Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls brings together Pact Magic Unbound, Vol 1 and Pact Magic Unbound, Vol 2 by Radiance House, correcting and updating these tomes as well as providing nearly 100 pages of all-new pact magic content that has never been published before for a combined total of over 300 pages of Pact Magic content. Rather than a patchwork product of previous content, Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls features a seamless integration of new and old content in order to provide a cohesive reading, gaming, and referencing experience.
Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls has been a long time coming. Our fans have asked us for a compilation product for several years and after switching focus to the far future in last August's Age of Electrotech, we have decided to honor those wishes and create an all-new tome that is worthy of being the material and spiritual successor of Dario Nardi's Secrets of Pact Magic, published in 2007. As of the start date of this Kickstarter, Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls has already passed its initial development and is currently in its Alpha Playtesting. Because Radiance House primarily handles its print products via Print on Demand services, Alex and Dario could potentially have the book off to the printers by the end of the month, set to publish by Spring 2015. But this would require a drastic hit in the art department; commissioning artwork is expensive and because Dario and Alex want Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls to be the best product that it can be, they've sought out Kickstarter as a means to raise the funds that they need to get new artwork commissioned and build a social network that will allow them to further spread the secrets of pact magic to gaming groups around the world.
The minimum amount of funding that Dario and Alex need in order to commission enough new pieces of artwork in order to cover the open slots that Dario and Alex deem most important in Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls is $2,500. If this funding goal is met, every backer in the Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls Kickstarter will receive a playtest version of the project immediately after the Kickstarter ends. That said, Dario and Alex's true goal is to reach $6,000, as this is the estimated amount that they will need to commission all-new artwork for every available slot in the product. In order to get there and beyond, a slew of stretch goals and backer rewards will unlock as the Kickstarter's goal climbs higher and higher, and we'll even have rewards available if our backers spread the Kickstarter through word of mouth. If you're a newbie, take a breath and prepare to plunge into the esoteric and maddening world that is the Grimoire of Secrets!
This section lists the Stretch Goals for the Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls Kickstarter.
Our backers have unlocked the following stretch goals thus far:
- FUNDED! ($2,500): When we've made our funding goal, all backers receive a playtest copy of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls at the conclusion of the Kickstarter as thanks for their support.
- Forgotten Pact Lore ($4,000): We'll add not one, not two, but NINE all-new Starless spirits to Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls. 'Starless' is effectively a fifteenth Constellation, a group of spirits with no affiliation to the other 14 constellations. Several of the new spirits will include Sybee, a girl who was doomed to bear a fiend's child, Pevwyrn Pervon, a character from one of Alex's home games whose soul was given to an efreeti as a plaything. Kami Onmyoji, a kami who was once the guardian of pact magic, Giza Sekhemet, a war-mongrelling catfolk who bound her goddess to her body in order to transform herself into a God-Empress sphinx, Inexorus, the first inevitable, and more!
- COLOR, ENGAGED! ($6,000): With this stretch goal, Dario and Alex will have raised enough money to completely stuff Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls with new artwork. All print orders of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls will be upgraded to color printing for FREE in celebration. Additionally, further stretch goals will unlock all-new chapters and content for Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls.
- Occult Prestige ($8,000): With this stretch goal, Dario and Alex will be able to start adding entirely new chapters to Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls. First up is a chapter entirely devoted to new prestige classes. If we raise $8,000, we'll be adding about 20 pages of Prestige Classes to the final book, including a few that Alex has been teasing in the Pact Magic Facebook group, such as the dragonsoul snatcher, the greensprout rapscallion, the keeper of Taios, the Saelendrian Avenger, and the Saelendrian Exorcist. This chapter will include new artwork purchased using the funding from this Kickstarter.
The following stretch goals remain to be unlocked:
- World of Pact Magic (See Text): As requested by the backers, Dario and Alex are offering an expansion to the backer-earned bonus Chapter, Chapter 7. This bonus Chapter is unlocked based upon the number of members in the Pact Magic Facebook page. At 250 members and every 40 additional people thereafter, we'll add more organizations, planar descriptions, and settlements to the book in the form of a new two-page spread. Every $40 pledged beyond $8,000 will count as ONE member joining the Pact Magic Facebook page, so more money = more pledges, and joining the group is essentially worth $40. Let's see how big we can make the setting flavor Chapter together!
