Update #14: Hurricane vs CD
First, the bad news: our CD release concert is cancelled.
Hurricane Irene is set to pass over Lexington, MA throughout Sunday. Our CD release concert is cancelled and we will try to reschedule in September. If you live in the area be safe tomorrow.
And now the good news: we have 500 copies of our CD in hand!
We will mail out signed CDs Monday (to avoid the hurricane) and make MP3 downloads available as soon as possible. Starting next week CDs will go on sale through www.zachherchen.com. In the meantime you can check out our CD cover (attached).
We are incredibly excited to have the CD done, love the all the commissioned pieces, and can't wait to share it with you!
Update #13: CD Release - Aug 28!
We've been working hard these last 2 months rehearsing, meeting with composers, getting licenses, recording, editing, designing the CD layout, and even moving to new apartments! Now, with only 16 days left, the CD release is almost upon us!
Join us for the official CD release Sunday, August 28th 2pm at Follen Church (755 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA). Tickets are $10. We will be giving the world premieres of music by American composers Kathleen Bader, Adam Knauss and George Lam that you helped commission! There will be a reception in the Community Center afterward and (of course) CDs available for purchase.
If you can't make it to Lexington, don't fret. We are booking concerts for our CD tour right now and will announce dates when they are ready. Check our website for the latest info: http://emergingvoicesproject.blogspot.com/.
But wait, don't you get awesome awards? That's right! Downloads will be sent via emailed link and CDs will be mailed straight to you. Custom songs are wrapping up and will be emailed as soon as possible (they are completely awesome). DVDs will be finished after the CD release. For other individual awards, you will be contacted by email.
We can't wait to share with you the results of our work!
-Elisabeth + Zach
Update #12: Rehearsing, Recording, and Music Written!
Greetings EVP supporters,
It's time to break radio silence! We have been hard at work the last two months and now it is high time for an update:
Coaching With Lori Laitman - We traveled to Potomac, MD in April to work with composer Lori Laitman on her piece I Never Saw Another Butterfly. Elisabeth and I first performed her piece 7 years ago and it was awesome to finally meet her in person!
Recording Has Started - Through March we made test recordings and started to official recording! Up next is rehearsing and recording Adam Knauss' new work during May.
Music In Hand - Our original three commissioned composers have finished writing and we now have all the music for our CD in hand! The new pieces are Adam Knauss' Portrait, Kathleen Bader's Two Songs for the Sounds Outside, and George Lam/Benjamin Rogers' The Person In The Room Wishes To Be Left Alone. Detailed info will be shared on our blog as we record each piece.
Guggenheim Fellowship for Amy Beth Kirsten - Congratulations to our fourth composer Amy Beth Kirsten who was named a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow in April. Amy joined our project through your generous support and is writing us a piece to be completed in the Fall.
Tour Plans - We are narrowing down CD tour dates! As soon as things are official we will announce the dates/locations.
Custom Songs - For those of you awarded custom songs, we are working on them! You will be sent your song as soon as it's ready.
Finally, thanks for your support. Attached are pictures from recent activities. We don't want to spam you with updates, so if you would like more regular news check out our blog: http://emergingvoicesproject.blogspot.com/
