We publish strange forms: glossaries, epigrams, lists, flashes. With innovative design and quirky narratives, it's weird by definition.
(quick-note: the green face/sketch above is by Numa Amun, a Canadian artist, and may be used as the cover of our next issue)
IMPORTANT UPDATE: EVERY BACKER OF OUR PROJECT WILL GET OUR AWESOME CUSTOM POSTCARDS, SENT TO YOUR DOOR PRE-STAMPED FOR YOU TO SEND TO SOMEONE YOU LOVE OR HATE.
It is low-brow if you read it that way, it is high-brow if you read it that way. We want to hijack your internal narrative, get you out of your life for a bit and into something else.
- Our "mission statement" which opens every issue of theNewerYork reads:
- Man's a strange animal, and makes strange use
- Of his own nature, and the various arts,
- And likes particularly to produce
- Some new experiment to show his parts;
- This is the age of oddities let loose.
-Lord Byron
This is our experiment. We publish lists, fictional glossaries, internet forums, classified ads, post-cards, love letters, aphorisms, fragments, punctuationless stories, upside down stories, and other absurdities.
Our first issue, which was funded on Kickstarter, turned out wonderful, our second issue will be exponentially better. Having established a strong distribution base in independent bookstores and boutiques in New York City, Los Angeles, and Paris (see our website for details) as well as a good relationship with writers and printers, this next issue will have higher quality writing, higher quality art, and twice the amount of narratives.
For submissions we place ads in newspapers, online, in cafes, with stickers, over Twitter and also search through short fiction blogs. Our writers and artists come from all over the world.
We will print about 2000 copies total, depending on pricing. Estimated cost, $5,700. The rest of the money will be used to pay for some rights to art, shipping rewards, design costs and LAUNCHING A NEW WEBSITE.
Ask us any questions you might have. We thank you very much for your continued support and hope you love the mag.
The book is printed by Brio Books in Minneapolis and the e-book is made using Folium Book Studio and is sold through Paypal, Amazon, and Google.
FAQ

Not as of now but hopefully for future issues. All artists and writers get to submit their own bio-blurb and put in their desired contact info. Also, theNewerYork does not ask for or retain any rights to the submitted work, so contributors may do as they wish with their work elsewhere. We want theNewerYork to be a stage for writers who wish to experiment with form, so we can help each other spring those forms, and conceptual literature, into the mainstream.
With extra Kickstarter money we hope to launch an online store to sell artwork and merchandise, we intend to split profits with the authors and artists.

Our mag will be available in print, PDF, and e-pub formats. However, our graphic design messes with the printed word often requiring you to turn the book sideways or upside down, these quirks come across only dimly with a PDF and almost not at all with the e-pub. Both electronic editions will be readable and enjoyable, but theNewerYork is in many ways a print only magazine. In the future we hope to offer a discount to people who have purchased the digital editions and would like to see them in print.
