UPDATE #3 We've added samples of our laser engraving that will be available on our Wüdskins. We can customize any design and will have several stock choices available. UPDATE #2 We have been invited to the TEDxUF lab to showcase our Wüdskins product on February 26th in Gainesville, FL. We're thrilled with this opportunity to participate at the exclusive invitation only event showcasing Technology, Entertainment and Design.

UPDATE We will have a Wüdskins case for the next generation iPad and we are working diligently behind the scenes to be able to get the new cases out quickly after the iPad 2 is launched. Our Project - We set out to design an iPad case with a sleek, sustainable and contemporary medium with uncompromised strength and durability. Our Wüdskins case offers maximum protection and versatility with its bamboo/aluminum design and friction hinge. The engineering of the friction hinge allows our case to be placed in the perfect viewing position on surfaces such as glass. Two main priorities that drive our company is making our case with superior products and keeping production in the US by having our cases hand made by local craftspeople. The picture to the left shows the ipad totally secure in the case opening. If you watch the video, you see Dawn shaking the case up and down and the ipad never moves.

Our design process started back in mid August 2010 when Christina, our IT guru, purchased an iPad. After using the iPad and seeing the vulnerability of the display, our team started looking at materials that would offer the most protection. As we moved through the design process we also started looking at how to add versatility by rotating the case cover a full 360 degrees and the ability for the case to stand for movie viewing or boardroom presentations. The friction hinges used in our case are installed in various brand name laptop screens. They provide constant torque throughout its full range of motion and have the ability to hold our case at various positions. The working prototype in the video is machined but to get the aluminum spine smaller and more rounded as shown in the CAD drawings, we have to use the casting process. The final CAD design is smaller and sleeker than the working prototype.

The money we raise from your contribution will go to manufacturing and supplies required to produce our case. As in any manufacturing process, there is a minimum order for production runs. Due to needing our aluminum spines casted, we have to purchase custom made cast molds. Also, the FSC Certified bamboo plywood (plyboo) is the highest quality bamboo plywood on the market. Your backing will help us purchase supplies needed along with the labor needed to create our cases.
