Yellingham is a 3 day all-ages, all-inclusive DIY music festival in the "city of due excitement," Bellingham WA.
Yellingham is a three day, all-ages, all-inclusive, DIY music festival in Bellingham, WA. Now in it's third year, we are building off the success of the first two festivals, which brought a total of over 50 bands together for three days of music in living rooms and parks around our town. We do not operate as a business. Every dollar we spend either comes out of our own pockets or is donated by the community. There is no profit, all money raised goes straight to the bands playing. No nonsense, only good sense.
NOTE: If we pass our $500 goal, it means more money for bands who come to the festival. If this kickstarter is a success don't think that because we've hit $500 we can't use your help. Donations over the $500 mark help guarantee that we have a better reputation with bands who play, making Yellingham more likely to continue in future years. Thanks for Donating!
How Yellingham Came To Be...Yellingham started as a group of friends who wanted to bring all-ages music back to Bellingham.
With only one all-ages venue in town and most live music taking place in 21+ bars, a group of Western Washington University students and Bellingham community members came together to create an event that welcomed musicians and fans of all ages and persuasions. The first festival was an ambitious undertaking. Calling on all of their connections to local music, and using their houses as venues for the event, Yellingham's volunteers and coordinators booked over 30 bands to play a total of 7 shows over the weekend of April 16th, 17th, and 18th. The concerts were staffed by the volunteers who planned the festival and who made sure that the atmosphere was cohesive with the all-ages motto: No Booze, No Drugs, No Jerks. Dozens of people came to the event, money was raised to pay the bands, and the all-ages ethos was upheld.
Building off the success of the previous year, past volunteers and new members met to plan the second Yellingham festival in 2011. The festival grew after it's first year, with Yellingham 2011 showcasing over 40 bands of more diverse genres playing 13 shows over three days in April. The second year saw more attendees, more donations, and a wider variety of musical genres and styles. The community was excited about what Yellingham offered, and the festival was again a huge success.
And we're still growing. This year Yellingham is bringing the Bellingham community more shows, more bands, and is including local all-ages community organizations WhAAM and Make.Shift to help make Yellingham 2012 as much of a success as in previous years. We're still donation based, anti-profit, all-inclusive, and all-ages. And we'll still make you pancakes in the morning. Everyone involved with Yellingham is looking forward to an exciting festival here in the City of Due Excitement. See you in April!