- Future Projects ($8,000+): If the Grimoire of Lost Souls campaign reaches $10,000, then the backers will have gone and exceeded Alex and Dario's every expectation. So much so that they don't have much else to offer at this point. So instead, if the project reaches beyond $8,000, then all of the money raised is going to go towards their next Pathfinder RPG projects. If this goal is met, we'll also be checking in with backers as that next book is met as if we had funded it with this Kickstarter. (Which'll be partly true.)
More to Come as Goals are Met!
Add-Ons are special rewards that you can unlock from our Kickstarter by increasing your base plesge by a specific amount. For example, if you are buying into the $60 PRINT & PDF tier, but you decide that it would be pretty sweet to get a picture of your favorite cavalier PC getting his face melted off by an occultist in Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls, you can do that! Just increase your pledge by $40 and boom! You'll earn that add-on. Likewise, if you're someone who loves Dario's neuroscience work and wants to support us, but you don't want to bother with all of this "gamer" lingo, you can pledge $5 to help the Kickstarter, then increase your pledge amount by $10 to get a copy of Dario's Pact Magic fiction anthology, Love's Tapestry, for yourself.
The only rule that you'll face is that all add-ons have a minimum pledge value of $5, so if you want any of the rewards that we're offering, select the $5 pledge, and then add the amount of money associated with the pledge goal that you want when you move onto the Kickstarter check-out. Keep a record of the add-ons that you want too, because when Dario and Alex send out the Kickstarter survey at the end of the project, we're going to be taking inventory of what everyone is asking for.
Age of Electrotech (Add-On Varies): Dario and I are more than willing to sell discounted copies of Age of Electrotech to those who back our Kickstarter. You'll get the awesome, 5-star Age of Electrotech product as well as the confidence that the money you used to buy it is going to make you another awesome product! What's better, Age of Electrotech even includes an occult archetype for its new base class, the esotechnician. You can add a PDF copy of Age of Electrotech to your pledge for $8, a print copy of Age of Electrotech for $13, or a PRINT & PDF Bundle of Age of Electrotech for $17. If you purchase a print version of Age of Electrotech, your purchase must abide by our shipping guidelines (see Shipping, below).
Everyman Add-Ons (Add-On Varies): If you like Alex's design work with Radiance House, you might be interested in the work that he does for his own company, Everyman Gaming, LLC. You can add a copy of one of the following Everyman Gaming, LLC PDFs as an add-on at the special, indicated price: Psychological Combat ($2), Kitsune Compendium ($5), Occult Options #1: Binder Secrets ($1), Leadership Handbook ($4), Dragon Companion Handbook ($4), Everyman Archetypes: Swashbuckler ($1), Microsized Adventures ($4), or Samsaran Compendium ($5). Backers who have pledged at the $50 tier or higher can elect to purchase all eight pdfs for a special, super-ridiculous price of $20. That's $7 off the special Kickstarter prices, or a whopping $15 off their usual retail price!
Extra Copies (Add-On Varies): Want an extra print or pdf copy of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls? Send a copy to a friend or loved one as a gift? Pledging for a goal that doesn't include the Print or PDF version of the final product? Don't worry, Dario and I have got you covered! You can add an extra PDF copy of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls to your pledge for $15, an extra print copy for $45, or an extra print & pdf bundle for $50. If you purchase a print version of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls, your purchase must abide by our shipping guidelines (see Shipping, below).
Love's Tapestry (Add-On Varies): This lovely digital tome, written by Dario Nardi, is an anthology that explores the concept of love and the misguided ends that people will go to in its name. Love's Tapestry includes dozens of fictitious legends from the Secrets of Pact Magic series. It includes a number of never-before-seen spirit legends exclusive to Love's Tapestry as well as several rewrites to classic, famous spirits including Hollow-Eyes and Portenta, the Orphic Seer. Any lover of Dario's vibrant personality and enthralling written style will find themselves spellbound by Love's Tapestry. You can purchase the PDF of this product for a mere $2 (down from TEN previously in the campaign!), the print version for $12, or a print/pdf bundle for $13.
Spirit Cards (Add-On $3): Hold the power of occult spirits in the palm of your hands! Coming late in 2015 are SPIRIT CARDS; playing card-sized implements that provide a quick resource for each of Pact Magic's spirits. The listed price is for a PDF version of the cards, but anyone who pledges through the Kickstarter for both the spirit cards AND a print version of Love's Tapestry (or a print/pdf bundle of Love's Tapestry) will receive a discount coupon on the print version of the Spirit Card decks. We're offering this incentive because we don't know how much the cards will cost to product at the time of this Kickstarter, but we want our backers to have access to the best possible price on this highly anticipated product!
