Thanks a billion

Hi everybody,

This morning at 4:03am, the one billionth dollar was pledged to a Kickstarter project. You read that right: as of today, more than $1,000,000,000 has been pledged to projects on Kickstarter. Whoa!

This milestone is an achievement of many, not a few. Millions of people from around the world made this happen. Congrats to all of you!

To celebrate, we built a really fun feature exploring the $1 billion pledged to Kickstarter projects. There’s even a cool map you should definitely mouse over.

So what does it say that $1 billion has been pledged to Kickstarter projects?

It says that we’re excited by new ideas.

It says that we believe in each other.

It says that there’s more art and culture in the world than ever before.

It says that we’re a part of something bigger, something great.

It says that we’re not satisfied with the status quo.

It says that we can all create amazing things.

So cheers from all of us at Kickstarter! Congrats and thanks to our community, our friends, our families, and to the whole entire internet for making this possible. You guys are the best.

Does last month's security breach seem to have had any effect on business? I hope not. I expect not, since many web sites have had a similar problem in a worse way. At least you didn't leak any credit card information.

Wow, just wow.... so awesome! So proud of the internet and you guys! Great!

Good question, Andrew. We have seen no ill effects on people using the system since the breach. In fact, numbers across the board are *up*. We're of course continuing to closely monitor the reaction and work with people who have questions. We'll be making a few forward-facing security updates to Kickstarter in the coming weeks as well.

I admit to refreshing the stats page repeatedly to try to see if I could catch the billionth dollar come in. I am sad to say that I had to sleep in order to earn the money needed to back more projects!

      Congratulations to all!
