Hello PINE HILL Friends & Family!
It's been a while since we've seen you last. Have you lost weight? That tank top's lookin' good on you. (...Which is to say:) Thank you very much for your patience with and support of us while we take this show on the road! We wanted to drop a line to let you know that PINE HILL is indeed alive & well, and we're gearing up to finally send out all the project rewards you've been so kindly waiting to receive! Please see below for a slew of COOL news to get you through these dog days of summer:
***PINE HILL SCREENS @ FORT GREENE PARK THURSDAY, AUGUST 9th
Rooftop Films & the ActNow Foundation will present a FREE showing! DOORS @ 7:30 pm // SCREENING @ 8:30 pm. Keith will be there for a Q&A! Share the Event on Facebook
***BAM CINEMAFEST WAS SUPER COOL!
We SOLD OUT our NYC Festival Premiere screening so BAM kindly added a 2nd one by popular demand! We were the only film at the festival to do that! Shannon's family got to see the film for the first time, and he and Keith gave a really fantastic Q&A! THANK YOU SO MUCH to those of you who came out and made that day so special for all of us.
The screening garnered some truly wonderful press, like "moody and mesmerizing...deeply human" from Time Out New York's Keith Uhlich, a great WNYC Leonard Lopate interview with Keith, and this quote from the New York Times' A.O. Scott: "...motivated throughout by a humane and determined curiosity, an impulse to understand something about life that seems both obvious and mysterious. In other words, Welcome to Pine Hill...is a small film devoted to a very big idea." A.O. Scott! Saw our film! And liked it! FOR SERIOUS!

***WE WON A BUNCH OF COOL AWARDS!
Since last we posted a Kickstarter Update, PINE HILL has taken home the Grand Jury Prize at the Atlanta Film Festival and the Grand Jury/FIPRESCI Prize for Best New American Film at the Seattle International Film Festival. Shannon also received a Special Jury Prize for Performance at the Sarasota Film Festival and Keith got a Special Mention for Best New Director at Nashville Film Festival. AAAAND we had our International Festival Premiere in Munich (if you look real close here you can see "Shannon Harper ist ein ex-Drogendealer..."! Turns out this movie, like everything else, is even hipper in foreign countries.)

***WE'RE WORKING ON SOME COOL NEW PROJECTS!
Keith is about to go into production on a brand new feature called FIVE STAR, which follows two men as they face the challenges of inner city manhood. What this means for each is very different. For Primo, this means becoming a father and an honest man, while for Shan, the 15 year-old who recently joined the gang, it is less clear; he blames Primo for his father’s death and sees the gang and revenge as a path to manhood. Both Primo and Shan struggle with the consequences of gang life. As in WELCOME TO PINE HILL, the distinction between the reality off the screen and on is intentionally disregarded. One central case in point here is that Primo is the leader of the Bloods.
Elisabeth is also producing a new feature, OBVIOUS CHILD, starring former SNL cast mate Jenny Slate. Based on writer/director Gillian Robespierre's eponymous short film, in the two weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, aspiring comedian Donna Stern endures a lousy break-up, a one-night stand, an unplanned pregnancy, and an abortion; it’s a comedy. Actually.
If you want to learn more or get involved with either project, feel free to drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
LOTS OF LOVE!
