(FYI! The $200 tier includes signed books! Sorry for the confusion.)
My name's Gigi D.G., and for the past two years, I've been writing and illustrating Cucumber Quest, a lighthearted fantasy webcomic for all ages.
Maybe! Last year, I launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the publication of Cucumber Quest's first printed book. The project was a tremendous success, and with the aid of over 1,000 backers, I was able to print a very lovely book and work full-time on webcomic updates for six months.
(Book One is available in the shop, but you can also receive it as part of certain reward tiers this time around!)
One year since the previous Kickstarter campaign, I've created nearly 200 new pages of Cucumber Quest, and the next chapter of my story is complete and ready to be printed.
Giant squid monsters! Treacherous caverns! Mobster crabs! These are but a few of the perils awaiting our intrepid(ish) heroes as they set sail for the Ripple Kingdom. Picking up where the first volume left off, Book Two finds our unwilling "legendary hero," Cucumber, separated from his companions after a pretty gnarly shipwreck. Luckily, the cheerful and wise(ish) Princess Nautilus is on his side, so rescuing the kingdom from evil should be a snap! ...Right?
Cucumber Quest's second book will be about 220 full-color pages, featuring "Chapter 1: Disaster in Paradise" and the following 42-page interlude, as well as bonus comics and other new material from the website. Just like last year, we're planning to print both a softcover and a hardcover version.
Since this book is considerably longer than the first volume, it will cost a bit more to print. The printing and shipping costs for a project of this scale will be at least $12,000. Provided we meet our goal, the books will be printed in fall 2013.
Thanks so much for your support!
What's the print set? A collection of six postcard-sized (6"x4") prints, each featuring a character from the comic. Last year's print set is shown above. This year's print set will feature the Dream Oracle, Princess Nautilus, Chardonnay, Queen Cordelia, Splashmaster and Saturday.
For a pledge at the $250 you'll receive an original ink drawing (7"x10") of the Cucumber Quest character of your choice. At the $325 tier, you'll receive a gouache painting (9"x12") of the Cucumber Quest character of your choice. (This example is not signed, but yours definitely will be.)
At the $500 tier, you'll receive a complete digital illustration of whatever subject matter you like.
At the $1000 tier, you can choose from any of the previously mentioned illustration rewards, and you'll also receive a handcrafted paper cutout featuring the Cucumber Quest character of your choice. Naturally, I can only offer one of these!

Risks and challenges
This is my second publishing campaign on Kickstarter, so I've done all of this before. Last year, I was able to ship out over 1,000 orders over the course of about a month while keeping up with regular comic updates four days per week. This time around, I'll be dedicating a full week to packing and shipping orders to hurry the process along.
The comic portion of this book is complete, so all that remains is editing for print and completing bonus materials, which should take no longer than two months. Printing will be handled by the same reliable and timely company as last year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
