About 100 Days of Peoria
100 Days of Peoria began as a daily drawing project where I shared a new hand-lettered or illustrated design of a business, local attraction, event, or icon in Peoria, IL on Instagram.
The project ran for the first 100 days of 2017, at which time I had an artist residency at the Prairie Center of the Arts in Peoria's warehouse district. The art I created during my residency aimed to celebrate Peoria and generate more pride in the community.
After spending 200+ hours developing unique designs to represent the Peoria community, I brainstormed ways to provide an alternative format of this project so that it could serve as a snapshot of Peoria in 2017 and continue to generate positive conversations about the community. My vision for this campaign is to bring to life a square coffee-table book filled with the 130+ illustrations that I have developed over the past eight months so that the project can live on beyond the Internet and continue to positively impact the Peoria community.
Past Kickstarter Success
This is my second Kickstarter campaign. In March 2016, I successfully funded the printing and production of "Just my Type of Lettering: An Inspirational Guide to Hand Lettering." In just 30 days, 52 backers raised over $2,700 ($1,700 over my goal), enabling me to print over 200 copies of my book. This book truly kickstarted my career as a lettering artist and small business owner in Peoria, IL. As a potential backer of this project, you'll also be happy to know that I delivered ALL backer rewards for my last campaign on-time. Similar to my last campaign, I have already designed and illustrated the entire book, now I am just looking for funding so I can print it, which requires me to buy as many copies as I can upfront to get the best deal.
Projects of Earth
Kickstarter's launch of "Projects of Earth" inspired me to take my 100 Days of Peoria project to the next level because I truly want it to serve as a conversation piece for years to come. I feel a coffee-table book will allow this project to be a real snapshot of life in Peoria, Illinois in 2017.
Budget breakdown (for $2,835 funding goal)
- Book printing (50 copies, high quality) = $800
- Rewards (cards, stickers, art prints, screenprints) & Shipping = $400
- Kickstarter Fees (8-10%) = $120
- Additional copies 50 (total quantity of 100) = $650
- Additional copies 100 (total quantity of 200) = $515
- Hard cover = $350+ (SUPER Reach Goal, I found out it may double the price per copy, which may be out of reach this time)
Risks and challenges
The physical production of the books will be dependent on the printer and their availability. During the time between the end of the campaign and print production, I will continue to look for community partners to purchase additional copies to ensure the book makes the greatest possible positive impact on the community.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
