The Zero One Mandate: A New SciFi Franchise
Between Zero and One There are Infinite Possibilities.
Zero One is the Science Fiction feature film debut of writer / Director Kareem N. Gray.
The film follows Devon Owens; a man that has discovered something amazing hidden in the data streams of the internet. We follow Devon as he becomes something greater. He becomes the hero an unsuspecting world needs.
Originally from Plainfield, NJ. I became interested in filmmaking at a very young age. It has been a lifelong passion to create stories and share them with audiences. I believe every great film starts with the script because it is the foundation for the film. It seems that many have forgotten this and have let special effects and flashy camera work tell the stories a solid script should. I want to stay true to my audience by providing thoughtful, smart, and entertaining content. That is what Zero One the movie did, and that is what The Zero One Mandate television series will do.
Why I Love Dallas -
Why we need you:
We need your backing to help us get The Zero One Mandate developed and shot. We are working hard to transition the film into a television show. The Zero One Mandate will be presented cable television and other outlets. We have production companies that love the idea and have made commitments to provide matching funds. We are also being gifted many production services in order to help make our pilot a huge success. We need your backing to ensure we have the additional resources to make The Zero One Mandate a home run.

The Zero One Mandate Cast Update #4 Farley Jackson: Devon Owens.
We are excited to announce one of the most exciting changes to the production.
Farley Jackson steps into the role of Devon. His powerful screen presence and physical intensity
compliments the increased action that will be seen in The Zero One Mandate. We are pleased to have him on board.
Farley Jackson is an accomplished athlete and actor with appearances
on several television shows such as "Cold Case" and "All My Children"
along with roles in films including "Waist Deep," "Joshua, The Heart
of a Warrior," "Where Love is Waiting," "Blue," "Toe to Toe", and
"Watch Out for Slick".
Jackson has just booked a role on "Off Their
Rockers" starring Betty White! Jackson is gearing up for his roles in
both the feature film "Wingman Inc" written by Tony Germinario,
Directed by Choice Skinner and Starring Brandon Heitkamp, and

Television serial, The Zero One Mandate and is thrilled and feels highly

The Zero One Mandate Cast Update #3 - Monica Peña: Ingrid Taurus
Monica will be reprising her role as Ingrid, but this time around she gets a last name! Ingrid is helping Devon uncover the conspiracy that threatens the world. Her military and law enforcement training will be front and center as the team confronts their enemies.
Ingrid was introduced late in the film and had to be believable as a mysterious woman in red, and then quickly transition to a woman of power and authority. Monica did a fantastic job making the character believable and true. Monica had a great sense of who Ingrid was, and asked all of the right questions. As a director, you need to know how to communicate with your actor(s), and I learned how to communicate better by working with Monica. I often caught myself stating the obvious when giving direction. Monica, being the true professional she is would simply nod in agreement. Basically, Monica did her work and required very little direction. I realized I was stating the obvious on many occasions, the joke became, "water is wet, fire is hot."
When I created the character of Ingrid I was confident she would be believable. I was aware of the tough as nails, beautiful warrior woman cliche' we see in Hollywood films, but I had created Ingrid from personal experience. You see, my cousin, Olinka is a Major in the United States Army. She is she is smart, beautiful, and most of all a true patriot. Ingrid was modeled after her and it came naturally for me to create a strong female character that was believable.
At the time I wrote Zero One, Olinka was a Captain who had just ended her tour in Operation Enduring Freedom. Olinka is tough as nails, can hold her own, and is the person you want at your back when things go down. She gave me great inspiration for the character of Ingrid, and as the saying goes, "You ain't seen nothing yet."

