Fourth Production Update - Sewing has started, Announcement
Hey Backers-
These weeks are moving incredibly fast, and it’s great to see everything coming together.
Building on the momentum of last week’s first cut, sewing has now officially started! This is such a cool process to witness. Being deeply involved in the craft and creating something from scratch at the highest level is why we started GUSTIN. This is our obsession. We will always make you a part of this process.
Here are this week’s updates:
We received our pocket bag labels from LA. We didn’t show you this in images previously, but we use a custom woven label to identify all the cool details of each garment from fit to fabric.In this picture you can see the labels for the AMERICAN.
Yesterday, front panels were under way with the precise attachment of pocket bag labels to the front pocket facing. It’s a humble beginning, but each step counts to build to the perfect pair of jeans we’ll be sending you.
We rolled out the STANDARD and cut over 1300 pairs. You can see that this denim uses a broken twill weave which is pretty neat.
Connecting with backers
Do you remember Rob, the former Texas rancher from Update 8 ? He’s the one who said “There denim is considered not just clothing, but a tool.” We were in Boston this week, and had the opportunity to sit down and share a few tumblers of bourbon as the snowstorm came in. It was amazing to hear more of his history with selvage denim - before his ranch switched to selvage, they would have to get new pairs of jeans every other week.
Even more so, we loved hearing what he wants GUSTIN to be and it’s exactly what we’re doing. We relaunched the brand because no other company is creating top artisan quality garments at true wholesale prices all while forming real connections to the people who wear the brand. We love super high-quality menswear, but don’t want to spend $95 for a henley, $130 for a button-down, or $220 for a pair of selvage jeans. If you supported us here on Kickstarter, we bet you’re in the same boat. It feels like we’re onto something big, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.

Today we’re officially announcing that GUSTIN is returning to you on April 1. Get ready for a totally new high-end clothing experience. The same promise of premium menswear, crowdsourced and delivered to you at wholesale will continue. We’ll be releasing more details about the launch as we get closer on our Facebook page and our mailing list. This is going to be huge!

THE NATURAL INDIGO. Sanforized Japanese selvage denim, natural indigo plant dye, 13 oz weight. This unique denim comes from one of the most highly regarded mills in Japan and is no longer being run in production. Natural indigo plant dye is rarely used today and is quite pricey. The shade of this fabric is a lighter blue. We’ve used this denim before and it’s pretty sweet. Hand-numbered and signed. Same cut, same sizes, same uncompromising quality.
