Dice safety testing report (super teeny tiny update)

The safety testing report came back for the multisets and they passed ^_^.

It was more of a formality to get it done but I feel a lot better knowing we've been a bit more careful.

Handmade update

Ok, this update is primarily about the handmade Dragons. We're nearly finished the second and third waves of Elder Dragon Bagons, so we'll be sending them and the Slack Wyrm Dragon Bagons out to the fulfillment centres soon. So if your order consists of an Elder Dragon, a Drakeling, a Slack Wyrm, or any combination of those three only, then your order should be on its way to you soon. A couple going to NZ and Australia have already gone out.

Our next focus will be the Adult Dragons and the Custom Dragons. The cutting for the Adult Dragons is taking a while because there's twice as many and a LOT of different colour ways.

I've heard back from the manufacturers about my feedback, they're recommending against using felt for the spikes and scales for durability reasons. I honestly expected felt to be more durable than microfleece, but I don't routinely work with felt so I can't say for sure. They're looking for new fabric options at the moment and at whether fusing two pieces will work as a back up. They're also making other adjustments.

We're currently waiting on the safety reports for the manufactured Bagthulhus and Dragon Bagon dice.

Also, I'm still sick, which sucks, but I can mostly breathe normally again, which is an improvement.

My rescue horse is still ticking along and so far seems to be comfortable. The meds won't work forever, we're already on borrowed time, but it's nice to give him some more good days. He's going through two bags of peppermints and a kilo of carrots a week now.

Smallish update

Ok, I have some small pieces of progress to report.

Dice

I've been given a rough estimate of the importing timeframe for the dice. They're supposed to reach the fulfillment centres in January. I really don't want to guarentee it because there's always the possibility of something unforseen happening. To be honest I'm really hoping it will be sooner, but again, I don't want to promise anything. The safety lab reccomended a couple of basic safety tests, which I've paid for, they should be in testing at the moment.

To try and use up the incomplete sets from the original sales of individual D20s and D6s, I'm slowly adding other individual dice to backerkit - there's currently D10s and D4s, I can add D12s and D8s as well if anyone is interested.

Custom colour Dragons

We are finishing up the first wave of Elder Dragon Bagons today. The next lot of cutting has not arrived yet so we'll move on to the second and third waves while we wait. The second and third waves combined do not make up the numbers for a full batch (we've worked out the ideal amount to get the most efficient process) so I've made up to 8 slots for custom colour Elder Dragon Bagons available to fill in the gaps. I'm offering those to the public at $220 NZD each, but if any backers want to add a last minute Elder Dragon Bagon to their order I'm happy to do that at the original KS price of $120, but I will need to know ASAP so we can get started.

I'll also be working the standard size custom colour Dragon Bagons in a similar fashion, filling gaps in the later batches, so it's hopefully limiting any impact on orders for backers.

Custom dragons

The scales I needed finally arrived! The courier company shipping them has had strikes, but even taking that into account it was a very long delay. In any case I should have enough metal scales to finish at least the first few custom dragons that have been sitting in pieces and staring at me.

Manufactured Dragon Bagons

I'm sending more photos and feedback to the manufacturer today. I'm hoping they can adjust the pattern while they look for new fabrics. The feedback I've had thus far seems to be that if they can't find a better fabric, then we should go for a soft felt (if possible), which I think is a sensible way to go.

Rainbow Dragons

I still can't talk about the details, but I'm sending a few secret parcels soon and I'm hoping to have an announcement within a month. I realise it's taking forever and I'm really sorry about it, I just really don't want to let all you rainbow fans down.

Dice and Custom orders

Ok, I've approved the multiset and sent the deposit. This version of the dice is a lot more than I was originally quoted (by different manufacturers who later fell through), so it's eaten up the contingencies I worked into the budget and then some.

Money is very tight at the moment, partly through delays and partly through stuff like the dice and needing to change manufacturers (meaning higher production costs). I'll be covering as much of the extra costs out of my own money as possible, but I'll need to reopen some custom order slots to help keep the lights on so to speak. I'm hoping the christmas rush will help clear out some spare stock we have, and bring in some more funds to keep us going. So if you see some of my pieces available please please please don't think I've forgotten you. We're still working on the campaign rewards, I'm just doing extra on top to try and ease the funds a bit.

Any new custom orders I take on will be at a higher price, the lower kickstarter prices were exclusive to the campaign (except the rainbows, which are exclusive to the campaign and the preorders), so others aren't getting a better deal than you lovely folks.

I really didn't want to reopen custom orders just yet, but at this point I feel like it's the best choice. I'm committed to finishing this project and making sure you lovely folks get your little beasties as soon as possible.

Remember, if you want to switch to a multiset, the sooner you let me know the better. Via kickstarter message or backerkit support is best for security.
