Even if the DRUMKIT breaks down easily for lefties, this awesome jungle drummer used it to play it "right".

Romain (drummer) & Greg (guitarist) are playing with the 1st OBILAB DRUMKIT prototype, and they loved it!
Sounds and design were tremendously improved since that time.
Why Obilab ?
When you start dreaming about drumming, you quickly realize that your options are very limited. On one hand you have traditional instruments while on the other hand you find more gaming / geeky options but nothing in the middle that can address pros, newbies and amateurs at the same time.
Drums are well known for being expensive, loud, inconvenient, long to assemble and almost impossible to carry around, for those exact reasons, drum teachers encourage students to make their own, homemade, drumset. That is why we created the DRUMKIT: an ethical instrument that solves these five problematics at the same time.
Shortly after making the first prototype, Patrick decided to gather musicians and friends in order to get their first impressions. They instantly saw the DRUMKIT as a game changer.
He was looking for a complementary co-founder to join the adventure when he was introduced to Caroline, specialized in business development and living in New York City. As a child, her wish was to play drums, but she never got a chance to pursue it, so she immediately understood Patrick’s vision and embraced the opportunity to spread music practice together. A few months later, Victor, passionate about product’s innovation and adventures, joined the team as a co-founder and the chief product officer.
In order to measure the DRUMKIT’s potential, we came up with a minimal, valuable product to reach the market as soon as possible and in less than 90 days, the entire first crafted production of 150 DRUMKITS was sold out and delivered. Following that first experience we started building an ecosystem, capitalizing on our dear first clients and getting constructive feedback to make the DRUMKIT a GREAT one!
These past 8 months have helped us understand our customers, strengthen our partnerships, networks, as well as our team and get a better sense of the challenges we face. But more importantly, we considerably improved the DRUMKIT. That is why WE need you to get to the next step!
Creating and selling an entire production in Paris, France, made us aware of what to expect and therefore anticipate. The biggest challenge now is to turn the crafted production into a manufactured one. Being in Barcelona Spain, (known as the cardboard region) helped us secure strategic partners, including a local factory to begin our growth.
We are now fully ready to start the second production!
Let's press the ‘start’ button TOGETHER !

/// About Cardboard and Fiberglass
Fiberglass ( white fabric on the Hit surfaces ) is usually used for construction purposes. It is a highly resistant material able to support repeated percussions without altering its function.
Cardboard is resistant, and well used, it can be structuring, waterproof, fireproof, and a lot lot of incredible other caracteristics. Cardboard as been used for many different projects including a bike, a surfboard, a church or a kayak. More about these projects in our News N°8.

In the DRUMKIT, you will find a total of 6 main elements (+ their structures) :
1 . Sydney : the Backpack / stool / hand percussion, cajon style with conga sounds.
2 . Bob : kick drum with its pedal. You can use the top as a floor tom as well.
3 . Captain : the snare, that you can rimshot when you hit it flat.
4 . Hi-Charly : use it as a closed Hi-hat or as a handy shaker.
5 . Tim Tom : a higher sound in the center and a lower sound on the edge.
6 . Boso Drumsticks : the only bamboo drumsticks ever created. You can use your drumsticks also if you have some!
More on the Kick Pedal :
Thanks to feedback on the first production, we came up with a reinforced lasting kick pedal allowing you to kick really hard !
/// The Electronic Module
With the electronic module - that will fit inside the folded DRUMKIT - our aim is to offer a unique opportunity to increase the DRUMKIT’s possibilities. The Electronic Module can be removed as many time as you wish.
With rubber pieces set up on the white/fiber glass spots, the DRUMKIT will become completely silent. These same pieces, equipped with sensors linked to an electronic module and connected to a mobile phone or computer, will be able to record the ‘hit’. That way, it is very easy to choose between playing with your headphones in order to avoid annoying your partner or making a concert for your neighborhood by plugging it into a wall of amps!
N.B: Obilab Electronic Module won the "Be the future of sound" contest organized by Saat Lutech. The jury was composed of 9 people including Hughes Vinet (R&D director of iRCAM) and Marc H'Limi (Antenna Director of Radio Nova).
CHARACTERISTICS:
- 6 electronic pads including the kick pedal.
- USB 2.0 : to power it and connect it everywhere.
- GENERAL MIDI : to make it work with all your devices.
The Electronic Module is still at a development stage and the most important things to make it work perfectly are:
- sensitivity and longevity of the sensors.
- accurate calibration on the DRUMKIT.
- software development for all platforms.
With the Obilab DRUMKIT and its Electronic Module, you will get an outstanding experience!
/// The DrumKID
This is the perfect fit for kids under 130 cm or 51 inches.
Same Specificities as the DRUMKIT with slight alterations:
- No Tim Tom.
- Sydney, Bob and structural parts are 20 cm smaller than the DRUMKIT.

/// What we'll do with the money :
Obilab is already a french registered company. Following our researches and calculations, we were able to determine a 50.000€ pledge as the turning point in making a sustainable and lasting company as well as a high quality production.
50K might sounds a lot but it comes down to, more or less, 500 DRUMKITS to produce, so help us make it possible!
/// About the production
The truth is, we’ve got a lot of exciting things to tell you about our very deliberate process. Obilab is in the middle of conquering 6 very important challenges. And, like everything else in the company, we’re really happy to be totally transparent on what we’re doing and why.
(CHECK the FAQ for more infos about these 6 challenges)

Risques et défis
One of our biggest challenge is to bring back the pleasure of learning and playing music.
And since we believe music should be accessible to everyone, we have to legitimize the DRUMKIT as a unique and new instrument, not a replacement. That said we are aware that cardboard has a bad reputation when it comes to resistance and lifetime. Our challenge is therefore to let people know that adding fiberglass on the DRUMKIT makes it even more resistant than a traditional drum skin.
We are creating a new market in order to combat the idea that a ‘real musical instrument’ is something that looks a certain way and costs a certain price. We will also develop tutorials to make music a fun experience rather than a difficult process.
Finally, we hope to be everywhere, where no one expects to find a DRUMKIT, in disruptive locations and in order to let everyone try it.
