A Message from Dean Erickson

Dean Erickson, the dashing and daring actor who played Gabriel Knight in GK2: The Beast Within, has sent me a video he made to support our kickstarter project.  Thank you, Dean!  We miss you, the fans miss you, and we hope to snag you for voice-over on our upcoming Pinkerton Road adventure games.

I agree Dominic. I do miss Dean and never doubt his great contribution to the world wide success of GK2. If we have him (or his voice) on Jane's work again, that would be insanely great!

I was about to suggest something, and then Jane said it! ;)

I think it would be absolutely brilliant to ask him to do VO. And getting Tim Curry in there would probably also be absolutely marvelous ;)

It's true that everyone needs to make money; kudos to any individual who actively pursues a career and enjoys the process. Working in finance or motivational writing certainly does not make Dean a bad person. I also think there is no reason to believe that Dean Erickson wasn't motivated to do the video for Jane Jensen out of friendship for her, and affection for what was once a part of his life. He was an actor, and the work he did for Gabriel Knight was as an actor. Whether or not he even likes (or liked) games isn't relevant to the quality of work he did for that project. I enjoyed his video and I'm enjoying all the updates. I'm happy to be, in my own small way, a part of this new Jane Jensen project! Thank you Jane for making this possible--and thank you to the members of her team.

@Andreas - That's a bit rough. I just conclude that he is success-driven. I'm sure he still has personal interests and hobbies.

Did anybody here even realize what he does these days and draw conclusions from that? He works in finance, has written at least one motivational book and at least in the past, he said in an interview that he doesn't play games.
Come on, people... It doesn't take much to see that the chances that he did that out of love for the project he once participated in are very slim. And of course also that he'll participate in any way in future project. He probably makes more in a day than average artists make in a week or even a month. And people will rarely pursue finance-related careers if money isn't the highest priority in their professional life.

LOL on one screen he can do the voiceover and on the other he can keep an eye on the your investement :p Just kiddin but it would be great indeed to have mr Erickson do a voiceover..
And the comment he made to Xavier in GK2 "I am a avid hunter" is just the catchy frase for a t-shirt.
Maybe with the Shattenjagers necklace in the background. A nice goody for the next GK. I would like to have the first one then :p

It's so great to see Gabriel himself suport Jane's kickstarter! It seems Dean moved on from acting, but perhaps he could make his acting comeback as Gabriel in GK4... One can only hope! Btw, he's got a real nice "Willem Dafoe"-thing going on with his smile, which made me smile my silly fangirl smile as well when I watched his message. :D

This is just fantastic! I have always been a great fan of Dean's performance in GK2 and can still remember getting rather giddy spotting his brief cameo as "Waiter" in an episode of Frasier soon after. If you do manage to ensnare him for a voiceover, that would be wonderful.

It was so cool to see Dean after so many years since GK2! He did such a good job as Gabriel Knight. I really hope to see him or hear his voiceover in future games.

    27. Shane C on May 4, 2012

Dean would be a most welcome inclusion in any adventure game. Hope to see (or hear) more of him in the future. "Canis....LUPIS LUPIS", that's classic!

    28. Joneleth on May 4, 2012

Very nice of him to record a video in support, it has after all been 17 years. I knew he quit acting and went back into the finnacial investment sector, where he's now the CEO of his own company (you can see the company name and homepage adress on the file cabinet behind him. Clever plug.)

Enhance the visibility of the video: put "Gabriel Knight" in the video title, put a link to the kickstarter in the description.

Am I too weird just because this actually makes me wish GK4 was full-motion video? :)

    32. sVnsilver Sand, Dream Traveller on May 4, 2012

Awesome plug from Dean. GK2 was also my first of the series and my favorite, thought 1 and 3 are not far behind. I remember being a little disappointed that Dean wasn't doing the voice in GK3, having never played Sins of the Fathers yet. Tim Curry's voice was more edgy.. abrupt, arrogant and still with charm.. I loved both of them in the role.
Though I have to admit, as soon as I heard Dean Erickson backing the project, I immediately thought about how out of this world it would be for him to voice GK4, when Jane is enabled to develop it. =)

If GK4 is made (when) I think I would prefer Dean over Tim Curry to voice Gabriel. Great video, thanks Dean!

    39. Bernardo Bluhm on May 3, 2012

Great to see him trying to help out in the campaign for Jane Jensen. For me, GK2 was the best adventure game I've played, great story and very interesting characters. It was actually a bit of a bummer for me when I found that that GK3 was not going to be full motion and worse, Dean Erickson wasn't going to replay his role, he is the best GK.

I actually enjoyed Dean as Gabriel Knight a bit more than Tim Curry, just because his accent was more subtle and less "jarring". And I agree with Pedro. Dean has barely changed at all.

    46. advmal on May 3, 2012

      I was hoping he'd say, "Canis...LUPIS LUPIS!!!"
Great to see Dean doing well. He was a great Gabriel Knight.

    47. Stiler Orion on May 3, 2012

Perhaps you could have it as a middle goal? Like say if the kickstarter reaches 450k you'll get Dean Erickson to do a character in the game :D.

I do hope if you eventually do get the rights back to GK and make a new GK 4 he'll have a part in it, I always think of Dean when I think of GK, as GK2 was my favorite of the series and to me he is "Gabriel Knight."
