Do you need a dragon in your life?
Once sworn enemies, adventurers and dragons are forming a new alliance based on a mutual love of hoarding shiny things.
Meet Dragon Bagons
After a successful Kickstarter campaign to launch Bagthulhu's conquest of the globe, Wayward Masquerade is back with a range of CR10 cuties that want to hoard all your dice.
Dragon Bagons are made of super cuddly microfleece and stand about 8 to 8 and a half inches tall. Flip back their head to reveal the double drawstring dicebag belly that will hoard up to 100 standard dice.
Why I'm doing this
Making things is a fundamental part of who I am. I make stuff, all kinds of stuff.
The problem is, handmade is expensive.
That means a lot of super cool adventurers might not be able to afford a CR10 companion to go on adventures with them. By having a run of Dragon Bagons manufactured, I can bring the price down and make them more affordable, while also freeing up time to make more weird and wonderful stuff. I also want to make a better future for myself and my family. I want to be able to support my parents and myself.
But most importantly, I'm doing this because it means more dragons in the world.
And who wouldn't want more dragons in the world?
We need to raise enough money to have a run of Dragon Bagons manufactured, making them more affordable and introducing them to new habitats around the world. That's where you lovely people come in.
If you need a dragon in your life, have a look at our family of dragons to find the right one for you.
Note: Due to Kickstarter policy, all prices are in New Zealand dollars. Conversions are estimates based on the exchange rate at the time.
Custom Dragon Bagon D6: $5 NZD / $3.50 USD
Impress any dragon with a shiny custom D6. Here's a few mock ups of what I'm aiming for.
Note: The limits of the process in terms of design and resilience to wear and tear may mean we need to alter the design slightly to get the best effect.
If you're keen on getting a set of say 6 or 10, let me know and I'll make some extra pledge levels :).
These will also be available as add ons, so if you have pledged for a handmade reward and would like a D6, just add the cost to your pledge and you'll be able to select it later on in backerkit. If you would like a special bundle, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Custom Dragon Bagon D20: $6 NZD / $4 USD
Six sides not enough? How about a D20? The dragon head will be on the '20' face.
These will also be available as addons so you can add the cost to your pledge and select them later in backerkit :)
Young Dragon (Manufactured Dragon Bagons): $48 NZD / $34 USD
Made of super cuddly fabric, a Young Dragon Bagon stands approximately 8 and a half inches tall and will hoard 100 standard dice, keeping them safe in a sturdy dicebag belly with a double drawstring closure.
UPDATE: You can select a manufactured Dragon Bagon in Red/Black, or Purple/Teal/Black!
Among the stretch goals is increasing the run enough to add additional colour options.
Almost all the slots for the handmade rewards were gone very quickly, but there's many people who need a rare dragon in their lives and sadly I only have two hands and a couple of super awesome helpers. So several lovely people suggested adding a 'second wave' of handmade reward slots for people who want a more unique Dragon Bagon, and don't mind a later delivery date.
If a pledge level or reward is marked as "second wave" it means it will be made and delivered later than the first batch of handmade rewards.
Just like the second wave, this is a way of meeting the demand for custom colour rewards. If a reward is marked third wave then it will be among the last of the rewards to be delivered.
Custom colour first generation Dragon Bag
Get a hand made, custom colour, first generation Dragon Dicebag. First generation Dragon dicebags hold approx 70 dice, and have fabric eyes and 2 colours.
Just-in-case Dragon Bagon (Rainbow): $90 NZD | $64 USD
Second wave and Third wave
This is an odd one. Basically, there are lots of people who want Dragon Bagons in Rainbow. Our second big stretch goal is to make the manufactured run big enough to add this colour combo in. But just in case we don't get there, these slots are for those who want to make sure that they get the colour they want.
So to begin with, these slots will be for handmade, standard size, Rainbow Dragon Bagons. Once we (fingers crossed) hit that stretch goal, backers can switch from this pledge level, to the Young Dragon pledge level, and get their Rainbow monster for a lower cost. If you're backing for this slot it's important to keep an eye on the campaign and the updates so that you're ready to switch over if needs be.
If we hit the stretch goal and backers switch away from these slots, I will replace them with second wave custom colour slots.
Pumpkin spice Dragon: $90 NZD | $64 USD
These extremely rare dragons are only spotted around Halloween. They're part of a second wave of handmade Dragon Bagons with a later delivery date that will allow more adventurers to have a dragon in their lives without me getting too overloaded.
