Update #10: Down to the wire and far from the goal.
34 hours I believe? Several thousand dollars stand between me and my goal.
We'll continue to try to get Zombie Fortress completed regardless of how the Kickstarter turns out. Though it will probably take longer.
Win or lose I think I've learned some valuable things in this attempt. I'm happy to have tried and I'll be happy to try again, regardless of success.
34 hours left. It could still happen! Optimism!
Update #9: The Zombie Fortress Contest
Hello everyone,
I'm having a contest on Facebook and Twitter! It's called the "Bring Horace Home" Contest. Horace, as you may know from previous updates, is the plush zombie I created to give away to backers. Right now you have a chance to win one of two that I will be giving away on March 12. For all the contest rules and details on how to enter, check out the contest webpage: http://www.firebongo.com/zombiefortress/contest.php

Update #8: Plush Zombie
I've completed one of the plush zombies. I will use this as the prototype for all the future plush zombies and scale it down to make the MiniZom key chains.
I've named him Horace.
Check out more pictures of Horace, as well as previous plush zombie prototypes, on the Zombie Fortress Facebook page.

Update #7: 60 days
Hey everyone, it's been a while since I put up a project update, so here's one.
I've been sewing and illustrating, working on my plush zombies, making stuff for the Facebook page, talking to a lot of zombie fans and blog-havers. I've been mentioned on several zombie sites, which I posted about on the Facebook page, which you should check out if you haven't already. Even if you have you might want to go back, because I just put up pics of plush zombie prototypes. Check it out!

Update #6: Facebook page
Update #5: Official Zombie Fortress webpage!
Yesterday I uploaded a webpage I made for Zombie Fortress to my website. I based it on one of those old ads from comicbooks in the 50's where children have supposedly made tons of money, or got these great prizes, for selling magazines or Christmas cards or something.
My Grandfather used to have a bunch of old comics from the 50’s, and I was convinced that I was going to sign up for one of those things and get a microscope or something. I also tried to buy a hermit crab from an ad in one of those comics, (how did they mail live hermit crabs?)
Maybe it's because of my grandfather that I like that 50's style so much. I used to go over to his house and watch the Disney Channel, back before cable, when satellites were the size of VW Bugs. The old Disney stuff had a lot of the voice over, like the Goofy sports cartoons, and all that life of tomorrow stuff.
In any case, that’s what came to me while I was working on the video for my Kickstarter, but I was a little worried, because I don’t really plan for the game itself to have a 50’s feel.
It was when I was thinking about the maps for the game that I realized how I could work it all together. I planned to have the first map be an airfield; I wanted a big open space. I thought, there probably wouldn’t be a whole lot of air traffic during a zombie plague, if people were smart enough to try to keep it from spreading any faster. I also thought, these fortresses would probably take some time to build. So what better place than an airfield where there are fences already built around the area to hold back the zombies while they build the fortress?
That’s when I thought, what if they don’t build the whole thing starting when the plague starts. The people are obviously proactive enough to make videos and put out ads. They could start building the underground portion of the fortress now, and then seal them up. In the event of a zombie plague they would then just need to add the bunker and connect it to the underground portion.
Therefore, in the world I’m creating, the people decided zombies were a realistic threat in the 50’s, they built the lower portions of fortresses all over, then sealed them, waiting for zombies. That way everything pertaining to the fortresses can be from the fifty’s while the actual game cane take place at any time.
Good, I’m glad we got that figured out.

P.S. At the bottom of the webpage you might notice the list of people who are ready for the zombie plague, this is where I've put PERSONAL GLORY for the time being. If you qualify for PERSONAL GLORY, and you don't like how I have your name, whether you don't want your full name, or you do want your full name, or you want your actual name instead of your KS screen name, or you don't actually want PERSONAL GLORY. let me know. Thanks!
Update #4: 200 2day?
Hey Folks,
I think I got no new backers yesterday. That's no good.
I have been contacting zombie fan sites, one of them has said they will link to me. One said that they will put something about my project in their next newsletter. The newsletter doesn't come out until the end of Feb, but that's still a month before the deadline and it's got something like 8500 subscribers, so that's cool.
I've set up a Zombie Fortress Twitter account, @zombiefortress, where I spout nonsense about the project, my progress, and zombies. Set it up yesterday, got nine followers already. (Is that good?) If you have a Twitter account, come follow me!
The website is in the works, and I'm still mid plush zombie (those little buggers can bite surprisingly hard!)
I'm 27 dollars away from $200. That's not a lot. I'm going to see if I can get to at least 200 today, please help anyway you can.
Talk to you soon,
Rick

I'll plug this tonight in a little zombie CYOA game I'm running on a forum. Because, I mean, zombies? Yes. Awesome. Hopefully it helps, Rick!

