Designer journals by Wrapped! With Kickstarter funding we'll be able to manufacture really great journals right here in the USA.
Six months ago my friend Sam and I started a small design company called Wrapped out of the back of my father's studio. Our idea was to produce high-end, art-inspired wrapping paper. We began with a few designs based on my father’s paint splattered worktables and images from his studio and produced our first collection called Venice. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we began, but the incredible feedback and support from our friends, family, and customers has given us the courage to continue growing and creating a body of work we can be proud of.
What started with one really great idea--that we can make a product that's truly unique and different--has now become an obsession, and we're committed to bringing our same creative process and dedication to a whole world of new products.
We've received a ton of positive feedback about our project! We just want to say that it's really gratifying to see that people still appreciate analog design in a digital age. When we decided to make art inspired journals, a lot of people told us the idea was obsolete. The general consensus was that we live in a digital world now; no one puts pen to paper. We don't believe that. No matter how far we evolve technologically, we will always value the beauty of the handmade object. It's really great to see that there are other people out there that share our belief.
Thank you so much for supporting us!
--Ry and Sam
We built the Wrapped journals by hand, one book at a time. Before we laid anything out in a computer, we created 50 prototypes, cut and pasted from just about every printed image we had around (if you're interested, let us know and we'll happily post some of the other prototypes). We mixed and matched artwork until we came up with the perfect combination of interior/exterior pairings. Then we photographed the prototypes and prepared the source images in graphic design software for production.
We are obsessed with perfection. Whenever we print our wrapping paper, we drive out to the print shop so we can personally color check all the designs as they come off the presses. We will bring the same dedication to the manufacture of our journals, to ensure they match the beauty and feel of our original, handmade prototypes.
We wanted to design journals worthy of the dreams and inspirations that you are going to fill them with. And with your help, we can make Wrapped journals a reality.
All journals will measure 5 x 8.25 inches.
Each of our eight designs includes interior and exterior artwork, printed using a four color lithographic process.
All journals will have 240 pages of acid-free paper, in both lined and unlined versions, and will include a placeholder ribbon.
Binding is key to any journal. We chose a library quality, Smyth sewn hard cover binding with cold flexible glue which allows the journal to lay flat when open, and means the pages won't fall out (which we think is kind of important). This is the most durable method of binding out there. We designed these journals to be used every day, so we made sure that the function would live up to form.
We took a different approach with this section. Kickstarter gave us the freedom to offer amazing products we could never afford to mass produce. We will be posting updates with videos and pics of the special rewards. Everything we create has an incredible level of detail and craftsmanship, which unfortunately doesn't come across on a computer display quite like it does in person, but trust us, they're amazing.
Custom Wrapped Designs from our Studio Printer
These are made on our studio printer using archival, pigmented ink on a heavy, enhanced matte paper, lending beautiful detail and color to a print that will last over 100 years. You may choose any image in our inventory for these custom prints. They are available in two sizes, 24"x36" and 44"x66".
Charles Arnoldi Limited Edition Journals
In addition to our first eight designs, we're going to make a special, small run of Charles Arnoldi journals. We're offering 200 of these, signed and hand numbered by Chuck, in the order that your contribution is made. These will never be produced again and we are unable to reserve them ahead of time.
Mounted Wrapped Design Artworks
These are professionally mounted Wrapped images. Printed with archival pigmented ink on glossy paper, mounted on aluminum or and faced with a quarter inch of acrylic with polished edges. These are extremely time consuming and expensive to produce, therefore we can only offer six designs, selected specifically for this style of mounting (click here for a catalog). They are available in three sizes, 12"x18", 24"x36" and 44"x66" and each will be signed and numbered.
200 sq. ft. BLIK decal
We collaborated with BLIK to produce a 10' x 20' custom adhesive decal. This is an amazingly intricate & detailed image and is one of the coolest things we've ever seen. We shot our entire studio floor in 24 high-resolution images and then meticulously stitched them together to create this incredible design (click here to see the full image). You can see every drop of paint, every crack and stain in the concrete--we guarantee you'll find something new every time you look at it. This is perfect for the wall or floor (or ceiling!) of an office or design studio and is a truly extraordinary piece. Comes in 5 strips, measuring 4' x 10' each. Best of all, if you are in California, we will come to your place and help you install the decal.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have a printer and binder that have already scheduled press time for manufacturing. We will personally go to the printer and color check each and every design. We're aware that most design projects do not deliver on time but we take our delivery date very seriously and understand that many people will order these for Christmas. We've left ourselves enough time to deal with unforeseen complications and still meet our promised December delivery date.
To help us do that we would like to compile surveys during the project. We will send you a catalog and a survey as soon as we meet our goal to ensure that we have the correct shipping information and that we are meeting your expectations.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
