Update #9: Thank you
As you know, this project did not reach its goal and has been cancelled by Kickstarter. However, you can still help fund it by making a donation through PayPal by going to my blog, Pocket Parks of NYC (http://PocketParksNYC.blogspot.com). Some of my backers have already done this and I really appreciate their support. The blog is also where I will post updates as the project progresses and where you can post your favorite pocket parks, community gardens or urban plazas.
This is a major undertaking, so any and all leads are greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your support.

Update #8: Thank you to everyone!
Placing this project on Kickstarter.com has been an interesting undertaking. Thank you to everyone who pledged and spread the word on my behalf. Unfortunately, your pledges will be null and void 24 hours from now. If a project goal is not reached by the deadline, funds are not debited from the backer's account and the project goes away.
Never fear, however. My project is not actually going away. I have setup a blog with a donation button so I can still fund the project, or at least the beginning of the project. If you think Pocket Parks of NYC is still a great project, or if you simply want to follow its progress, go to http://PocketParksNYC.blogspot.com and click on the donate button or sign up for updates.
Again, thank you for your support and thanks to Kickstarter.com for giving me the opportunity to build a little buzz.

Update #7: Pocket Parks of NYC will continue!
No one has ever created a book about pocket parks. Be an innovator and help me be the first person to locate them all, discover their history, and publish them in a guide to help you find them. After the book is successfully published, I plan on creating an app for smartphones as well as a website to make it even easier for you to find a place to rest while walking around Manhattan.
In the meantime, follow my blog, Pocket Parks of NYC, and live vicariously through my travels around NYC!
Remember - there are still 6 days left, so tell your friends!
Thanks, as always, for your support.

Update #6: Tell your friends before the deadline.
Reasons I am writing a book on pocket parks:
... I’ve always loved them,
... no one else has written a book like this,
... their history deserves to be told because each one is unique
... it would be great to know where the next one is if you want to sit for a moment while in the city
... the book will be developed into an app and a website to make them even easier to locate
Reasons you should help me fund this by the August 1st deadline:
... It’s a cool idea and you think so, too.
Deadline 7 days away
Only 7 days to go or the Kickstarter funding is cancelled. All pledges will become null and void. I will still move forward with the project, but it will take a bit longer.
Donate a couple of bucks, tweet the link or post on your Facebook account. The deadline is 7 days away. If you know a business who would benefit from my book, tell them about me. I would love to work out some publicity for them when the book comes out or while I am writing and researching it.
How to send around:
Tweet the link:

Send the blog url:
http://pocketparksnyc.blogspot.com/
You never know who might be inclined to pledge, so please send around if you feel you can. Thank you for your support.

Update #5: Deadline approacheth. Tell thy friends!
I just tweeted that 66 pledges of $15 each would get me to my goal in time. Can you blast and retweet this to everyone you know? I am exploring having NYC school children making my project THEIR project by giving them community service hours, speaking to their school, even teaching them about writing.
I've approached the school district and they haven't laughed ... yet. No response, but I don't hear any laughter.
I am also planning on making this an app for smartphones and perhaps moving the entire book to Kindles and Nooks to start. An ebook is less expensive and can then be published in print later on.
Regardless, I need your pledges and your friends' pledges and your great Uncle Henry's pledges to continue, so spread the word. Help me locate and write about every pocket park, every urban plaza and every community garden in New York City. After NYC, who knows? These babies are EVERYWHERE!
Thank you for your support.

My dream is to see "Pocket Parks in NYC" in every tourist's backpack and on every local's bookshelf. If I ever see that, I know I'll cry right there on the spot.