Platinum Backer (Add-On $10): Since the point of the Kickstarter is to raise money to make the best product possible, Dario and Alex want to give something a little extra who go above and beyond other backers, and platinum backers will receive several small perks as thanks for going above and beyond what Dario and Alex could ever ask of their customers. They will receive their PDFs roughly one week before other backers and their print copies will be placed at the front of the mail delivery list.
Everyman Gaming 2015 Subscription (Add-On $25): If you like Alex's design work with Radiance House, you might be interested in the work that he does for his own company, Everyman Gaming, LLC. Backers who buy into the Everyman Gaming 2015 Subscription will get a copy of every product that Alex publishes under Everyman Gaming in 2015, including January's Everyman Archetypes: Swashbuckler, February's Microsized Adventures, and March's Samsaran Compendium. Alex has plenty of other neat products planned after that, and you can bet that $25 will be a steal for all of the content he produces in 2015. If something unfortunate happens and Alex hasn't produced $30 worth of PDFs by December 31st, 2015, then the subscription will remain active until subscribers receive a minimum of $30 of content from him.
Character Inclusion (Add-On $40): Who wouldn't like to see their personal roleplaying game characters illustrated and brought to life within the pages of the Grimoire of Lost Souls? Backers who purchase this add-on will be able to provide a character description for their character's appearance and personality for Alex and Dario to commission into one (or more) of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls's illustrations. You can pledge for this goal multiple times, getting a series of characters into a number of pieces, a party shot for one of our illustrations, and more. Dario and Alex pretty flexible. That said, those who select this add-on need to be aware that Radiance House will legally claim all copyright for the work in question and that they will use the characters based upon the needs of Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls' first. If the Kickstarter is extremely successful, we might be forced to bump the picture that your character will appear in to a later published piece. Regardless, we'll show off the piece with your character on it and we'll include a portion in the back of the book where we mention the names of every character that appears within the book for our readers to enjoy.
We're also open to the prospect of providing additional rewards and benefits to our backers, so if you have some ideas for Pact Magic products that you'd like to see, shout'em out and we'll see what we can do!
Exciting news! Thanks to a generous contribution from Jonathan Nelson, all backers who pledge $15 or more will receive a free 1-month subscription when the Kickstarter ends! Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls is expected to ship by August 2015. That said, Dario and Alex have many innovative stretch goals planned that add additional content to the product, which could result in a delay in its release date. Likewise, Dario and Alex can't predict any stumbling blocks or mishaps that might occur while working with the high volume of artists that they plan on working with in order to meet their goals and expectations, which could also delay the resulting product.
Finally, Dario and Alex are aware that they have many fans across the globe and they are more than happy to service those individuals within their Kickstarter. That said, the goal of this project is to raise funds to make it the best Pact Magic product imaginable, and ultimately paying out of pocket to send print books to foreign countries would quickly eat away at the amount of money raised to improve the quality of the book, so we are requiring all backers to pay for their own shipping for any printed goods that they order. Please keep in mind that the pledge goals do NOT take in your individual shipping and handling fee into account when pledging for goods or services through this Kickstarter.
Additionally, your Kickstarter pledge does NOT need to reflect the amount of money that you need to spend on shipping. Shipping will be paid for when the product is ready to be shipped and not a moment before.
If you have additional questions or concerns, you can contact Dario or Alex in the following ways:
Both Dario and Alex regularly check the Pact Magic Facebook group.
Alex can be reached at the Everyman Gaming Facebook page and he can be reached at Twitter. Please refrain from asking him Kickstarter-related questions on his blog, Guidance, unless the article's topic directly involves the Kickstarter or Pact Magic.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk that we face in creating Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls is delays in the production of our artwork. The word content of the book has already been sent through its initial playtesting and is on its way out the door and into the editor's hands and all backers in the $5 Tier and above will receive playtest copies of the product upon the campaign's conclusion.
Dario and Alex are both seasoned publishers (Radiance House and Everyman Gaming, LLC respectivelY) and have put out three prior print books together: Pact Magic Unbound, Vol 1, Pact Magic Unbound, Vol 2, and Age of Electrotech. We understand the costs and risks of creating print books (ask us about the time Pact Magic Unbound, Vol 2 came back with a large, white streak across its front cover sometime!) and have taken all possible steps to minimize this risk.
Whether or not this Kickstarter is a success, Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls WILL happen. This Kickstarter's purpose is to ensure that it is of the highest quality possible through the inclusion of new artwork and content.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
