…Buenos Aires’ ZZK scene, where traditional cumbia rhythms are re-envisioned for the digital age, forging new paths for tropical music and helping to ensure the longevity of an important Latin cultural art. - Julianne Escobedo Sheperd – Fader Magazine
ZZK helped create a niche and then became the dominant player in a musical style that no one knew existed but everyone desperately needs. To be certain, electronic cumbia has been around for some time. It just didn't have a voice or the force behind it that ZZK has given it, with its daunting, epic, slow and hard punctuations of percussion and bass. - Derek Beres – Huffington Post
The Zizek musicians and DJs are producing some of the most progressive sounds in Latin America today, leaders of the global dance craze known as Cumbia Digital, a modern take on the percussive African rhythm developed in Colombia 2 centuries ago. - Brian Byrnes - CNN
ZZK artists have been fortunate to be recognized as pioneers of mixing digital music with traditional South American rhythms; pushing stereotypes, expanding minds, and creating a movement to change Argentine collective consciousness. The ZZK sound brings traditional and indigenous sounds to life. As opposed to seeing ancient rhythms and recordings as more artifacts in a museum, ZZK artists are appropriating traditions to our generation present in the 21st century. Trailblazing with their innovative sounds abroad, and crossing paths with musicians all over the world that are creating similar collectives in their own countries, ZZK TV hopes to explore this worldwide phenomenon by engaging viewers in an exclusive behind the scenes view into the future of the music industry, as it’s being created.
ZZK TV Season 1 was selected to be shown at a documentary festival in Ecuador & linked in blogs and magazines all around South America and the world. Since its inception in 2008, ZZK has been at the forefront of digital arts and culture in South America. We have watched it expand over time and have been amazed to feel this medium empower creative artists all around the continent and the world, pushing music into the 21st century.
We are looking to build upon ZZK TV as a medium of communication, promotion and interaction with our fans and peers. We have big plans for the future of ZZK TV and know that the platform is being laid, brick by cyber brick.
The inaugural episode (July 2010) looked like this:
Billboard magazine had this to say about ZZK TV Season 1.
ZZK TV SEASON 2 - IN PRODUCTION
On our last European tour, where we were invited to participate in a cultural exchange between the cities of Buenos Aires and Paris, we took along ZZK TV director Mariela Bond to capture the moments, life on the road, and dive a bit deeper into the impact that South American music is having in Europe.
We spoke to DJs, musicians, promoters, and of course the ZZK boys, to get their impressions on how an emerging music scene from Buenos Aires could have an impact on places like Copenhagen, Rome, Paris and Berlin.
We now want to produce these ZZK TV episodes and give them wings. We want to bring you behind the scenes with us, meet the protagonists, and join us on our journey to explore ZZK and the spread of this new musical phenomenon worldwide through the power of video and the internet.
We're looking for the money involved to cover our costs: Equipment, post-production, editing.
Thank you for your support!
