Update #42: We are the #1 most popular short video on PFFC!
We are currently the #1 most popular short video on the Possible Futures Film Contest! Thank you all of you who have watched it and voted! We need to keep the momentum up (as everyone will have their sights on us), so please vote if you haven't (and please spread the word!)
Update #41: Within Reach Movie Update - Getting Close! Need Your Vote...
Hello to our wonderfully supportive community on Kickstarter!
We have had some new developments with the film editing, and have chosen to add new artists and give this film a chance for an actual theatrical run and hopefully some festival awards this fall, hence the delay getting you the final feature film. We know you'll be happy we took the extra time to really make this film GREAT so you feel proud to show it to your friends and family, kids' schools and more!
NOW...WE NEED YOUR VOTE!
Other exciting news - we are currently in the running for several film awards in the Possible Futures Film Contest. Please visit this page and click the big red VOTE button. It only takes a couple seconds to register. While you're at it, "like" the video on facebook and repost to your twitter, facebook, email, etc. and hopefully the video will be a big winner!
Thanks to all for your ongoing belief in the mission of this project.

No offense, but most of us haven't gotten to see the film yet. Wouldn't it be a little irresponsible of us to vote for a film that we haven't even seen?

Naomi,
Thanks for your clarifying question. The film competition is for the short film we showed on the Kickstarter campaign. We have not yet finished post production on the feature film. So, you'd be voting for the short film, which you can watch again on the Possible Futures page if you'd like.We are officially premiering the film September 17 in Berkeley CA and are only a few days away from making this announcement widely! Thanks again for your support.

Update #40: Within Reach Movie is still under construction!
We realize that we hoped to get the movie done and out to you all on Earth Day this year. As that has now come and gone, we are realizing that we need to keep you all informed of the progress now. (movies take a lot longer than anticipated we are learning!)
We have set May 21 as a date to do a "pre-release screening" at the FIC art of Community event in Chicago. Please come if you can and you can give us feedback on the progress so far. We hope to be done with our final cut by June 3.
The most important thing to tell you though is that we are making decisions to keep the quality of the movie at the highest standard while trying to balance the importance of getting the movie done in a timely manner. We do realize you and the world need this movie done, and we know you want your kickstarter rewards fulfilled sooner than later.
And believe me we want this movie done sooner than later too as then we can move on to other things like delving deeper into building sustainable community!
We remain committed to doing the best job possible with the charge we have been called with to finish this movie soon.
In the mean time please check out the art of community page here and try to come on May 21 to Chicago if you can!
Love and Light,
The Within Reach Team

Update #39: Post-Hibernation...We're Back in Action!
Greetings to all the amazing supporters and followers of Within Reach Movie!
We decided to take some time to "hibernate" a little after the 38+ days we spent focusing on this Kickstarter campaign. Ryan has been editing away in a private retreat cabin that was offered for cost of utilities only! Derek is soon to join him, and then the film will go to Doctrine Studios in Kissimmee FL for sound correction, color correction, animation, titles, credits, etc.
We're working out details for the World Premiere event on Earth Day weekend, so keep your eyes out for that. We would like to get back to communicating with you via eNewsletters and Facebook, so please take a moment to visit these two pages to sign up to stay connected:
http://www.withinreachmovie.com/WR/Contact.html
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Within-Reach-Movie/102091113638
Also, you've probably received a survey from us via Kickstarter, so we can begin to gather your information to fulfill your rewards and send your tax-deductible non-profit donation receipt. Please send that information back to us as soon as you have a moment.
Our team and community continues to be blown away by the generosity and love shown to us throughout the Kickstarter campaign, and truly, throughout the entire journey. We hope that the offering of the film and our time and energy feels good to you, and we hope to see you sooner than later! We're also still open for ideas as to what other information or sharings you'd like to see come out of this project - books? educational materials? etc. Lastly, we will send out information about hosting a screening of the film/discussion group in your area within the next couple of months.
Peace,
Mandy, Ryan and the Within Reach Creative Team

Ryan and Mandy have known each for over 10 years. They met in 1999 on a college travel abroad trip to Central America to study and do service work with sustainable community development organizations in the third world. After 8 years apart, they re-united in 2007, fell in love and embarked on a journey to transition their lives into sustainable community. This movie documents that story as well as what they learned along the way. Their story is all of our story.
Ryan is a professional photographer who attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and was trained by award winning photographer Rachel Balunsat. This professional photography eye and background has greatly influenced his style of cinematography. He also has over 15 years of experience in environmental advocacy work.
Mandy is a trained non-profit fundraising expert who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and coordinated thousands of volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. She has a knack for producing and networking and her background and passion has helped Within Reach raise the money it has.
