Tall tales of a day on the river are often accompanied by fine brews. The Angler's Pint glass will insure the tallest tales will be told while sipping your favorite beverage from this 21.5 ounce glass featuring a beautiful full-color brook trout scientific illustration by award-winning Maine artist (and angler!) Karen Talbot. The process used for creating these full-color glasses is the highest quality process short of hand-painting each and every glass (if you want a hand-painted glass, check out the $50 pledge level!).
Upon successful completion of this Kickstarter campaign, the Angler's Pint will be available at www.KarenTalbotArtOnline.com starting at $10 per glass. Backing this project now will not only help Karen get the first production run of Angler's Pints completed, but you'll also get the absolute best price--as low as just $7 per glass! The goal is to expand the line to include additional species of fishes, as well as flies/lures. Check out the possibilities by connecting with Karen on Facebook and seeing what she's working on in the studio right now!
What is an Angler's Pint?
If you've enjoyed a pint in Britain, you may have noticed a small crown etched near the top of the glass in which your pint was served. The crown stamp indicates the glass is a certified vessel capable of holding 20 imperial fluid ounces (568 ml). A similar certification does not exist in the US, but the standard pint served on this side of the pond is just 16 US fluid ounces (473 ml).
Given that fly fishing's roots are firmly planted in Britain, don't you think it appropriate that, after a long day on the river, anglers are rewarded with a proper pint?
Better yet, how about an Angler's Pint?!
This Angler's Pint holds 21.5 ounces (636 ml) and graciously boasts its superiority with a fly rod above both a crown and an American flag*. Beneath is a stunning full-color scientific illustration of a brook trout with both its common and scientific names.
Reproducing full-color art on a glass can be a challenge, which is why Karen has teamed up for production with a US company known for working with craft breweries and other discerning customers who know the value of quality artwork. The brook trout on the Angler's Pint is reproduced using eight inks to achieve the best color match to Karen's original painting. Inks are silk-screened color-by-color onto a sheet of special paper and coated with a cover that lifts the image off as one piece. The finished image is then hand-applied to the glass and permanently fired on.
The Angler's Pint is a distinctive glass standing 7.25 inches tall with a 3-inch diameter rim. The base is 2.375 inches in diameter. These are heavy, durable glasses featuring a German design that feels comfortable in the hand and looks stylish on the shelf. The design of the glass itself is often referred to as the Willybecher and has many attributes that enhance the experience of consuming various hop-centered beverages.
Oh! And the Angler's Pint is dishwasher safe!
A Note on Shipping
While durable, the Angler's Pint is still glass. As a result, individual Angler's Pints mail in crushproof boxes and are guaranteed to arrive unbroken. In addition to the expense of shipping glass, the Angler's Pint is relatively heavy, adding to the cost of shipping.
Karen Talbot Art ships via UPS by default within the United States and has negotiated a rate of just $9 to ship one Angler's Pint almost anywhere nationwide (for some locations, USPS shipping may be used instead of UPS). This shipping charge will be added to your reward, bringing the total cost to $17 at the $8 reward level. The cost for shipping goes up slightly at reward levels where backers are receiving four or more Angler's Pints.
The cost of shipping is, not surprisingly, higher for international orders. A shipping fee of $25 will be added to all international rewards, bringing the total cost to $33 for a single pint glass. Please also note that it is possible your country will also charge you customs duties.
Timeline & Budget
If fully funded, production will begin in July with the first Angler's Pints shipping from Maine in August. Handpainted Angler's Pints (rewards for backers at the $50 level) will begin mailing in September. Studio classes (rewards for backers at the $250 level) can be scheduled anytime that is mutually convenient starting once the Kickstarter campaign ends.
Most of the budget for the Angler's Pint project is dedicated to set-up costs for the first run. Because Karen's full-color artwork will require eight inks necessitating eight separate screens, more than one-quarter of the budget (excluding the shipping costs discussed above) will go to set-up costs. The next major expense is the glassware itself, and quality, durable glassware isn't cheap. Because the project is producing a product that, despite its durability, is still breakable, another significant line item in the budget is packaging materials.
After a lot of work and tweaking, the first run of glasses is projected to cost Karen Talbot Art around $6.08 per glass. The remainder of the budget is dedicated to various smaller fees, including the Kickstarter fee and payment processing fees. Any additional funds will be used for marketing efforts and to increase the initial run size. If backers express interest, Karen will also consider adding stretch rewards if the original goal is exceeded.
If you like the Angler's Pint concept and want to see more Angler's Pints with additional freshwater species, saltwater species and flies/lures, please share this Kickstarter campaign via social media using #AnglersPint and @KarenTalbotArt. The more funds raised at this stage, the sooner Karen will be able to expand the line. You're also invited to connect with Karen on Facebook by clicking here.

Risks and challenges
As with any printing job, there can be delays based on the proofing and printing process. While Karen will do everything in her power to insure your reward mails on time, there is always the risk that accurately reproducing the original full-color artwork will take longer than expected. If any delays occur, you'll be updated here.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
