The background graphic prints fine, though. This is particularly strange as the Spine Title is in the same font as the Front Cover font, yet prints perfectly.

It can't be that I sent along the wrong cover file as there is/was only the one ... no draft, no intermediate stage, just the one.

I have had problems with fonts on the cover of LSI books before, for my previous Kickstarter, but they, at least, printed a box in place of each letter they couldn't print.

This one has nothing.

So I don't know whether the problem is the font/file I submitted or whether LSI has stuffed up somehow ... so I have emailed RPGNow Customer Service to see whether they can get LSI to make a suggestion (not much hope, their suggestions tend to be ... opaque at best, irrelevant at worst, in my limited experience).

If they can't, I can re-do the cover with the cover graphic with text as a single file jpeg instead of a PDF constructed from a Page Layout file where they are separate (which was the solution I stumbled on purely by chance with my last Kickstarter ... no thanks to LSI) ...

Still, it means another week for the updated file to be submitted to RPGNow and approved by LSI, then another week to be printed ... and I guess I'll spring for the insanely expensive DHL courier and 3-4 working day option for delivery and hope it's all good ... it may, barely, come in around the time I get the funds from Kickstarter.

Still, even if there's a delay with the Print on Demand version, the PDF version will go out within 24 hours (touch wood!) of the KS funds arriving here down under!
