Welcome to our Kickstarter page for the feature film, Pater Noster. Pater Noster stars Luke Perry and Stacy Haiduk. It will be co-directed by Michael Nouryeh and Bradford Tatum who also wrote the screenplay.
WHAT IS PATER NOSTER?
Pater Noster details the journey of Thurlow Weed (Luke Perry), a widower who is a member of a Conservative Christian sect called Pater Noster. The church has provided Thurlow with a surrogate wife, Kate (Stacy Haiduk) to aid him in the raising of his troubled teen-age son, Cameron. Thurlow works as an accountant for a demolitions company called DemDoc which has stringent ties to the church. After years of service, Thurlow is given a promotion. His new responsibilities entail little more than then holing up in a motel with nothing but a shredder and reams of documents which are to be “processed.” As Thurlow goes about his duties he begins to suspect that DemDoc may have links to the tragic events of Sept, 11, 2001. As Thurlow's discovery becomes obsession, everything he holds sacred begins to unravel and slip away, his church, his family and quite possibly his mind.
Pater Noster is a potent and challenging film whose subject matter is sure to ignite debate. It explores the fabric of the American character in our post 9/11 world.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS
Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects. Every month, tens of thousands of people pledge millions of dollars in money to creative projects in dozens of categories.
A person who supports a project is called a "backer." The process of giving money to the film is called a "pledge."
In return for your pledge, we (the creators of the campaign) are able to offer "rewards," depending on the amount you pledge.
For example, if you pledge $25 to help back the project - you'll receive a PDF of the final shooting script plus a DVD of the film.
Pledge levels vary from just $1 to several thousands of dollars. And each different level opens up a new, creative reward. (For a full list, check out our incentives on the right side of the page).
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Making. Movies. Isn't. Cheap.
That said, it doesn't need to be excessively expensive to create a high quality, emotionally engaging, visually accomplished feature . The money we are raising via Kickstarter will combine with our own funds and we are confident we can create a professional feature film on a relatively modest budget. We are fortunate to live in Los Angeles where there is a wealth of talented people to crew up. Nobody is going to make their 'normal' rate on a film at this budget level but if we are able to pay a non-embarrassing daily/weekly rate, experience dictates we will draw talented individuals who are willing to work at reduced rates on something interesting and outside their usual sphere.
Here's an example of areas our funds will be applied toward:
- Securing locations
- Key Personnel (Cinematography, DIT tech, Sound Recordist, Art Director, Gaffer, Costume, Grips and so on...)
- Meals (or as grips would say - fuel)
- Final Color Timing
- Sound Mix
HOW TO PLEDGE AND BECOME A BACKER
You can become a backer in just three easy steps:
Step 1: Read through the pledge levels and rewards we're offering in the right sidebar of this page.
Step 2: Click the large, green "BACK THIS PROJECT" button to the right of the trailer video at the top of this page.
Step 3: Enter your pledge amount - and complete the steps for filling in your information. This process takes just a few seconds!
That's it! You've played an important role in bringing this film to life!
Special note: Your pledges are not processed by Kickstarter until the campaign reaches / surpasses it's goal. We meet our goal or we get nothing even if one penny short!
Risks and challenges
Making a film always has it's inherent risks but the four individuals committed to bringing this feature to life have between them, several decades of film production experience. The one area that has evened the playing field for smaller films is the advent of digital technology in the production and post production realm. No longer are independent productions at the mercy of outside labs, editorial or sound facilities to finish a feature. The production of post-production crew for Pater Noster will be comprised of an intimate, experienced group of collaborators who will get this film completed.
