A Sci-Fi Rock Opera about an Advanced Native American Culture against a Defiant European Colony in a War over the Myth of Pigrow.

Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand is a Science Fiction Rock Opera written and composed by myself, Luke Carr, which takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the near future.  This Kickstater is intended to raise the funds necessary to record the album, produce CD's and vinyl, publicize the project, and support the band's efforts to rehearse, record and perform Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand for audiences.

My first solo album, recorded & co-produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, introduced the mysterious word Pigrow as it's title, which I described (mysteriously) as a shade of teal; Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand reveals the world behind this color.  Listen to the album Pigrow! http://www.lukecarr.bandcamp.com.

WHO'S IN THE BAND?

Being that the story takes places in the Santa Fe area (of the future), I am proud to present an amazing, powerful band of local Santa Fe talent to tell this "local" story, including Andrew Tumason (from the band Eva Rusnik), Peter Duggan (of Pitch & Bark), Will Dyar (of Host Skull), Caitlin Brothers (of Narwhal Space Cadets), Fred Simpson (Master Drummer), Max Klugerbell (multi-instrumentalist), Leticia Gonzales (violin & percussion), Adam Cook (of Treemotel) and many more local Santa Fe musicians who will appear on the album.

WHAT'S THE MUSIC SOUND LIKE?

Incorporating my recent studies of West African and Haitian rhythm, the "Storming Band" features multiple drummers and percussionists to create complex (and highly danceable) rhythms to many of the album's songs... Have a listen!

I also incorporate guitar, bass, vocal harmonies, strings and horns over these beautiful rhythms... Have another listen!

SO... HOW IS THIS AN OPERA?

Set in the near future, between what is now Santa Fe, New Mexico and Southern Mexico, Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand re-hypothesizes the past, telling of a technologically advanced Native American culture that has thrived as a community, retaining control of the continent we call North America.  European colonists, retreated from their defeat against the Natives, have settled New Europe in the area we call Southern Mexico.  Southwick is the capitol and main port of New Europe.

Ravaged by a failed industrial revolution, New Europe and Old Europe are dependent upon trade with the Natives for food and clean water.  The Natives, on the other hand, are flourishing.  Compromising after a short period of civil war, Native tribes have united their resources to maintain a sustainable and respectable system of farming, which, after long debate, they have commenced to trading with Europeans through their port town, known to the Europeans as The Dragon's Tail, which we know today as the city of Santa Fe.  Due to a tumultuous period of unrestricted industry, the temperature of Earth has increased dramatically and the oceans have swelled over much dry land, pushing the Gulf of Mexico north towards the Galisteo Basin, where the coast and beaches now remain.

Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand follows the story of a single boy who lives in the decrepit town of Southwick with his father; the two of them, along with a small group of others, escape North, on foot, towards Native land, in hopes of admittance into their country and a better life.  Unknown to these fleeing rebels, both New Europe and Old Europe are preparing for a mass attack on the beaches of The Dragon's Tail.  Starving and desperate, the Europeans' last best idea is to attempt to incorporate the thriving food production system of the Natives.

Alas, this utopian Native society with flourishing food production is not without a root.  As the boy begins his journey North, his dreams are flooded with a color so strong that it's growing out of the Earth itself, as some sort of fiber.  This color is the source of the Natives' sustainability and the soon-to-be target of a dying culture.

WHO IS DOING THE ARTWORK?

A very exciting addition to the team of musicians I have assembled is the Navajo (Diné) artist Tony Abeyta, who will be contributing the artwork for the cover of Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand.  A crucial contributor to the local Santa Fe art scene, not to mention the global art world, Tony's artistic skill will provide another layer of professionalism and depth to this project.

I will also be contributing my artistic hand to flesh out the world I am proposing, by providing a collection of drawings of mapsschematics of the Natives' technologyimages of the city of Southwickcharacters of the story and more.  These drawings will be integrated into both the compact disc and the vinyl packaging.

IF YOU'VE READ THIS FAR...

If you have read this far, you may be interested to know that Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand can be considered Episode One of a growing series, that will eventually span other mediums of art beyond a concept album.  My focus is clear that the goal now is to complete and present Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand in this proposed form.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

I understand there to be risks and challenges with completing "Storming The Beaches With Logos In Hand" as it involves a cast of players whose participation is crucial to convincing audiences of the power and uniqueness of the story I am attempting to convey. The commitment of musicians to such a large project is vital to the success of live performances and to the entire rehearsal and recording process. I am confident in the core group I have assembled, which I call the "Storming Band", and I am also confident that the music and the project itself is so exciting that I will always find inspired musicians who want to contribute to it.

It has been suggested to me that proposing a Sci-Fi Rock Opera in itself is a risk, which I would have used to agree with; but as the band continues to realize the powerful sound I have in my head, and as I sense the excitement of every person I explain the concept to, it feels like less and less of a risk, and simply the story I have to tell.
