Victorian horror/crime GRAPHIC NOVEL with new, horrifying vision of JACK THE RIPPER! Watch the production, get original art, and a copy of the book.
"The characters are well rounded and the plot and action thunders along with a brooding sense of menace." -Mike Perkins (Marvel Comics Illustrator- STEPHEN KING’S THE STAND, CAPTAIN AMERICA)
Hello! I’m Wolfgang Parker. For the last five years I have been developing and writing the Victorian horror graphic novel 1888. Along with my creative team, John Amor (Illustrator/Co-Creator- Zuda Comics PLUCK), Homeros Gilani (Colorist), Jason Hanley (Letterer- FRANK FRAZETTA’S DARK KINGDOM, WORMWOOD: GENTLEMAN CORPSE), and Dan Verkys (Cover Artist), I have labored in creating the horror story I have always wanted to read but have failed to find.
1888 is a horror/crime story that begins in Victorian London during the infamous “Autumn of Terror,” when eight women were savagely butchered in the streets of the East End. The killer was never caught, and to this day, is only known by the grim trade name given to him by the press: Jack the Ripper.
Metaphysician, Deklin Skurlock is called in by Metro Police to assist in the case but he finds more than violent murders. Soon, he is caught in the cross-fire of a supernatural gang war where men kill by the power their faith grants them, only to find he has no faith of his own.
"Wolfgang Parker's 1888 is a truly unique read and one I recommend checking out." –Steve Niles (Writer/Creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, SIMON DARK, and CRIMINAL MACABRE, Writer for BATMAN: GOTHAM COUNTY LINE and BATMAN: GOTHAM AFTER MIDNIGHT)
My team and I are professional artists with an understanding of the comic book market and we have all found a project worthy of sacrifice and labor in 1888. Especially considering the rates to create a professional comic book start at about $250.00 a page, and we will be producing them for much less.
Nevertheless, we are confident the time is right for 1888 to take its share of the marketplace among the recent “Victorian Invasion” of successful comic titles like DEAD IRONS (Dynamite), VICTORIAN UNDEAD (Marvel), SHERLOCK HOLMES (Boom Studios), POE (Boom Studios), and WITCHFINDER (Dark Horse). Not to mention 2009’s SHERLOCK HOLMES motion picture that grossed nearly $500 million worldwide.
The Industry editors, artists, and writers that have been impressed with the pitch preview of 1888 have only bolstered our confidence in the project. But in order to take advantage of the Industry momentum, we need to produce the actual book.
So, we are asking the Kickstarter community to get involved in the production. All of the money that we raise here will go toward the production of the graphic novel.
During the roughly twelve-month production time, I will be posting monthly video updates on the production and giving insight into the process of creation. For those who would like to get into the comic book industry, this is a great opportunity to gain real-world insight into the business. For those who are just curious about the work that goes into the writing a novel and producing a comic book, this is a rare opportunity to watch that process unfold.