Slack Wyrm/Ferragus inspired Dragon Bagon - $90 NZD | $64 USD
With the kind permission of Slack Wyrm's creator (Joshua Wright), this very limited edition Dragon Bagon is available in Slack Wyrm's colours. I'll even see if I can get some yellow safety eyes. These will be handmade as part of a second wave of Dragon Bagons with a later delivery date. This allows for more dragons, without me being burnt to a crisp. You can't have too many dragons together at once.
Adult Dragon Bagons (Custom Colour): $90 NZD | $64 USD
When you choose a custom colour Dragon Bagon, you'll need to select three colours; Main, Contrast, and Highlight. These are the same size as manufactured Dragon Bagons and hold the same amount of dice.
Note: Colour chart is below the rewards
These aren't the only dragons out there though. There's a whole family of CR 10+ cuties who want to meet you, some are available as rewards now, and others we can unlock by reaching stretch goals.
Drakelings - $90 NZD | $64 USD
Unlike Dragon Bagons, Drakelings are not a dicebag, but a sort of cross between soft toy, ornament, and a wearable item. They're a bit longer and narrower than Dragon Bagons, with a bendy spine that lets them curl around furniture, straps, humans, etc. They also have the same loop as the Dragon Bagons so they can hang off a bag, a belt, a rear view mirror, etc.
Though honestly, their most important feature is that they're just plain adorable. Seriously, look at that little nose ^_^
Elder Dragon Bagons - $120 NZD | $85 USD
Do you have a mighty hoard? you might need a double size Elder Dragon Bagon. They'll happily hoard 250+ standard dice and tower over other dicebags. These reward slots are very limited. A later stretch goal is to have a small run manufactured, making them more affordable.
Custom Dragon Bagon - $200+ NZD | $142+ USD
Work with me to design the Dragon Bagon of your dreams. If you choose this level, please get in touch with what you have in mind, so we can work out what your pledge level should be - the $200 is just a guide, and the sky's the limit. These reward slots are extremely limited.
Manufactured Bagthulhu - $47 NZD | $33 USD
If you missed out on the Bagthulhu campaign, you can still back for a manufactured Bagthulhu here :)
If you have a health or disability issue that means Dragon Bagons won't work for you, but you'd like to have a dragon in your life anyway, please get in touch. Depending on your needs, I can have a go at making a custom Dragon Bagon to suit. The cost will depend on what's involved, and I can't guarantee I can sort everything for everyone, but I'm happy to try.
I've added a number of bundles for custom colour rewards. If there's a special bundle you want that isn't there, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :)
Manufactured Dragon Bagons and Bagthulhus are available as add ons, just add an extra $48 to your pledge per extra Dragon Bagon ($47 per Bagthulhu) and you'll be able to select them afterwards in Backerkit. At this stage custom colour rewards will not be available as add ons due to their limited number.
Note: Avocado is no longer being produced. I still have some in stock, enough to do quite a few dragons, but if there is more demand than fabric I'll let backers know and look for an alternative.
Charrlotte (our ambassador dragon) has been very patient, posing for all those photos, acting in the videos, being cute for lots of people. Now she needs a hoard of her own.
For every $50 (NZD) the campaign raises, I'll add a die to Charrlotte's hoard, and keep you updated. My ultimate goal is to have a small mountain of dice with a very smug little dragon sitting on top.
We'll start her off with one die. You're not going to leave her with just one are you?
Day 25 - 787
She's taken to bathing in dice now.
Base Goal - $26,500 NZD | $18,800 USD **ACHIEVED**
Have a run of Dragon Bagons produced in one colour
Charrlotte's hoard - 531 dice
Custom D6 - $31,000 NZD | $22,000 USD **ACHIEVED**
Have a small run of custom D6s produced in one colour with a dragons head emblem on the 6 and make them available as rewards and add ons. Here's some rough concepts I'm still finetuning.
Charrlotte's Hoard - 621 dice
Purple Dragon Bagons - $36,000 NZD | $25,500 USD **ACHIEVED**
Introduce a second colour option to the manufactured Dragon Bagon run.
Charrlotte's Hoard - 721 dice
Note: This colour combo is not set in stone just yet. I'll be taking feedback from the Beta group right up until the goal is achieved or the campaign ends.
First generation Dragon Bags - $41,000 NZD | $28,900 USD **ACHIEVED**
I know some lovely folks preferred the original Dragon Bag design, so if we hit this stretch goal I'll make a very limited number of these handmade Dragons available as rewards.
Charrlotte's Hoard - 821
Custom D20 - $49,000 NZD | $35,500 USD **ACHIEVED**
Have a run of custom Dragon Bagon D20s made up and make them available as rewards and add ons.
