This is what Smart Lighting is Supposed to be.
Lexi produces a broad range of Smart Lighting products. We are launching a select few on Kickstarter now.
We make 3 versions of each of these lights. The Kickstarter campaign features the Smart Color + Tunable White version, but as add-ons, you can purchase the other styles (Tunable White Only and Dimmable Warm White) as well.
We have already completed UL Certification for all the products we are preselling here and are ready to go into production immediately. Even the packaging is done!
Do you already own smart lights from another manufacturer? No problem, you can run those through the Lexi mobile app too! We are the first Smart Lighting company able to control third party lights as if they were our own.
Yes, of course you can use Lexi with your Smart Speakers!
Yes, you can go hubless with Lexi. In Hubless Mode, you can control on/off, brightness, color, color temperature, create groups and set schedules-all the basics essentially. And you can upgrade later to a hub.
So what does the hub get you? Interoperability with other smart lighting systems, all our light configurations-scenes, patterns, compositions & light shows, remote control of your lights over the web, our cloud reporting functionality and music synchronization to name just a few things.
To give you maximum flexibility, there are 4 HUB MODES:
- Full Hub - Interoperability, control of up to 500 lights (10x more than Philips), creation & operation of light shows, light compositions, cloud data, and reports
- Portable Hub – Same functionality as Full Hub less reporting and interoperability
- Remote Hub - Control all functionalities remotely via the web
- No Hub - More affordable and easier to operate but with limited functionality
You have the ability to share your light configurations with other Lexi users! We made it easy to share your scenes, light compositions and even Lightshows with anyone else on Lexi-your friends, your family-anyone who has the Lexi App. Just send them a link through the Lexi mobile App or they can copy and paste a link from an email.
Since our Hub is a USB Stick, its completely portable. Plug it into a Power Bank and away you go. Match that with the LED Candles & Tealights and you will be the life of the party!
Lexi is the first company to come out with smart versions of the very popular LED Tealights and LED Candles that work indoors and outdoors. You can use them on-the-go at weddings, graduations, birthdays, camping, romantic picnics, and more! Imagine the sceneries you could create in any space!
The Lexi Cloud is a collection of applications for managing all your devices (including 3rd party lights), configuring your home set up, reviewing your shares and optional near real time reporting on your lights. Most of this functionality is also available in the Mobile Apps, but we felt that some functionality was better served in a different form factor.
The right lighting can make you happier, help you study more effectively and even enable you to fall asleep more easily.
If you’ve ever noticed that you tend to feel energized and drowsy around the same times every day, you have your circadian rhythm to thank. Your circadian rhythm is a 24-hour internal clock that cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. And as it turns out "Light is by far the most important synchronizer of human circadian rhythms, or body clocks" according to Charles Czeisler, Director of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
In the morning, natural sunlight has a large amount of blue light waves. As the day progresses the quality of natural sunlight changes and by mid-day sunlight begins to take on warmer tones. This change in sunlight accelerates towards the end of the day and natural light shifts towards the red end of the color spectrum. Your brain has built in mechanisms that react to these different color “temperatures”. Blue light stimulates wakefulness, whereas the more reddish light at the end of the day encourages the release of melatonin which makes you sleepy.
Traditional lights are all set to one color “temperature” which are either too warm (more red) or too cool (more blue) depending upon the time of day you are using them. In addition, all of our electronic screens emit light that has a lot of blue in it, thus encouraging wakefulness. This is great in the morning, not so good at night.
Lexi offers three built in solutions to bring your Smart Lights in closer synchronization with your body clock.
1. Circadian Rhythm Specific Compositions. The Lexi Mobile Apps come with Specific Circadian Rhythm Compositions that you can apply to your lights right out of the box (with the exception of the Dimmable Warm White only lights).
2. Circadian Rhythm Overlays. You have the option in the Lexi Mobile Apps to check a box which will overlay Circadian Rhythm light programming to any Composition.
3. RedShift Overlay. You have the option in the Lexi Mobile Apps to check a box which will RedShift your lights in the evening to help prepare you for bed. As the name implies, this setting will subtly and gradually shift the color spectrum of your lights to prepare you for bed.
Choose your reward and we will send you a backer survey at the completion of the campaign where you'll be able to choose your bulb type. Thank you for your support!
In mid 2016 Scott’s mother was diagnosed with ALS. Within 6 months she was dead. During this brief 6-month period, Scott went through the typical thought process that often accompanies a huge life event. What was he doing in his life that mattered? His mother was a woman who spent all her free time pursuing her passions (largely sewing). What was Scott doing that he was passionate about and that mattered? He had been passionate about making light art so he settled on that.
On December 31st 2016, two months after his mother passed, Scott left his job and started teaching himself rubber molding and plastic casting to make his light art ideas. There was a lot of failure, in fact here is a picture of the very first attempted plastic casting (as you can see, it never made it out of the cup before it hardening right in the middle of the process of being poured).
Thirty days into the project it came to Scott, a serial entrepreneur, that this could be a company. At the same time, Scott had ordered an Arduino board and tutorial book in order to drive the LED matrices in his light art projects. It only took half a page until he realized that he needed to know the C programming language in order to do this. That was an undertaking that would not be completed anytime soon, so he contacted his former colleague Deepak Saxena and asked him if he knew C. “Sure”, he said- “Why do you ask?” “Well I have this idea...”
And Lexi was born.
So why does lighting matter? Well, lighting is the second biggest mood influencer after music. It can make your day, help you sleep, stimulate creativity, encourage relaxation-even pull you out of depression. It can also entertain, delight and wow you.
One of the guiding principles at Lexi is to ‘democratize’ great lighting so that everyone could easily benefit from positive state of mind that it creates. This is captured in our Mission Statement-enshrined in our very first product specification written in March 2017 just after Lexi was born. It reads-
In the coming months, we will be releasing different applications that will enable you to do amazing things with Lexi Lights. We literally can’t wait to show them to you!
Lexi began development over 2 years ago. Some of our lights are on their 5th version and all our products are on at least their 3rd version.
One product of which we are particularly proud is our USB Stick Hub. Here is the inside view of our 5th generation-
Beyond continuous technical improvements, we have always looked at how to increase the value of the product.
The LED Candle is a great example. Here are comparative images of V1 & V2. As is clear, we significantly increased the light output in V2-tripling it in fact.
In addition, we improved the light quality as we upgraded the LEDs. In the internal view of V1 & V2 below you can see these improvements.
All our lights have undergone extensive testing as well. Below is the photometric color range of the LED candle @4730K.
Risks and challenges
Bringing a product from the drawing board to reality is not an easy task. We’ve been fortunate enough to have the funds available to create production ready samples to make sure manufacturing runs smoothly. All that remains is to raise enough money so that we can green light the factory and begin production. With that said, there are always unforeseen events that can happen, however we will always do everything in our power to deliver what we promise. We wouldn’t bring this to Kickstarter if we weren’t completely confident that we could deliver a top quality product to our backers, on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
