Update #7: The E-reader Edition
Update #6: The Mexican Drug War Issue is Live
Dear Backers,
I wanted to let you know that the Mexican Drug War Issue of Words without Borders is now live on our site: http://wordswithoutborders.org/issue/march-2012. Once again, many, many thanks to all who contributed to this amazing project. I encourage you to share your thoughts on the issue with us in the comments section of this update. For those of you who asked to receive an EPUB file, those will be sent in a weeks or two. We are still tweaking the cover template.
Best,
Joshua
Update #5: Well that teaches me to be pessimistic . . .
Dear Everyone,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We hit our $10,000 goal and have fully funded the March 2012: Mexican Drug War Issue. Almost $6,000 raised in a single 24 hour period thanks to our board of directors and their generous support I work for a truly incredible organization.
Late today I will be sending out the surveys for those of you who have asked to receive a reward. It will be sent from Kickstarter so please keep an eye out. Once again, many thanks.
Best,
Joshua Mandelbaum

Hi Joshua,
Imagine my surprise when I got an email from Amazon saying they’d billed me for your project. After all, it wasn’t that long ago I sent a donation in response to your email saying you wouldn’t make your goal, and could we donate through another avenue. Fortunately, I hadn’t pledged so much that donating twice would break the bank. But I do feel misled.

Oops, poking around your website, I found "Update 4," which didn't make it to my inbox. I see you addressed the issue of donating twice. This blog doesn't allow deletes or edits, though, and electronic recalls are silly. Thanks.

Hi Beth,
I actually sent you an e-mail on Sunday asking about how you'd like to proceed. I'll go ahead and refund your Paypal donation.
Many thanks for your support.
Best,
Joshua

Update #4: So, I guess we're not going to get to $10,000
Update #3: EPUB files for everyone
Dear Friends,
We clearly missed the obvious on Friday when we offered an EPUB file at the $5 level but did not offer it at the other levels. That has changed. At all levels we are now offering an optional EPUB file of the Mexican Drug War Issue. If we're successful we'll ask you in the survey if you'd like the file e-mailed to you.
Best,
Joshua

Connected as Joshua Mandelbaum (230 friends)
Words without Borders translates, publishes, and promotes the finest contemporary international literature. Every month, on our online magazine, we publish eight to ten new works by international writers. We have published works by Nobel Prize winner J.M.G Le Clézio, Herta Müller, Mahmoud Darwish, Etgar Keret, Per Petterson, Fadhil Al-Azzawi, W.G. Sebald, and Ma Jian, as well as many new and rising international writers. Since 2003 we have published well over 1200 pieces from 114 countries and ninety languages.
In addition to producing the magazine, we have partner with publishing houses to release five print anthologies, the most recent being Tablet & Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East (W.W. Norton and Company, 2010).
Finally, Words without Borders is building an education program in order to expose students at both the high school and college levels to a broader spectrum of contemporary international literature.