Pledge $1 or more
PERSONAL GLORY –- For a minimum pledge of one dollar your name will go… somewhere. Either on a thank you screen in the game, or on the game’s website (Also coming soon). I haven't figured it out yet, but it will be one of those places, and that’s pretty cool. So cool that you would probably feel pretty bad about only spending a single dollar on such an honor (not that I’d turn down your dollar.)
Pledge $10 or more
CONGRATULATIONS ON SURVIVING THE ZOMBIE PLAGUE -- For a minimum pledge of ten dollars I’ll get you a copy of the game once it’s out. You will also receive PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $25 or more
WATCH OUT FOR THE LITTLE ONES -- For a minimum pledge of twenty-five dollars I'll send you a MiniZom keychain. These little guys are hand sewn mini versions of the plush zombie, perfect for dangling from your keys, your rear-view mirror, or just about any other dangle source. I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $30 or more
THEY CAN GET IN THROUGH THE MAIL SLOT! -- For a minimum pledge of thirty dollars, I will send you a set of 5 paper zombies! These zombies will be professionally printed (in color!) on nice cardstock and mailed to you for you to cut out, fold, and glue together to have your very own paper zombie mini hoard! I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $40 or more
SNACKS FOR THE TRIP –- For a minimum pledge of forty dollars I will send you the set of 5 paper zombies (see above), AND a set of 5 paper people! Some of these people will probably be dead, and partially eaten, so that should be fun… I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $50 or more
ZOMBIE PRIDE -– For a minimum pledge of fifty dollars you can show your zombie pride with our lovely zombie T-shirt. It will say to the world, “Hey, World, I feel a way about zombies.” And you choose the size! Small, medium, large, extra large, all the best sizes, as long as it’s one of those. I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $55 or more
WE'RE DIFFERENT! -- For a minimum pledge of fifty-five dollars I’ll send you the set of 5 paper people (see above) and the set of 5 paper zombies (see higher above) AND a set of 5 variants of figures from the first two sets! Cool! Neat! Rare! (Unless everyone goes for this pledge level, then they are just cool and neat.) I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $70 or more
ZOMBIES HAVE NEVER BEEN SO SOFT… – For a minimum pledge of seventy dollars I will send you a hand sewn, plush zombie. These zombies have a secret, magnetic, feature! Perfect for you AND your zombie loving loved ones! (That’s right; find a way to pledge twice!) I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $75 or more
YOU KNOW WHAT I’D REALLY LIKE TO KILL A ZOMBIE WITH? -- At one time or another I’m sure we’ve all thought, “The crowbar is the obvious choice for killing zombies in close quarters, but for long range what we really need some is kind of crowbar gun!” Do you have a really great/crazy idea for a zombie-killing weapon? Well now’s your chance to see that idea in action! For a minimum bid of seventy-five dollars you can design a weapon for the game. Your weapon will be released in a free weapon pack or as part of a game update. Don’t choose crowbar gun though, because I already called it. The weapon will have to work for the game, so if you think up something that we can’t make work, I’ll work with you to tweak it so that it will. Also, let’s keep it clean, OK? I can’t personally think of an obscene way to kill a zombie, but I’m also not trying. I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $90 or more
ZOMBIE DUO… – For a minimum pledge of ninety dollars I will send you a hand sewn, plush zombie and the zombie keychain. The plush zombie has a secret, magnetic, feature! I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $140 or more
ZOMBIE HOARD – For a minimum pledge of one hundred and fifty dollars I will send you the paper zombies, the paper people, the variant paper figures, AND the plush zombie! With that many zombies hanging around your house, my friend, there is very little chance of your survival. I will also get you a copy of the game, and PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $240 or more
ZOMBIES, THE T-SHIRT, AND EVERYTHING – For a minimum pledge of two hundred and fifty dollars you get it all. I will send you the set of 5 paper zombies, the set of 5 paper people, the set of 5 paper variants, the zombie T-shirt, the plush zombie, you can make a weapon for the game, and I will get you a copy of the game, AND PERSONAL GLORY!
Pledge $1,000 or more
HEAD SHOT – Hey, crazy rich people (and crazy, rich people) cruising Kickstarter, looking to blow someone’s mind by dumping a huge wad of cash on them. I know you’re out there… Pick me. You won’t get anything more than the two hundred and fifty dollar guy, but who cares?!?! You’re RICH! (And possibly crazy?)

Rick Marson, much like MC Hammer, is a super dope homeboy from the Oaktown, and likes to tell people so. People are usually embarrassed for him, but you probably think it's a cool and interesting fact. Rick doesn't live there anymore though. He moved away when he was three.
As a child Rick wanted to be the next Walt Disney, a cartoonist and theme park owner. Later he decided that he would rather be a comic book writer and artist. Then he went to college to get a degree in fine art. Instead he got a degree in graphic design, and became a web designer for 8 years.
After taking some time off to travel, he began working on ideas for video games, which led to the whole ZOMs idea.
Rick is a fan of books, movies, video games, comics, zombies, and writing about himself in third person.
