I just got around to looking at the clips. So beautiful! So thrilling to hear the comments of the Native Americans working on the film. Only one thing: my heart sank when I saw that sunset. Homesickness set in for a place I'd never been to until way up into my life. Thank you, Alex and Andrew, I'm happy to be a part of this and sent the blog to Colin. B

Congrats! Just wanted to make a comment... I first heard about this project when Indian Country Today retweeted someone else mention it. When I saw the title, I got excited that someone was finally bringing James Welch to the screen...but as usual, immediately wanted to know whether this was going to be a Native-made film...or not. I admit I didn't immediately recognize Alex and Andrew's names, but when I saw that Sherman Alexie and Gary Farmer were both involved I figured that meant their script, at least, had to be good! But it wasn't until yesterday that I read the Q&A with the Smiths in the ICT print mag (which came 2+ wks late--otherwise I'd have searched this out sooner) and learned that they had a personal relationship with James Welch, and that his wife had fully blessed the project. To me, that's huge--it immediately told me that the story is in totally trustworthy hands, and made me more excited about the project. Anyway, all this to say, I was really surprised that this detail wasn't mentioned here or on the film website. I know it might not matter so much to many in the general audience, but it's a big deal, I would think, to anyone who cares about Native film and films about Indians in general, all things considered. I figure that maybe it wasn't mentioned out of a desire to not appear to be bragging about the relationship or something, but I think there are plenty of people for whom it really matters. So please, brag away! It will make a big difference to some of your audience. And thank you for caring about the story so much.

Congratulations! You guys really worked hard for this, and you SO deserve it! Wish i could have done more... but there was no film work last year, so things were really tight!

I've been checking this every day for the last week. So glad to see the rising number of "percent funded" hit 3 digits. Congrats to the project and other backers!

We want to (and will!) thank each and everyone of you for joining us on this journey. It means the world to us! And will allow us to shoot this puppy in August! What a perfect independence day for our 100% independent movie!
We still have 34 hours to BLAST past the goal-- and the more we make, the more days we have to shoot. And the more days we have to shoot, the better the film!

For Alex Smith I gladly contribute a couple pfennigs, if nothing else than for an insightful lecture on Vladimir Propp that he gave in a screenwriting class years ago. If that same insight is present in the tale of Winter In The Blood, and from the synopsis I suspect it is, then this should be a visceral yet timeless tale. God knows with the noise and pallor of Michael Bay fireworks this July 4th weekend, we could all use a healthy dose of Native Americana.
Creator Elizabeth Kay on July 3, 2011
so close....well done everyone! I can't wait to see this book come to life - both for the characters and the scenery.
Creator Kathy Kirkaldie on June 29, 2011
I'd encourage every backer, if this project comes in short (which I'm hoping IT WON"T), to get on the WITB website and make a direct donation to the project in the same amount that you had pledged at Kickstarter. That will cut the 5%-odd overhead as well...
Creator Tom & Karen Trojnar on June 26, 2011

Hopefully we can make it to Bear Paw again this year for the Chief Joseph Commemoration and maybe see you guys if you're around! So I got an email from y'all stating that you weren't gonna have the hawk sign the poster because he wasn't trained to. I just had to say that I am an animal trainer and have taught dogs and horses to sign their mark. If you get me the hawk I can teach it to make it's mark. Just offering my services... Very proud to be a part of making this film work.
