Expedition Unknown is a metroidvania style game that me and my wife are designing together.
For those unfamiliar with what metroidvania is, think of it as an action platformer with puzzle elements similar to the Nintendo classics "Metroid™" & "Castlevania™"
If you have already looked at the screenshots or watched the video allow me to explain a little The video is of an alpha build of the engine. The game will play different to what the video shows as it will be less about collecting gems and scoring points, but more about adventuring, finding new weapons and learning new skills to allow you to progress. The pixel art style will however remain the same, but with abit more polish.
I'd also like to note that the game is not only Egyptian themed and that's just one of many types of zones in the game, all with their own unique theme.
So what starts out as a simple adventure through an old Egyptian tomb will ultimately end up with you blasting big bosses of some ancient race with your newly found high-tech weaponry.
My name is Jason and I've been making games pretty much my whole life. It didn't start with computer games, but making games out of paper and designing board games etc. At around 11 years old is when got my first video game making software, with it I released many demos, engines and such, a few demos even made it to cover discs on gaming magazines.
I'm 25 now and live with my wife Rachael, we both enjoy gaming, drawing, cats and of course making games. I do the coding, and she does the artwork and it works for us.
I'm Rachael, i'm 25 and I do all the pixel art for the games. It tend to start with concept art that my husband draws and I work from there. I never really saw myself becoming an artist for a game, but there is just something really rewarding about seeing your artwork come to life. We have worked together on a few small games now using the same art style and its definitely a style we are sticking with.
I know this game is going to be a real strain on us, but it will be worth it.
With your kind and generous pledge we hope to finish production for the Windows release and then possibly move onto other formats such as Xbox live arcade, Windows Phone, iOS, and Mac.
The more we exceed our goal the more features we will try to add to the game.

Risks and challenges
I don't think I've ever worked on a project that didn't have it's down moments.
Sometimes sitting at a screen staring at the same thing for hours on end can drive you insane. But then there are the days where everything goes right and you get loads of work done and you feel you have really accomplished something great.
With the support of each other, our backers and the community i'm certain we can overcome any obstacle.
I'd also like to note that we will be updating this page and creating a blog so you can keep up to date with the games progress.
