Introducing Guest Pledging

At Kickstarter, we’re always looking for new ways to support creative projects. Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of Guest Pledging. Pledging to a project used to mean that new users had to register for a Kickstarter account, which may have been a hurdle for some new backers. With the launch of Guest Pledging, people who choose not to create an account now have the option to pledge as a Guest, giving creators the opportunity to reach a whole new audience of supporters.
One of the best things about supporting creators on Kickstarter is getting a behind-the-scenes look at the project as it takes shape, and Guest backers get to follow along like anyone else. In addition, they’ll receive creator messages, project updates, and reward surveys like all backers.
If you try to back a project while logged out, you'll be directed to a page where you can either log in or continue as a guest.
Once you've pledged as a Guest you'll have the opportunity to complete your account registration. This gives you the ability to adjust your pledge, the option to save payment details for future pledges, and the opportunity to connect with fellow backers in the project’s comments.
Remaining a Guest is cool, too. Just look to your email for a confirmation of your pledge and future updates about the project from the creator.
When a Guest pledges to a project, Creators can handle communication and fulfillment the same way they have in the past. In the Creator Dashboard and Backer Report, a backer who pledges as a guest will display as “Guest” with a string of numbers. This naming format allows Creators to differentiate between Guest backers, and also helps with any conversations they might have with our Support team about a specific backer.
Starting today, Guest Pledging is available for projects in the Dance, Journalism, Theater, and Craft categories. We’ll gradually expand to more categories in the coming weeks, and soon all new backers will have the option to pledge as a Guest.
With this launch we’re excited to give backers more flexibility when supporting projects. We are always looking for ways to make it a little simpler for more people, and more ideas, to thrive on Kickstarter.