Crew Update #2 - Dustin Jacobson: Post Supervisor
Dustin did extensive additional editing and the sound design for Zero One, and I'm pleased that he will be coming back to work on The Zero One Mandate. I met Dustin via an ad I placed on Craig's List. I was looking for someone to sound design the film, and tighten up some editing in the process. He took on that role and then some when we realized the film needed to be cut down considerably.
With Dustin's help I was able to trim the fat and move the story along. Dustin also helped design the voice for the character of Zero One, which was no easy feat since we had Zero One start off extremely mechanical, with the intention of evolving him into a more human voice. The final product was far more than I could have imagined.
Being the true audiophile he is, he made great choices with the placement of the original score which was composed by Aaron Fryklund, and the original songs provided be Texas Band Exit 380.
Dustin's hard work and talent is on display in Zero One, and I'm pleased to be working with him on The Zero One Mandate.
Casting Update #2 Jeff Hoferer: Kyle Manning
Jeff will reprise his role as Kyle Manning, the lighthearted, always optimistic friend of Devon. In the Zero One Mandate Kyle must come to grips with the reality of a changing world and sacrifices everything he knows and loves to help Devon stop the plans of those who would threaten the lives of his wife and child.
When the character of Kyle was written I had one goal in mind; I wanted the audience to say: "I want that guy as a friend." Kyle is the guy you can count on and trust without question. Jeff brought an incredible mix of seriousness and humor to the role of Kyle which made the character true. I enjoyed working with Jeff because he worked to make the character better than I had envisioned him.
Jeff also made great suggestions in order to make scenes flow better. At one point I really didn't know exactly how to define the character, and had difficulty communicating my ideas. Jeff, in all seriousness said to me, "So, you want to see more Jar-Jar Binks and less Steve Stiffler or less Jar-Jar and more Stiffler?" I sat for a long moment and thought about what he just said. He was right, I was making Kyle into a one dimensional trope: The wacky best friend. This was a long running joke on set. Jeff would occasionally look at me and say, "More Jar-Jar on this one?" I would respond, "Let's bring a little Stiffler into this." Good times.
Together we defined the character and got the real Kyle Manning. The guy you want to have a beer with, who also happens to the same guy you want to have your back while saving the world.
CASTING UPDATE #1 Jay Prichard: Zero One
Jay Prichard is the voice behind the machine. He reprises his role as Zero One in The Zero One Mandate. The search for the voice of Zero One was a long process. In fact, we did not cast Jay until the film was already close to its final edit.
When I created the character of Zero One, I knew I wanted to have a mixture of Mr. Spock, Data From Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Johnny 5. Yes, Johnny 5 from Short Circuit. I wanted Zero One the character to be innocent, endearing, likable, funny, and somewhat threatening. Jay's talents helped me achieve that goal, which changed Zero One from a talking computer into a complex character.
All of Jay's dialogue was recorded in one day. He gave me many options to use in the final cut of the film and helped flesh out the character even further with his unique insight and professionalism. I'm looking forward to working with Jay again, and I hope you are looking forward to the success of The Zero One Mandate.
The Zero One Mandate Crew Update #1
Ron Gonzalez: Director Of Photography.
Ron will be coming back to shoot the pilot episode of The Zero One Mandate, and hopefully other episodes. If you have seen Zero One, you already know why this will be the case. Ron came onto the production pretty late, but slid into his position quickly and efficiently. Ron knew exactly what to do and what workflow to follow in order to save the production both time and money. We had 18 days to shoot 126 pages each page of a script equals to about a minute of screen time. We had long friggin' movie.
I remember Ron cringing when he saw the length of the script. I eventually cut out about 5 pages, but was adamant we would have more options if we shot as much of the script as possible. Since the script was dialogue heavy and did not require as many setups since the locations were minimal, Ron scratched his head and said, "Yeah, we can do it."
Eventually, we cut out many scenes and shortened others to economize the film and pick up the pace of the narrative. With Ron's guidance in post, we went from 113 minutes to 103 minutes, down to our current runtime of 99 minutes.
Ron also eased my fears about the equipment we were using. We shot Zero One with the Panasonic HVX - 200 using the Letus 35mm adapter. I was worried the camera and adapter would not give me the film look I wanted, but any doubts I had went away the moment I saw the first shot on the monitor.
A director needs a DP he can trust, rely on, and collaborate with.I got all of that from Ron and then some. During the shoot, everyone had some sort of doubt about the final product, we were moving fast, doing things by the seat of our pants, lacking essential resources, but Ron helped make sure we got what we needed to make a great film. He will be back to help make The Zero One Mandate a knockout.