Rainbow Dragon Bagons - $59,000 NZD | $40,500 USD
Introduce a third colour option to the manufactured run: Rainbow.
Charrlotte's hoard - 1811
If we hit our first lot of stretch goals, there's more we can do. The order these goals come in will depend on feedback from backers, the popularity of currently available rewards, logistics, and cost. If there's something you want to see, join the Beta group and have your say, add a comment, or send a message ^_^

The Bagthulhu campaign taught me some valuable lessons :
However long you think it will take, triple it: Some pretty horrible real life stuff happened (and is still going on) towards the end of the Bagthulhu KS, and it slowed everything down. Backers were super supportive, and that's awesome, but even with the time buffers I added, delays in factory sampling, and suppliers still had an impact. I had originally calculated the time needed for each step and added two months, but this time around I'm adding more. I'd rather have more time than we need than less. I realise the longer delivery time frame may put some backers off, but I feel I need to make every effort to be transparent.
You can't please everyone: This is a tough one for me because you folks are lovely and I want to make all of you happy and give you little monsters that you adore. Unfortunately there are all manner of factors involved in every decision I have to make, no matter how insignificant it might appear, which sadly means I can't make everything perfect for everyone. That sucks, but I promise I'm trying my hardest and I do care about what you lovely folks want.
However much help you have, you probably need more: I'm used to being a one geek operation, so sharing the load has been a learning curve for me. Finding the right people isn't always easy, but I think I'm getting there. You might notice I switch between "I" and "we" a bit throughout the text, that's because I have a small motley team of super awesome people helping to make all this happen.
A wide product range helps, but you need to focus: I've limited the custom reward slots significantly because they represent a lot of work. Custom is awesome, but I don't currently have the infrastructure to turn out as many as I would like. So for now I need to keep the numbers manageable so that I can keep my promises to you lovely people.
To keep the target a little simpler, shipping fees will be collected in backerkit, where you'll also be able to select add ons. You don't need to add shipping costs to your pledge right now :)
Different delivery time frames
Since we now have some handmade rewards with different delivery estimates to the main run, we may end up doing several waves of shipping. I'll be working on ways to keep it as simple as possible for backers. If you've selected rewards with different delivery timeframes, please be prepared to have either all your rewards arrive together at the later timeframe, or to have them arrive separately. I'll keep you updated on how things are shaping up in that regard :).
Note: The following is a rough guide to shipping costs you can expect in backerkit after the campaign has closed, but bear in mind that your shipping may vary depending on which rewards and how many you've selected.

As backerkit's shipping system does not currently support combined shipping that works well for the rewards available, it's a good idea to get in touch if you have selected more than one add on to your original rewards. I can check if there's a cheaper combined shipping cost for your order that way.
VAT, GST, and import duties
We will be importing directly into some regions, which allows us to take care of customs duties, VAT/GST and any other levies. From there fulfillment partners will distribute rewards.
- United States
- United Kingdom & European Union
- New Zealand
For other parts of the world we do not currently have a fulfillment partner, so unfortunately we are unable to import and cover customs duties and other taxes.
Dragon Bagons are complex and fussy, they won't accept poor quality or poor working conditions. I have approached multiple manufacturers and part of my inquiries have been what measures they have in place to protect workers in their supply chain.
While I can't personally oversee every step in the process, and I don't have the clout to make demands, I can ask the questions and put business where there's a reasonable assurance of sound ethics.

Risks and challenges
The Bagthulhu campaign taught me a lot. It's still in production, but we're making steady progress.
Suppliers can forget you placed an order (that happened), manufacturers and workshops can be delayed (that happened), or pull out right before they're due to start work (that happened). But I'm still here, we're making progress and we'll see it through. If I stopped, I'd be eaten by Bagthulhus, but not before I was roasted by Dragon Bagons.
The truth is, there's a lot that can go wrong even in a relatively small project like this. You can plan for all kinds of issues, and still have something totally out of the blue surprise you.
To deal with this, I'm working on a few principles; Get help, Give yourself a buffer for everything, and Communicate.
Get help: I'm slowly building a small team of awesome people around me to help make Wayward Masquerade run more smoothly. It's a bit of a trial and error process finding the right people, but it's already making a difference.
Give yourself a buffer: I'm setting the delivery estimates a long way out, because I would much rather have time and not need it, than need it and not have it. I've worked contingencies into the budget to cover changes in production, materials, tax, and fulfillment costs.
Communicate: I'm a talker. You may have noticed. Whatever happens, you'll know about it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
