Night Thing is white road Dance Media's first foray into the exciting world of filmmaking! With your support, we aim to turn our live dance show into a full-length film, utilizing the same driving concept, dynamic score and outstanding performers as the live performance. While keeping the integrity of the original concept, choreography and character narratives intact, we hope to deepen and further Night Thing with film as the vehicle for exploration and performance. 

Night Thing began as an evening length dance piece for seven performers, each with his or her own unique role. The piece revolves around a star, Violet, and as it progresses, develops into a non-linear set of scenes. Once the deeply colored images begin to swirl in the landscapes onstage, so do the many questions a viewer might have: Who are these people, and what are their desires? What do the others want from each other? What do they see in the Star? Is the Star's world a reality, or an illusion? Is her eventual demise fact or fiction? It's a quickly moving, pulsating puzzle with no discernible beginning and no true end, open to the viewer's need to either create a storyline or simply absorb the whole picture. 

So after a successful live performance, why make a film? Well, from the very beginning of our process together, Night Thing seemed to have an intrinsically cinematic quality. Glimpses of film noir, moments inspired by classic Hollywood, the sheer longing to be... all of these things now seem ready for a screen rather than a stage. Your support will help make these silver screen dreams a reality for us. Funding will go to film equipment, specifically an HD camera; to collaborators and assistants that will assist in on-location setup, directing and editing; and to production and distribution costs. We ultimately hope to screen Night Thing the film at next year's SXSW Film Festival in Austin TX.
