"WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO TEACH? ... AND HOW?"

Hello, we are the Traveling Class. When we asked our students what their favorite ways to learn a new language were, they indicated that they preferred to listen to music, watch movies/TV and interact with other people. So, we developed "The Student Teacher Show," an interactive reality show in which language and cultural lessons are shared through songs and conversation. Music, storytelling, worldwide connections and learning: it's like karaoke meets Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? meets Rosetta Stone! 

Best of all, our show will be FREE and broadcast around the world on-line! Please take a moment to watch the above video for an example of some of the many ways to share languages through music and storytelling.

In order to produce and launch Season 1 of The Student Teacher Show, "LOVE LANGUAGE," we must raise at least $12,000 before August 15, 2012. As we are currently based in Washington, DC and Salvador, Brazil, our deadline is mid-August so that we can produce and release "Love Language" before Brazil hosts a series of three major world sporting events: the Confederations Cup in 2013, the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016.

As fundraising on KickStarter is all-or-nothing, we identified $12,000 as the absolute minimum amount that we need in order to launch Season 1 of The Student Teacher Show. We can't fall short of our goal, but we can exceed it! 

WHEN?

The Traveling Class plans to launch four seasons of The Student Teacher Show as a fun and effective way to share languages and cultures around the world in preparation for the aforementioned, major sporting events. Each season of the show will consist of 12 episodes of about 20 minutes each.

• Season 1 - LOVE LANGUAGE - September-December 2012 (in order to launch before 2013 Confederations Cup)
• Season 2 - ÁGUAS (WATERS) - January-June 2013
• Season 3 - Theme chosen by...YOU? - July-December 2013
• Season 4 - Theme chosen by...YOU? - January-May 2014
• The 2014 World Cup - June 12-July 13, 2014

WHERE?

The Student Teacher Show will air each week on the Traveling Class website. Viewers can become the stars of the show by submitting their questions, song requests, stories and challenges that determine the show's outcomes and featured musical content.

Aside from our on-line show, The Student Teacher Show is the latest addition to the Traveling Class experience taking place in classrooms around Brazil, the USA and beyond. Students participating in in-person classes held by the Traveling Class will be directly engaged in the latest adventures of The Student Teacher Show and have the opportunity to submit their input, as well.

By including the interests of all parties involved, interactivity is key to making the learning process as fun and effective as possible.

MONEY WELL SPENT

Season 1 will consist of 12 web episodes of approximately 20 minutes each. Each episode will feature at least three all-original songs by the Traveling Class. Here is the breakdown of our costs:

• Studio recording of original music (approx. $100 per song x 36 songs = $3,600)
• Canon 5D Mark II Camera & equipment ($3,200)
• Purchase of Final Cut Pro X video-editing software ($300)
• Travel & visa costs (Luan Gauge, USA -> Brazil roundtrip) ($1,700)
• CD and DVD packaging costs ($800)
• Poster and promotional material printing ($400)
• Website development related to The Student Teacher Show ($500)
• Shipping costs to deliver the great rewards that we have for you! ($500)
• Miscellaneous costs, such as artistic collaborations, copyright registration, transportation in-city and incidentals during six months of production, editing and distribution ($1,000)
• GRAND TOTAL: $12,000

WHY WE ARE QUALIFIED

The Traveling Class is a collective of certified teachers, qualified interpreters and translators and professional musicians. We have been planning The Student Teacher Show for over a year-and-a-half as an effective way to teach languages in Brazil and around the world before the upcoming, international mega-events such as the World Cup (2014) and Summer Olympics (2016). The song featured here was written by Sousa Harmony and Luan Gauge and the video was directed and edited entirely by Luan Gauge.
