Fireworks! Sparklers! Air conditioning! All things we indulged in this 4th of July, though, while the Macy's fireworks display is pretty awesome, it is not nearly as rad as the festive shirts the folks behind Lumi made for Independence Day. Hard to believe the fireworks on this sweet unitard were printed solely with sunlight, but, it's true!
While Jessie and Stephen were busy printing shirts with the sun, Breanne from Nails in the Key of Life came down to the Big Apple to show us firsthand that her project isn't just about getting your nails done. It's about creating an "intimate platform to exchange ideas and conversation." Spending the afternoon with Breanne, we spoke about the nature of art in the new millennium, how a nail is as much a blank canvas as a, err, blank canvas, and how the simple act of painting one's nails creates a unique bond between manicure-ee and the manicurist.
Are we not men?!?! That is a very good question, and one that conceptual pop auteurs Devo have been asking for some 30 odd years. Now, as we continue our devolution as humans, filmmaker Tony Pemberton is examining the group's dynamic history in this officially authorized documentary.
In the weeks leading up to Burning Man, another question arises, and we must ask ourselves, "Are we not unicorns?" Not the easiest question to answer, but a really simple way to find out is by watching the video for Charlie the Unicorn 3D Meadow Art Installation. Can you can relate to the protagonist? If yes, you are probably awesome. If not, click play again.
