My name is Ariel Rubin, I'm a singer/songwriter born on the west coast of Canada, now living in Cambridge, MA. Eight months ago I arrived here with a single goal: MAKE MUSIC! With this goal I had a plan...
Step 1 Take my recently released debut album and a handful of rough tracks and begin shopping myself around the Boston music scene
Step 2 Meet musicians, build a band and continue recording
Step 3 Take Boston, New England and beyond by storm!
I am excited to say that Cambridge has welcomed me with open arms! First I began working with Mike Davidson, a talented Boston-based producer, then Mike lined up a roster of amazing musicians to play on my album and most recently I booked a series of shows in Boston, Cambridge, New York and London. To summarize - things have been going swimmingly!
This campaign will raise money to promote and release my upcoming EP - Big Spoon.
Featuring cover art by the most talented Ms. Becky Comber and three lovingly produced tracks, this record will showcase my songs finally brought to their full potential.
While I have managed to finance the recording out of pocket; the expenses to print, press and create a PR campaign that includes photographs, merchandise and a music video are extensive.
I will also be compiling press kits to send to a vast list of college and independent radio stations across Europe and North America with the aim to gain airplay and begin building a larger fan base.
Simultaneously I will continue to work with my producer honing my songs.
And then there are the CD manufacturing costs...
To date recording fees have totaled over $7,000 and the next phase adds up to an additional $18,000. If I raise my goal you will have helped cover the majority of the costs listed below.
Music video (gear rental, lighting, stylist, travel, director) - $6000
Photographs (photographer, gear, stylist, makeup) - $2000
Web campaign (design and IT)- $2000
Artwork - $1500
CD production (pressing and packaging)- $1500
Radio mail out - $2000
Producer fees/artist development - $2000
Merch (t-shirts, posters, buttons) - $1000
I plan to use the release of Big Spoon to create a buzz about myself and my music while I continue to build a band, connect to a growing fan base and tour locally and abroad. Over the next 18 months I plan to release two more EPs, combining them with the tracks from Big Spoon to release a full album in 2012!
Raising money on Kickstarter is not simply about donations; it's a venue for trade, collaboration and support. My friends and I have a collection of beautiful, hand-crafted items waiting to be shared in thanks for your contributions.
Whether you donate $1 or $10,000 we appreciate you! It's so amazing for artists like Becky, Graydon and myself to have this venue to access the funds to our creativity!
