About this project

What we're doing:
There are a lot of books out there to teach you how to fundraise, but there are no video games that teach you how to fundraise. Inspired by Legend of Zelda, Midnight Rescue, and Myst, we are creating a game to help you learn how to raise money fast!

Set in the mythical city of Portland, Oregon, Adventures in Fundraising puts you in the nonprofit fundraising hot seat! Your nonprofit need you to raise money fast or else they will fold. It's an incredible crisis! But you can do it.

This game will teach you how to fundraise in an engaging, enjoyable way to help empower you and the next generation of leaders to lead nonprofits and SAVE THE WORLD!

In the first part of the game, you learn how to help your nonprofit get money through writing beautiful letters and gorgeous grants.

During the second part of the game, you learn how to throw a fabulous party to raise money for your nonprofit.

In the final part of the game, you learn how to ask for money in person, and there's a secret ending that I think you'll really like.

It's up to you to carry out all of the tasks required to pull off these increasingly challenging fundraising jobs, but you won't be doing it alone! You'll have help from the FairyGodMonster, your Bookshelf, and other NPCs (Non-Player Characters).

How we plan to do it:
Mazarine Treyz has developed the story, and is in charge of all visual assets.

Steve Havelka is in charge of development and makes good use of open source game technology.

Together we'll make the audio assets, the demo and full versions, the strategy guide and manual.

What the money is for
The money is to pay for marketing, packaging and distributing the game, and to pay us a small stipend for doing the work.

We plan on getting the word out through having a presence at the Willamette Valley Development Officers Conference, at the Association for Fundraising Professionals Conference, and in google ads and on our website.

We plan on hiring a graphic designer to do packaging design for the game.

Imagine it, every time a board member comes on, or a new volunteer, they can play the fundraising game, and then they can learn how to create a bulk mailing for an appeal letter, how to research or write a grant, how to ask for a major gift, and help the nonprofit right away!

This is tremendously exciting for us to make and we hope you can join us in making something that will help all of the nonprofits in America learn how to get money quickly and effectively for their much needed programs. You can change the world. You can fund this game.

Hi! I am a fundraiser with 7 years of experience, and I'm passionate about helping people solve the world's problems.

So I'm making a lo-fi pixel art game to help teach people how to fundraise.

It will have novice, intermediate and advanced levels, and will teach people how to throw events, get grants, write appeal letters, ask for money in person, and more!

I've also written a book about fundraising, called the Wild Woman's Guide to Fundraising, and my blog is http://wildwomanfundraising.com
