About this project
North Country is the eighth evening length work from choreographer Marisa Gruneberg and her Brooklyn-based company, white road Dance Media. A quartet with an original score by pianist and composer Justin Sherburn (Okkervil River), North Country examines our collective home environment in flux. Utilizing intricately patterned movement, dynamic duet forms, and stark, open staging, the piece investigates our changing concept of home, and where within this change we choose to exist.
We're raising funds for North Country for two reasons: One, to transport the piece to Austin TX in October of 2011, and two, to expand the project further in a few ways!
Austin or bust! We'll be in residence at the Carver Center in Austin TX for two weeks, during which time we'll perform North Country and a restaging of 2010's Deer, To Me. We'll also work with local high-schoolers on a site specific piece to be performed outdoors, free for audiences! While we're in Austin, the dancers will need housing and meals, as well as transportation around town; we'll also need to get from NYC to Austin. All of these touring basics require considerable funding.
To expand and deepen the work, we will be fine tuning Justin's original score to prepare it for live performance and collaborating with a new media artist to build an interactive online component of North Country. Musician fees, website fees, rehearsal costs- these are the specifics of what funds will go towards once they are raised.
We're so very excited to bring this multi-faceted project to life. Thank you so much for checking out our info, and we'll be updating you on our progress soon!
