Update #6: We Like It Like That screening tomorrow at the White Rabbit Bar and Lounge in NYC
First and foremost, a huge thank you to everyone who donated to help make this film a reality! We would not be able to finish the documentary without your support. Keep on the lookout for updates from us regarding the progress of the film and the backer donation gifts. We are working hard to finish the film so that we can get you your gifts as soon as possible.
For those of you in NYC – we are screening the rough cut of
the film tomorrow night (Thursday 10/20)
at the White Rabbit Bar and Lounge
in the East Village at 10pm as part of DJ Tahleim
Reyes’ monthly MOFUNKO party. Come for
the film and stay for the party, with music DJ Tahleim Reyes and Osiris Terry from Blue Funk Orchestra on Percussion! The event will be Hosted by Daoud
Abeid, Danny Castro & Savior Elmundo aka Pinero. More info about MOFUNKO is below:
MOFUNKO (Plantain Funk)!
Mofunko (Mo-funk-o) A mix Afro-Caribbean Soul and Latin Funk
rhythms inspired by the sounds of Africa, the Caribbean Islands and the
Americas (South, Central and North). All mashed together in a Pilon to
introduce a rich and unique blend of Tropical grooves. Mofunko takes
you on a musical adventure and combines all of the best flavor that all
of these genres has to offer to make one tasteful and funky kind of
serving (be careful the plates are hot!).
Tools: Pilon (Wooden Masher)
Ingredients: Afro-Cuban, Guaguanco, Rumba, Mambo, Son, Guaracha, Salsa, Afro-Beat, Samba, Cumbia, Calypso, Latin Jazz, Plena, Bomba, Merengue, Compas, Bele, Gwo-ka, Boogaloo, Salsoul, Disco and a dash of House.

Update #5: We Like It Like That Screening in Brooklyn NYC
Come join us for the Brooklyn premiere of We Like It Like That - The Story of Latin Boogaloo on Thursday, September 29th at 8PM at Launchpad Creative Arts Space in Crown Heights Brooklyn.
Take the 2,3,4, 5 or S shuttle train to Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn.
The film is still a work in progress, and the screening is a fundraiser to help us finish the final version of the film. Donations are accepted but of course no one will be turned away for a lack of funds.
We will have drinks and snacks so grab a few friends and join us in our celebration of all things boogaloo!

Writer and filmmaker, Mathew Ramirez Warren is a native of New York City. He received an M.A. from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and has been a regular contributor to the New York Times and Wax Poetics Magazine. In 2007, he began exploring documentary filmmaking, and in addition to his work in print, he has produced numerous videos for NYTimes.com and WaxPoetics.com. Since beginning work on his upcoming feature length documentary on the Latin boogaloo era, "We Like It Like That," Mathew has come to be viewed as an expert in the field and has written the liner notes on several album re-issues for Fania Records. He continues to live in New York City and has established his own production company, Muddy Science.
